Style Diaries: Welcome to La la land

Hello my sweet, sweet readers! I’m back posting and stronger than ever! Remember I told you about my American holiday? I spent one week in the wonderful city of Los Angeles, California and another week in the sinful Las Vegas, Nevada. First holiday with the boyfriend and also his first time visiting the US. There was a lot of sightseeing, lots of adventures, party nights, shopping and more. Heading out to LA was absolutely amazing! There is something about that city, the people, their lifestyles, it’s fabulous! So, I have prepared for you today some of the looks I put together for my lovely vacation. I hope you like them!

LOOK 1: Take me out to the ball game!

I’m a born yankee fan, I have been all my life. The kind of fan that cries when stepping into Yankee stadium. So anytime I find myself in a city where that has a baseball stadium, I am there. When I found out Dodgers were playing against Phillies, that was it. I bought my tickets two months in advance and got a pretty good deal for some great seats! For the game I wanted to look comfortable but chic. I am not a sneaker gal, I have never been. But in the name of baseball, everything is possible. I chose a vintage t-shirt from the Dodgers, v-neck and a little washed out. I found it at Urban Outfitters. I paired it with some cut-offs in pastel pink. I tucked the tee in a bit to flatter my waist. Striped canvas trainers in white and blue. And since the game starts when the sun is still out, it is important for you to wear sunscreen and put on a pair of sunglasses, my choice: aviators. This ones are from AX.

For accessories, a simple backpack like this one from ASOS and a cute watch in pink, this one from Glam Rock in ceramic is to die for! For beauty, lip gloss with SPF, Clinique’s Long Last Glosswear in Bamboo Pink. Play ball!

LOOK 2: Big City Lights

There’s nothing I enjoy more than drinks after dinner! If LA has one thing to offer is its nightlife. But what I loved the most was to discover that our hotel, The Standard, had a rooftop pool that turned into a bar at night. So sipping Mojitos and Vodka Tonics while gazing at the goregous view of Downtown LA became one of our favorite activities. Here’s what I wore one night: A silk olive tank from Zara tucked inside my high waisted mini in strawberry, also from Zara (I also have it in green and floral). I cinched it with a braided belt in Salmon from H&M. I am obsessed with this combination, strawberry-salmon-olive, the perfect trifecta. For shoes, I wore a pair of my favorite babies, Steve Madden’s Karmenaf, floral pumps in white.

For accessories, an olive clutch with fringes, cute, cute as a button. For jewelry, a belted bracelet form Marc by Marc Jacobs, also in strawberry. Yeah I know, call me Miss Match. A white ring, this is from Disney Couture (I love their line).  For the final touch, Essie’s Need a Vacation to add on more sweetness to it!

LOOK 3: Sky High Sushi Dinner

The day after a night out in town partying, the right thing to do is a cute dinner in a nice restaurant and then some room service Cheescake. One night we went to Takami Restaurant, on the 21st floor of a building located in Downtown LA. The view is stunning and the food is to die for! Rock shrimp, tuna tartare, Spicy Tuna and more… We ordered like 7 or 8 plates. For this night, I went for a more casual look. A pantsuit from Zara. I got it on sale and when I tried it on I wasn’t that sure it was going to flatter my figure. Well, it did! To play with the styling a bit, I added a navy blue belt with a golden buckle (same color of the garment). For shoes, my tan t-strap platform sandals. This ones are from ASOS. This shoe style is so resourceful! I need to buy another pair, they are wearing out on me!

For accessories, a green envelope clutch (this one is from ASOS) and a chain, gold bangle. For the nails, I got this nail polish at Walgreen’s. It was on sale and it is the cutest shade of lilac, from Revlon, Lilac Pastelle.

So there you have it, three days, three looks! Check back tomorrow for the second part of my trip! Fashion Week is almost here, are you ready?

