Sweet’n’Raw’s Styling Sheets: BON VOYAGE!

The day is finally here, my sweet readers! Tomorrow I’ll be crossing the Atlantic before touching Aztec soil. Two times a year I get to visit my lovely country, that’s why Summer means so much to me. In spirit of tomorrow’s flight, I whipped up a styling sheet for those of you, who like me, are jetting off in the next few days. Airport style can be tricky. Some women have the misconception that “designer” comfort is allowed when travelling. Designer comfort for those tacky species means: velour Juicy Couture tracksuit, a pair of UGGs, the biggest sunnies on Earth(usually with the D&G or Versace logo in Swarovski crystals) and a big ass Louis Vuitton tote. This is the ultimate airport style sin, no matter how expensive your whole attire (adding the diamond collar on the Chihuaha named Candy Princess), you’ll always end up looking cheap. So yes, you need to look put together, but never over the top. A pair of stilettos and skin-tight clothes will en dup working against you after a 12 hour flight. Anyway, I’m gonna make this quick since I still have to wrap up the packing, the organizing and get a few hours of sleep before the departure. Here’s what I recommend:

Chinos are my favorite bottoms when it comes to flying, comfy but never frumpy. Add some knitwear and a cute jacket, throw some killer sneakers into the mix or a pair of ballerinas and voila!

I think Mulberry bags or similar ones are the perfect travel companions. They have straps and handles for comfort, buckles and zippers for security and they lovely to look at!

Splurge: MULBERRY Alternatives: ZARA & VANESSA BRUNO

Last but not least, the bag essentials (usually I’m quite descriptive and witty with each item , but time is running out and I really need to get everything done):

1. MAKE ME PRETTY: After a long flight, a few touch-ups before leaving the aircraft are needed. Hey, if looking pretty and winking are gonna mekr the whole immigration thing easier…

  • Pocket perfume
  • Lip balm
  • Creamy nude lipstick (this is D&G)
  • Stila stick concealear (better and less messier than liquid ones)
  • Nars Orgasm blush and brush (peachy cheeks are rejuvenating)
  • Benefit brown eyeliner
  • Speedy brow form Benefit (a miracle worker)

2. FIX ME UP: Dehydration, smudges, bad breath and fatigue can all be beaten!

  • Pocket tooth brush (not even gonna comment on this one)
  • Avene thermal water spray (may sound snobbish, but it does help refresh)
  • Hope moisturizer from Philosophy (hydrates, protects form UV rays, HOPE is all you need)
  • Baby wipes (needed when least expected)
  • Ani-bac (let your inner Howard Hughes take over inside the aircraft)
  • Lip moisturizer

3. RELAX, TAKE IT EASY: I’m one who can’t really sleep inside buses, cars or airplanes. This is what I need.

  • Sleeping beauty eye mask
  • Earphones
  • Neck pillow
  • Cozy socks (also for security checkpoints, God forbid I walk barefoot while my shoes are on a plastic tray).
  • Sleeping pills (yes, I need them, don’t judge me)

4. LIFESAVERS: have them at all times with you, you’ll need them

  • Document leather envelope (passport, tickets, visas, money, your whole life)
  • Wallet (we are nothing without the dough, sad, but true)
  • iPhone
  • iPad
  • Tissues
  • Notepad and pen (paper and ink are always useful)
  • Water, lots of it (not the silly little glasses they pour you on coach)

I’m off to finish packing! Next time, I’ll write from Mexico City!

Sweet kisses…

Sweet’n’Raw’s SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012

Rise & shine, my sweet readers! Summer has definitely arrived to the city (if New York has Hell’s Kitchen, Milan has Hell’s Oven), tempertaures are over the top, legs are on display and for me, well, the final countdown has begun. My holidays are just three days away and I couldn’t be happier. And since I assume most of you are also packing your bags or deciding on a gorgeous destination to do some roasting (always with sunscreen) and sip sinfully caloric, umbrella cocktails, it’s time to bring them back: THE SUMMER GETAWAYS. If you have been a faithful reader for a year, you probably remember them. If you are the new kid on the block, click HERE to find out what it’s all about and what to expect. This year, I’m making things bigger: five different styles, five different destinations, three looks for each destination: beachwear, daywear and eveningwear. Now that you know the dynamics, it’s time for me to introduce (or re-introduce) the five ladies that will be accompanying us through this July journey. Without further ado, meet Sweet’n’Raw’s holiday babes.

