It’s Saturday, waking up late and catching up with your reading with a much needed cup of coffee is just the thing to do. So if you missed Sweet’n’Raw’s article for Chictopia, now’s the time to read away. I’ve been wanting to do a series on Short Suits, a trend that I really adore, my Chictopia weekly piece seemed to be the perfect opportunity. Without further ado, here it is:
The beauty about fashion is how unexpected it is: styles are always returning, garments are constantly reinvented and what you reputed as unwearable all of a sudden becomes in trend. The pantsuit officially made its comeback a couple seasons ago, and this spring we get to sport the fresh and leggy version of it: the short suit and blazer combo.
Whether you go with prints, color-blocking or a texture mash-up, the short suit is always fun to style in a dressy way. Now it’s no longer about a matching top and bottom— you can play with different fabrics and hues which allows you to incorporate different trends at the same time.
Possibilities are endless for the suit style. You can take it to work by adding a knitted vest and a button-down, for some drinks with a sequin top underneath and even for running errands with a crisp white tee and a pair of trainers.
· Tweed jackets are your best friend when wanting to sport this trend. Plus, they are as cute as a button, resourceful and timeless. If Mademoiselle Coco Chanel made them a fashion icon, they must be inside your closet (thank god there’s Zara to save us from the splurge). Be sure to take advantage of this season’s candy hues. A tweed jacket in a powdery shade is definitely knee-weakening material!
· Monochromatic looks are in trend right now but they have its risks: the boring factor and the ridicule one (you don’t want to look like a celery stick or any other piece of colorful produce). You need to choose your shapes and textures right and play with different shades of the same hue to make the whole ensemble more interesting and to avoid the “paint bucket shower” look.
· Tailored shorts are the key to pulling off this style, after all, we are talking about short suits. You can go wild and free with the textures, length, cut and shape, but while sticking to tailored shorts with a little bit of a high waist.
Short suits are definitely a way to have fun by mixing and matching. Now that the flowers are blooming and the sun is out, it’s time to take our legs out to play. Smart dressing has never been more fun, don’t you agree?