Sweet kisses…

The September Issue Brief: VOGUE

Yup, I made my own cover, and I’m wearing fabulous Haider Ackermann

Hello sweet readers! I won’t blame you if you are somewhat pissed at me for not posting for a while. But I am back with loads of new material to share with you. And since Fashion Week is just around the corner, we are all getting pretty excited here! September is not only about S/S runways, it’s also about those glossy, chunky and monthly fashion bibles, commonly known as magazines. Every September they dedicate countless pages to the biggest trends of the coming season: What to wear, how to wear it, how to pair it, what to buy, and more! Lots and lots of pages, filled with lots and lots of fashion. J’adore! So let’s see what Vogue has in store for us this month!

Cover girl: Kate Moss

She is wearing: Alexander McQueen A/W 2011 (modified dress)

Photographer: Mario Testino

What we thought: Definitely one of our favorites! Kate Moss was the right person to grace the cover of such an important issue. Not only because of her fabulous wedding and her stunning self, but also because when it comes to fashion, she is the queen of all models. Shot by Mario Testino, the spread is as expected, elegant and romantic but with Kate written all over it.

Cover girl: Freja Beha Erichsen

She is wearing: Dolce & Gabbana

Photographer: Mario Testino

What we thought: Everybody loves Freja, and it is more than obvious that everybody loves Mr. Testino. This choice was an unexpected surprise, but a good one. There is something about this girl, she is intoxicating, intriguing. Even for those who don’t now who she is, you can’t help but stare, open the mag, and look for her spread. Add some sequins to the mix, she is a seller! Plus, this girl is already part of Fashion’s history, she will be timeless, just like Kate.

Cover girl: Charlotte Casiraghi

She is wearing: Close-up, inside the magazine: Gucci, Balmain…

Photographer: Mario Testino

What we thought: I have to confess something, I am literally drooling over this cover. Some might say Emanuelle Alt’s choice was boring and might not like the close-up. I say it’s mind-blowing. We can forget about the royalty thing, she is just stunning, has an incredible sense of fashion and elegance, runs her own fashion magazine, one of the Kaiser’s favorite girls and Gucci’s pampered one. And she has Grace Kelly’s glamour. Does this girl deserve a Vogue cover? She certainly does. Was it a bold choice? For sure, but also a winner one! And she is close-up material, I bet even her pores are gorgeous.

Cover girl: Karolina Kurkova

She is wearing: Giorgio Armani

Photographers: Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin

What we thought: This is fun, and different. So different that Karolina can barely be recognized. You can call it wild, you can call it funky, but the result is divine. She was photographed by a duo that is so happening right now, the talented Inez & Vinoodh. Wearing an A/W 2011 t-shirt with the face of a younger Giorgio Armani, Karolina has got it going on!

Click here to read more about it.

Cover girl: Natasha Poly

She is wearing: Inside Prada, Céline, DKNY, D&G, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière, Burberry Prorsum

Photographer: Hedi Slimane

What we think: The cover is very russian, very sexy, and very blonde. Also a bit boring. It’s nothing new, but Natasha’s beauty and sensuality make up for the lack of novelty. Inside we can see Poly channeling a mod chick, and rocking those prada boots like no one else.

Click here to read more about it.

Cover girls: Eva Herzigova, Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christensen

They are wearing: Dolce & Gabbana

Photographer: Tom Munro

What we thought: The styling was great and was done by Domenico and Stefano. I’m kind of growing to love those stars even if at first I didn’t like them that much. But allow me to be blunt, three women like Claudia, Eva and Helena (a personal favorite) should be able to make paper burn just by looking at it. This women do not need stars to sizzle, they already make it happen on their own. This cover does not do any justice to them, Helena doesn’t look as fab as she usually is, Claudia looks mean and Eva, well Eva takes the shot. I was expecting more from it.

VEREDICT: Royalty takes the cake, no cover can measure up to Charlotte’s!

I hope you liked it folks! Be sure to check back for some new posts. My oven is full!