  • Name: Jaime
  • Destination style: Party central
  • Favorite places: Ibiza, Miami, Mykonos
  • 2012 holiday spot of choice: LAS VEGAS

You’ve met her before, and a year later, she hasn’t slowed the pace one bit. “Party Animal” falls short for our little Jaime, she is more like the ultimate “Party Monster”, but a classy one. Party Princesses never loose their cool (leave the dry-humping, dancing-on-top-of-the-bar-without-knickers to those Cancun visitors that enjoy foam parties).  So if you are the kind of gal that starts the day with a big, greasy breakfast (hey, when drinking, carbs are needed), followed by a some mimosas when in Vegas. If you then proceed to put on your best bikini and head out to Marquee to party all afternoon. If you have a little power nap before heading out to dinner, then drinks, the a little XS. If you wake up the next day and do it all over again, this is your holiday style. So get that suitcase party ready! If you are a Party Princess and want some pointers on what to pack or wear to your upcoming Vegas trip (or any other party central destination), be sure to check back!

  • Name: Sophie
  • Destination style: Dreamy delights
  • Favorite places: Amalfi coast, Napa Valley, Tuscany
  • 2012 holiday spot of choice: PARIS & PROVENCE

Oh, l’amour… Sweet Sophie has always had a soft spot for movies that take place in foreign lands. But not just any foreign land, just those where you can wine, fine dine and fall in love. So if you are the kind of girl who has watched Under the Tuscan Sun a million times and dreams about purchasing, like Frances a villa in Tuscany. If your book shelf is filled with chick lit about Paris and Rome. If you’d rather have late night walks and a bottle of wine in a veranda, on a breezy afternoon than drinks at a New York hot spot. If you think that Paris is the perfect setting for the perfectly imperfect, once in a lifetime love affair. If you said yes to one or more, you are like me, a hopeless romantic. Over the next few days I’ll be presenting you with three looks for a romantic destination.

  • Name: Pearl
  • Destination style: Glamour beach
  • Favorite places: Porto Cervo, St. Tropez, Cannes, Dubai
  • 2012 holiday spot of choice: ST. BARTS

If every Summer you spend more time on a yacht than on dry land, you are like Pearl, the ultimate jet-set junkie. Three, four or five destinations in one month, one after the other? Non-stop flying and non-stop partying? Champagne buckets, keep’em coming? So if you are going to spend all day on a private beach club, sipping some bubbly, you’ll need the perfect beach outfit range. If you are going to spend the afternoon shopping and chilling, you’ll need day wear ensemble ideas. If you’ll dine at the island’s top restaurant followed by partying next to Jay-z’s table, you’ll need to look the part! Son if you are into the whole jet-set thing, this is definitely gonna be helpful when packing your suitcase.

  • Name: Anita
  • Destination style: Asphalt jungles
  • Favorite places: New York City,
  • 2012 holiday spot of choice: LONDON

City Blondes make the perfect holiday mix. To them is not only about the party, it’s no only about the tanning, it’s not only about the dining. City Blondes make an experience out of each city and place they visit. They like to breathe in the essence of the place, you’ll never find this breed in turistic sites. They tend to explore and discover  hidden treasures and gems. That doesn’t mean they are not interested in the nightlife or the pool, they just like to do and see everything they can. They prefer the big ass cities, the concrete jungles. So if you need an outfit for a roof top pool morning, an outfit for an art gallery afternoon or for evening drinks in good company, this is the place!

  • Name: Flora
  • Destination style: Peace temples
  • Favorite places: Road trips, Goa, San Francisco
  • 2012 holiday spot of choice: THAILAND

For our little free spirit is all about a journey, a journey with the mind, with the senses. It’s about finding the balance, the peace. Is about taking it all in, the sights, the smells, the colors, the textures. Surely a photography fanatic, she’ll try to capture every moment and every bit of the place. It’s about leaving the worries aside and chill, with a beer, on the beach (preferably on hamaca), with the buddies. So if you are planning a road trip with friends, or if Thailand is waiting for you, I have some casual and laid-back looks ready for you (of course, Sweet’n’Raw style/a touch of sugar).

Well, now that you’ve met the ladies, it’s time to start styling! Remember, five styles, five destinations, three rounds: BEACHWEAR, DAY WEAR, EVENING WEAR. Naturally, we’ll start with the beachy looks! Stay tuned!