Sweet kisses…

Dear sweet readers, time flies and summer is almost over! This is the last one of my Summer Getaway Series. You have already visited New York with Anita, the City Blonde. You have partied in Vegas with Jaime, the Party Princess. You also have seen the good St. Tropez life with Army, the Jet-set Junkie. Now it’s time for me, Sophie, Sweet’n’Raw’s creator and also a hopeless romantic. I was born mexican but I consider myself a little italian by choice. And since I have been living in that beautiful country for three years now and my soft spot for it keeps growing and growing, my choice for favorite vacation spot had to be the gorgeous Tuscany. So if you enjoy a glass (or bottle) of Prosecco and breathtaking views, candlelit dinners and romantic strolls, you are reading the right lines! Italy definitely has its charm, but Tuscany has the magic. So if you are planning one last summer escape surrounded by beautiful views, gelato and piazzas, Tuscany is the right place for you!

Live your tuscan experience in these two amazing outfits I have prepared for you today!

Spending some August days under the Tuscan sun calls for some beautiful and summery outfits. Flowy sundresses, flirty skirts, cute shorts and sunny tops should definitely be on the top of your packing list. A girl’s gotta beat the heat, but always in style. I chose a pair of tailored shorts in navy blue and polka dots. High waisted and very flattering for your shape, the shorts can be paired up with a cropped and silky top for a flirty and PG rated Lolita look. Green and navy is always a very powerful combo when it comes to matching colors. For the shoes, to keep on with Mr. Nabokov’s girl, a pair of vintage looking, bicolor Keds in cream and blush. You’ll need some comfortable shoes for all that walking, and sneakers do not get cuter than this!

For accessories, I chose the Mulberry Alexa Oversized bag, which will be very resourceful for your trip. Since it’s a bit far, you might want to take just one day handbag that works with all of your outfits. Tan goes with just about everything (I have an obsession with that color). A simple bangle, like this one from House of Harlow and this amazing sunglasses I fount at net-a-porter from Oliver Peoples (I just came back from a shopping trip, but I am already thinking about placing an order to get a pair of this babies).

For beauty, wear lipgloss with SPF, like this one from Philosophy. And remeber, always wear sunscreen!

Definitely one of my favorite looks so far. This perfectly represents my personal style. It’s sweet and perfect for a dinner date in a beautiful city in Tuscany. I paired up a short, tulle mini skirt in bright pink from TOPSHOP with a sheer, pastel coral top with a waist ruffle (big trend for fall) from ASOS. The front has beautiful baroque embroidery in white so be sure to wear a nude bra underneath so you don’t take away the attention from the top’s details. Cinch it with a metallic and detailed golden belt. Make sure it is very thin, you want to enhace your waistline, not create a distraction. For the shoes, I fell in love when I saw them online, and they are perfect for this ensemble. From, this precious pair of teal and gold platform heels are just the cherry on the cake.

For accessories, a coral pink shoulder bag with a golden chain and two YSL rings, the coveted ARTY ring and the FAKE CHIC crystal ring.

For beauty, an updo is the way to go. And give your nails some pink as well! This gorgeous shade is ESSIE’s Mob Square.

There you have it! Two looks to wander around la mia bellissima Italia!

Sweet kisses…

Hello my sweet readers! I know it’s been a while since I published my last post, awful hotel wireless connections are to blame (I’m having a blast in the US by the way). I am writing to you from the gorgeous and deliciously sinful city of Las Vegas. This post has been sitting in the oven for a while now, waiting to be published. And what better place to do it, than from Vegas. Remember I told you about my little sister before? If you don’t, click here to learn a little about her. Jaime, the life of the party. The chick everyone wants to hang out with. She is not the girl you see with the flip flops and her Margarita Yard walking the Vegas Strip. She does clubbing with style, she knows the right people and doesn’t wait in lines. Afternoon breakfast and bedtime at sunrise. She shops and she parties, she shops and she parties.

So here for you, two party looks, to get the clubbin’ going on! Vegas baby, what else is there to do?