México lindo y querido, -3

Sweet kisses…

NAIL FILES: Somewhere over the rainbow…

It’s Sunday and after a long week of work and a weekend full of party, all we really need is a couch, a movie and our comfiest pair of PJs . That is why today, no dressing up, no look of the day and no Summer 2012 trends. As you already know (if you don’t, click HERE), every month I publish a themed nail polish selection, depending on the season, the month and my mood. Sweet’n’Raw’s NAIL FILES have given you X-mas inspired nail enamel, floral, fruity, sugary and even boozy. Today I went with the obvious: rainbow nails. For Summer, bright fingers and toes are just the thing to add that certain twist to your ensembles and your killer tan (sunscreen at all times, please). So if you are sitting on your sofa, watching the soccer match (my Italian boys are playing today against England) or waiting for that certain Viking Vampire to rock our Sunday TV time (I’m also a sucker for True Blood), grab your brightest shade and give yourself  a manicure, RAINBOW STYLE!

Wear me out and dress me up: CROCHET SHORTS

Finally Friday, my sweet readers! It’s really hot out there, Summer has arrived and it definitely shows. What are your plans today? Are you gonna go out for some drinks with the girls? Dinner date with the boyfriend? Housewarming party at your best friends home? How about wearing some crochet shorts tonight? I have for you the third and last part form the WEAR ME OUT: CROCHET SHORTS series. And since it’s Friday and we usually wear of best clothes for the evening, I dressed up some burgundy crochet shorts. To dress up this pair of beauties, you can add a blazer, a cropped jacket, a silk blouse and some fabulous, sky-high heels. I went for a textured ensemble, but first, the crochet shorts selection.

TOP: Miss Selfridge / Romwe / River Island

MIDDLE: Valentino / Haute Hippie / Opening Ceremony

BOTTOM: River Island / River Island / River Island

All lace and crochet with a statement necklace to make it more interesting for today. The burgundy, bottle green and blush combo is definitely one of my favorites. A more is more look that manages to keep that delicate and sophisticated vibe.

Just 8 days to hug my Mommy and Daddy! Can’t wait! Have a lovely weekend and see you on Sunday with this month’s NAIL FILES (yes, it’s that time of the month again WOO HOO).

Hello, hello my sweet readers! I’m bringing to you my 7th article for Chictopia’s blog, Everybody is Ugly. This piece really reflects my personal style, y’all know I’m a pastel junkie, but my real obsession has always been nude. It was 6 years ago, when in a trip to San Diego with friends, I went back home penniless and with two suitcases packed with ivory, cream, blush, french gray and light coral garments. Since then, the obsession, like all obsessions has grown considerably (up to the point that I now refuse to wear black). I have also been a fan of color-blocking since the Jil Sander milestone, that’s why I wanted to mix both this trends. Color-blocking neutral style? Yeah baby! Read away and tell me what you think!

Style Tip: Neutral Color Blocking

It was in Spring 2011 when a certain Jil Sander collection changed it all. Bananas of Prada were not the only ones to steal the spotlight that season. Raf Simons’ bright and colorful silhouettes also took over the fashion world. From his game of proportions, volume, and length, to his couture shapes paired up with simple, white t-shirts, it was a delightful fashion display. But there was one particular trend from the show that really stood out: color blocking.

Color blocking can be defined as the art of mixing and contrasting different chunks of color in one ensemble. That September, bold color blocking was embraced by many designers such as Gucci, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Prabal Gurung to name a few. It obviously became the trend that defined the season. Soon enough, retail followed. We are sure that if we took a peek inside your closets, we would still find that green lantern skirt or the hot pink, jersey blazer, both from Zara. We all did it that season and we kept on doing it the next. And since fashionistas around the globe can’t seem to get enough of it, color blocking is not going anywhere just yet!

In fashion, all things tend to get renewed, refreshed, and reinvented. Christophe Decarnin transformed Joan Collins’ ghastly shoulder pads and inserted them in those pricey-but-oh-so-worth-it Balmain jackets. The infamous harem pants of MC Hammer were brought back from the dead (a much better version of them) in 2009 by Chloé and friends. And last season’s print mash-up morphed into a textured one. With neon and pastel colors taking over Spring 2012, it was only a matter of time for color blocking to get its revamp. Sugarcoated or electrified, this style is still a favorite among the fashion crowd.

Since color blocking went from bold hues to pastel ones, why not take it to neutral territory? Neutrals are a constant in fashion, even if tangerine or hot pink are in trend, you’ll always need them to compliment them. Instead of mixing them up with other hues, why not pair French Gray and blush with ivory or white? The result? Sleek color-blocking, always clean, always sophisticated.

We’ve come up with three different ways to style the neutral color blocking trend! It’s time to put your color blocking skills to the test with subtle colors. We know you can do it Chictopians. Get the style tips from the illustrations!

Sweet’n’Raw’s Sweet Dreams: THE DRESS

Hello, hello my sweet readers! It’s Wednesday and I’m counting the days to say: “Arrivederci Italia, ci vediamo dopo”. Don’t get me wrong, I love living in Italy (and Le Boyfriend will be joining me in Aztec soil two weeks after), every second of it. The truth is, after a while, I need my sister, sister quality time, I need to have one too many drinks with my brother, a couple of bottles of wine with the girls and above all, Mommy and Daddy. I’m just 10 days away from boarding that plane that’ll take me to Mexico Lindo and between deadlines, the blog and packing I’m starting to feel the pressure. But hey, bloggers should be like soldiers, they must never abandon their troops (ok, my lovely readers), so I am preparing lots of posts so you won’t go a day or two without news from me.

Well, after this long, long introduction, let’s talk about the thing that matters today. I’m back with the fourth post from our SWEET DREAMS series, one more in the next few days and then it’s a wrap for the pajama trend. It was Stella McCartney’s fault with her fab, shift dresses with lace inserts. Cami dresses, slip dresses and shift ones have been around for a while now. There’s a trick though, if it’s lacy and silky (almost like a nightgown) use it as a sundress, you really want to avoid the stiletto and heavy makeup combo (the bordello look is so 1500’s) . If it’s a pretty, pajama print shift, you can definitely style it more for a night out or also for day. Here’s a vast selection you can find online.

TOP: Topshop / Mango / Mango / L’Agence

MIDDLE: ALC / Stella McCartney / Topshop / Elizabeth & James

BOTTOM: Topshop / Edun / River Island / Miss Selfridge

I wanted to show you how Sweet’n’Raw does boho. My style is definitely more ladylike, that’s why I rarely do the bohemian thing. Anyway, to make it my own, I just throw in some pastels and lace. What do you think?

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

Two days till Friday, 10 days for Mexico City and then NYC. Sweet Summer, come to mamma!

Sweet kisses…

Sweet’n’Raw’s Barely Dressed: CROCHET SHORTS

Good morning my sweet readers! As I told you before, today’s post is part of Sweet’n’Raw’s new sections. Remeber the “Wear me out and dress me down post” (if you didn’t read it or want to do it again, click HERE), well this is the second part of three. The WEAR ME OUT is a three post story on how to wear Summer essentials in three different ways: dressed up, dressed down and barely dressed. Today we are going to focus on the barely dressed part, since we are starting to make our first trips to the beach. Yes, barely dressed is all about how to style this garments with bikinis and beachy sandals. The crochet shorts, in case you haven’t noticed yet, are everywhere this season. Creamy, white, burgundy or black, I own them in almost every color (even black, and I am a total absence of black activist). Do you have your pair? If not, check this styles out and click away (your credit card won’t thank you, but your closet will).

TOP: Miss Selfridge / Romwe / River Island

MIDDLE: Valentino / Haute Hippie / Opening Ceremony

BOTTOM: River Island / River Island / River Island

I wanted to play with the monochromatic trend, not only because all cream is a favorite of mine for the beac, but also because I wanted to draw attention to Zara’s leopard sandals, this pair of babies are among the most coveted items right now. The big sunnies add a twist of glamour to the ensemble and the dark nail polish a bit of drama.

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

Thoughts? Are you going to be rocking the all-cream, crochet with a pinch of leopard look anytime soon? If you do, be sure to post some pictures for me! Have a great day!

Sweet kisses…

PS: In about eleven days, Sweet’n’Raw will be reporting form the magical Mexico City and two week later, from the fabulous New York!