Very glamorous, very Vegas! Perfect for a lavish dinner in town followed by some upscale clubbing. Oh the VIP  treatment. I chose a bodycon dress in cream with cutouts from ASOS. Sexy and fun, but never trashy. The cream color tones down a bit the sexiness of the dress. It’s tight on all the right places and covers up were it should (cleavage on this one would be a big don’t). I paired it up with some wrapped nude platform sandals. A nude palette with the right accessories is always a hit.

For the bag, a python clutch is definitely the way to go. It enhances the outfit, plus python is a must for the current and also for the coming season. Since there is no cleavage, a braided and golden statement necklace falls perfectly into place. Add a snake ring for more details and a warm grey nail polish hue, like this one fr0m Essie.

More flashy, more fun! Definitely for a night of mayhem! Perfect for club-hoppin’. You are definitely going to want to be seen, and this is the outfit for it. Lately I am obsessed with monochromatic ensembles paired with flashy accessories. I chose this emerald green, embellished hotpants form TOPSHOP. I tucked in a silk loose tank also from TOPSHOP in green. I love the way the whole thing looks together. For the shoes, coral YSL tribute sandals. Green and coral, a match made in heaven.

For accessories, a blue belt, an emerald plastic bangle and an Alexander McQueen skull box clutch in gold.

So there you have it! Two different outfits for you to rock it out in Vegas, I know I will!

Sweet kisses from Vegas…

Summer Getaways: THE JET-SET JUNKIE

In a previous post, I have already introduced you to Army, my little brother. In large families like mine, being the smallest of them all always comes with another trait, being spoiled. And he is no stranger to this, since he is also the only male son, born after three girls. Translation: Daddy’s boy. It’s only natural that among his favorite vacation spots are the glamour beaches, specially that southern french paradise commonly known as St. Tropez. Oh the good life! Spending the day on a yacht, working on the perfect tan, then hitting hard the clubs by night. And in between, shopping and splurging trips, fine dining with a view and lots of bubbly. Crowded with ridiculously good-looking people, St. Tropez is a place where champagne showers are more common than those with water.

And since St. Tropez is THE place to be seen, here I give you two looks to make it happen.

The perfect look for a stroll in the old town and the coastline. Casual and comfortable, but chic with the glitz and glamour that is St. Tropez. I chose a sequin & nude tank from ASOS. One would imagine this is a going out top, but the result of pairing it with a pair of white crisp running shorts was an absolute hit. For the shoes, I found this fabulous vintage looking, two-tone keds. They fall right into place with the outfit, plus they allow you to walk long distances without discomfort.

For accessories, a silver bangle with rhinestones  and MARC Marc Jacobs Love Edge double wrap bracelet from to glam it up even more. For the purse, a tote is the perfect. This Paul’s Boutique striped one is a bold choice, but it works! Pair the look with your favorite sunnies, a high ponytail or a bun and some shimmery, neutral lip gloss for a natural look.

One of St. Tropez attractions is its nightlife. So wether you are heading to Les Caves du Roy or the VIP Room after dinner and drinks, you need to look your best. It’s your looks and the way you carry yourself that will allow you to have access. I chose, in a very Ecclestone sisters kind of fashion, a bodycon dress in blush with a mesh panel from TOPSHOP. I paired it up with this fab sandals from River Island. They are dramatic and the fact that they have many colors allows you to play with the accessories.

Add a statement necklace to the dress, I went for a light blue with gold one. A rope cuff with rhinestones and an Alexander McQueen’s nude box clutch to complete your ensemble. Sport perfectly manicured nails, I recommend Illamasqua’s Purity.

So there you have it, are you ready to cruise St. Tropez?