Sweet’n’Raw’s Sweet Dreams: THE PANTS

Good Monday, my sweet readers! Summer is finally here and my body is starting to ache, longing for the beach. Fortunately for me, my beloved Mexico is just two weeks away and my Acapulco Bay feels closer than ever (goodbye Casper skin). We are halfway through with our Sweet Dreams series and today’s the trousers turn. Pajama-like pants are comfy, easy to wear and laid-back. When it comes to them, frumpy is pure myth. There are many, many ways to play with this garment, you can dress it up with a silky top (slightly tucked in) and a pair of heeled sandals. You can keep it cool with a simple tank and a those pretty, pretty embellished sandals you just bought from Zara. You can take them to work with a blazer or a printed button-down or even for a couple of drinks when in a beachy destination: add a sparkly top and a fancy clutch. Are you ready to try this out? Let’s start with a selection available online.

CREAMY: Mango / Malene Birger / Topshop / Topshop

GRAPHIC: DVF / Mango / J. Crew / Mango

FLORAL: Clements Ribeiro / Maliparmi / Dries Van Noten / Suno

Two simple, neutral garments to give away a pajama vibe. I dressed them up with a detailed bag and lots of arm candy to make it more interesting. I chose the barely there sandals to draw all the attention to the arms and the top.

All the details on today’s look can be found at FASHIOLISTA

What do you thinkof this look? About Sweet’n’Raw’s new sections? Let me know!

Sweet kisses…

PS: Thank you all for your support, for reading and liking Sweet’n’Raw. We are doing better than ever and it’s all thanks to you!

Sweet’n’Raw’s Styling Sheets: HAPPY HOUR

It’s Saturday and it’s sunny out there, my sweet readers! What are you up to today? Spring and Summer always make everything prettier (God has received  a few letters of complaint form yours truly about his invention of Winter, written mostly on my mind, while I’m waiting for the bus, holding an umbrella, while snow buries my feet), flowers blossom, trees grow back their leaves and terraces, yes, you heard right, terraces are open. I have my “perfect moment” formula: good company + good wine + terrace (if you asked me two years ago, I would’ve said Redbull + Grey Goose + Jagermeister + Bob Sinclair, the party animal in me is slowly dying). You know what that translates into? Summer happy hour! After a long day of work or on a quiet Saturday, happy hour is just the thing to do. Meet friends, have a chat, have a boozy drink, or two, or three… That’s life! When you don’t want to look over the top, nor underdressed, what to wear to happy hour? Here’s Sweet’n’Raw’s suggestion.

I’m not a fan of blue jeans, never have, but when it comes to navy ones, I do love them. For this look I wanted to downplay the top, which is rather elegant. I did it by pairing it up with a pair of dark skinnies. The mustard pumps give the whole look an edgy, color-blocking effect, even more so with the green bag. What do you think?

  1. 3D floral top, ASOS
  2. Navy skinny jeans, ZARA
  3. Mustard platform sandals, ZARA
  4. Zeppelin bag, MARC BY MARC JACOBS
  5. Tortoiseshell watch, MICHAEL KORS
  6. Gold chain bracelet pack, ASOS
  7. Green stretch bracelet, MIRABELLE
  8. Statement ring, PIECES
  9. Clambake nail polish, ESSIE

Splurge: Marc by Marc Jacobs / Alternatives: French Connection & River Island

A small, shoulder bag is the best option for happy hour. It doesn’t need much space and you can hang it anywhere. I love making new color combos, so when I put together coral, mustard and navy, a green purse was just the missing piece on my stylish puzzle.

  1. MAKE ME PRETTY: Since the bag doesn’t allow us to carry our usual amount of crap, we need to make a smart selection. A bright lipstick like YSL’s Rouge Pour Couture 28 to match the top / Your lifesavers and companions: NARS Orgasm blush and brush / USU Airlines concealer stick, easier to apply and it’ll freshen your makeup in a jiffy / Estee Lauder’s Pure color eye crayon, 2 in 1 are the best for small bags / Stash everything in a cute and bright bag like this one Models Own
  2. FRESHEN ME UP: Easy, Anti-bac + Gum + Lip balm= the trifecta
  3. CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT ME: A slightly smaller wallet like this one from See by CHLOE, you keys (duh) and the star of it all, the iPhone.

There you go! Now you know how Sweet’n’Raw does Happy Hour. Now I have to run, I’m actually heading out to have a couple of drinks. Happy Saturday!

Sweet kisses…