Sweet kisses…

The Wedding Guest

Yup, I’ve reached that age. That age where friends begin to get married. That age where engagement and bachelorette parties are more frequent than birthdays. And when the wedding season begins, a girl’s got to be prepared. This past weekend one of my closest friends got hitched. This means a big, big party, taking the form of a roman bacchanal (lots of eating and lots of drinking involved till the break of dawn). For us mexican girls, a wedding is not just an event to dress up, we actually like to play red carpet (not literally, but we do wear our best oscar-worthy evening gowns). Boys look cute in their tuxes, girls look picture perfect. So what did I wear for this weekend’s wedding, here it is…

I went for a dramatic chiffon gown in teal. This dress was custom made for me, it has a fitted, woven bodice with a plunging neckline. It has built in support so you can actually go braless and rock a perfect cleavage. The dress opens up from the hips down in pleats. It has a lot of movement and also it has a very discreet leg opening so you can show off your pins when walking or dancing. I have to say it’s a great color to wear when you are sporting a killer tan. The clash of teal with a bronzed skin is a perfect combination. I paired it up with a pair of wrapped sandals in nude. They are sky-high but with the plaform you can last all night dancing and twirling without feeling slightest hint of pain or discomfort.

For accessories, since the dress has a little greek godess vibe to it, I decided to wear it with a clamp bangle and a multirow bracelet, both in gold. Small pearl studs with a hint of gold. And since I had my nails done in a very pretty shade of pink, I decided to have fun and match them to my clutch.

For beauty, I had my hair down, with soft, almost natural waves, very dark eyes and soft lips (you never want to go over the top).

We had a real blast! And by looking at these pictures, I think it shows.

Sweet kisses…

Summer Getaways: THE CITY BLONDE

Hello sweet readers, as I told you in my previous post, this is the second part of my Summer Getaways series of posts. As you should know by now (if not click HERE to read my previous post), this is Anita, otherwise known as Countess Winston. A girl who is all about allowing herself to get blinded by big city lights. Her favorite vacation spot, the great city of New York. No, on her itinerary there’s no visitng the Statue of Liberty, nor the Met or Times Square. Instead she loves to wander the streets in the search of that perfect cup of coffee, that vintage shop filled with treasures disguised as bargains. Under a Central Park tree is the perfect place to find inspiration, she’s a writer. She loves nothing more than Sunday brunch, flea markets and old bookshops. And when it gets darker, drinks are in order, followed by some dinner and dinner followed by more drinks!

So here for you, two looks, one for day, one for a night out in the gorgeous NYC!

Wether you are taking a stroll, a long walk in the park, visiting Moma or just having some brunch, this outfit is perfect for a casual and hot day in the Big Apple. I chose an emerald green chiffon playsuit. Short and flirty, perfect for the Summer. And in my very personal opinion, this green is going to be huge this coming season, so start greening your closet. To refresh the look, a blush kimono with a butterfly print from TOPSHOP. The kimono is also a key piece that every girl should have in her wardrobe, it has te power of giving your outfit a twist. As for shoes, I would love to be able to wander around the city in sky-high heels, but since bleeding feet are not attractive at all, flats are the way to go. This cute and pointy ballerina from ASOS seems to fall perfectly into place with the whole ensemble.

For accessories, this Gucci Lattice leather tote in taupe, a metallic owl vintage looking bangle, Isabel Marant’s “For the Queen” opal ring and for your paws, Essie’s Master Plan.

A night out in a big cosmopolitan city calls for a big cosmopolitan outfit! New York is a one of the world’s nightlife meccas. So that’s the time to put your chic on. I chose a skin-tight, high waisted python print skirt from ASOS. Remember, python is the new leopard. I paired it up with a long sleeved blouse with a twisted hem, also from TOPSHOP. To give it a touch of colorful fun, a pair of platform courts in Teal.

For accessories, Alexander McQueen’s military skull leather box clutch in black. A pair of gold stone tassel drop earrings and a claw with a black stone ring, both form River Island. For your manicure, Illamasqua’s nail polish in Load. For beauty, go for an updo. With the dangling earrings, you don’t want a whole bunch of hair hanging around your face. Give the earrings the importance they deserve.

So there you have it, two very summery and very New York outfits for your getaway! I hoped you like it. Next up, Summer Getaways: ST. TROPEZ

Sweet kisses…
