THE MASH-UP: Take 3

Still freezing over here my sweet, sweet readers! Even though the days are gray and going outside is almost unbearable, spirits are up because in exactly two days NYFW kicks off! Sweet’n'Raw is armed and ready for a complete coverage, which will start tomorrow with a preview of what the Big Apple has in store for us. In the meantime, I have for you the third post of our MASH-UP series. You seem to be liking them and I am sure having a blast preparing the looks for you. Today I wanted to use texture and shorts (shorts make me think of Spring, and if my body can’t have Spring, my mind sure can) for today’s outfit. What you’ll need? Fringed shorts, printed blouse, printed blazer and some cute thigh-high socks. Without further ado, let’s start with a garment selection that can be useful to you when creating your own fashion mash-up.

SELECTION

PRINTED BLAZER:

Make your look a unique one by adding this fun detail. Blazers are reinventing themselves and so should you.

  • Yellow flowers, River Island
  • Pajama style, TOPSHOP
  • Tropical flowers, TOPSHOP

SOFT BLOUSE:

Blouses are a girl’s best friend, so are flowers and powder shades. Who doesn’t love a romantic print on a shirt?

  • Daisy short sleeved, Marc Jacobs
  • Cowboy style, TOPSHOP
  • Floral romance, River Island

TEXTURED SHORTS

Leather, fringes or shiny finish, a pair of sexy shorts are always the best for showcasing your great style and killer pins.

  • Canary leather, Emma Cook
  • Cream fringes, Nasty Gal
  • Shiny stripes, Jil Sander

LOOK OF THE DAY

For this one I wanted to go with soft and neutral colors. It’s safe to say that the whole outfit was inspired by this pair of shorts, I can’t wait to wear them with bare legs and sky-high sandals, but it’s still Winter, so this is what I came up with. The fringed cream shorts are from Nasty Gal. I tucked in the cutest button down shirt there is, a swan printed, blush blouse from ASOS. For coverage, a scenic print blazer also from ASOS. To add another cute detail, a bug belt in gold, also from ASOS. To cover our lower limbs, cable knit thigh-high socks. For the shoes, a pair of very resourceful black platforms with a wooden heel.

For the bag, with classic linen and leather and YSL you can never go wrong. Last but not least, a ring from ASOS and from Essie’s new Spring collection, A crewed interest for your nails.

That’s it for today sweeties! Brace yourselves for the madness that will be Fashion Week. I can’t be more excited!

Sweet kisses…

THE MASH-UP: Take 2

How’s your Monday going so far, my sweet readers? Milano is colder than my freezer and this tardy Winter doesn’t seem to want to go away anytime soon. Thank God I have the Mash-up series to at least try and cheer us all up with fun and flashy prints and textures. If you haven’t read the previous posts from this saga, you can find them by clicking HERE and HERE. Last time I gave you flirty and nude with a touch of navy, this time we are gonna go a little bit crazier. You will be needing a solid colored blazer, a pussybow blouse, a shiny jumper and printed pants. Let’s start with a selection of garments that can help you set up the look (you can find all of them online).

SELECTION:

COLORFUL BLAZER:

Thank you fashion world for the neon and pastel trends for Spring. Now that all retailers have released the coming season’s collections, you can find a large selection of blazers in every cut, shape and… wait for it…. color!

  • Canary Yellow, Emilio Pucci
  • Electric Blue, Paul Smith
  • Fuchsia, Oasis Stores

SHINY JUMPER:

Metallic is also a big trend for the season. You gotta love those gold and silver sweaters that look as if made from foil wrap. Every store is carrying them right now!

  • 3/4 & Silver, Misselfridge.com
  • Golden sequins, J. Crew
  • Golden foil, H&M

FLORAL PRINT PANTS:

What a better way to twist up a little your look than with a pair of fabulous printed trousers. Wether you are into romantic flowers or flashy ones, you can find a perfect pair that suits your shape and personality.

  • Hints of pastel, River Island
  • Cute print, Dolce & Gabbana
  • Tropical flowers, Topshop

LOOK OF THE DAY

I tend to obsess over new color combinations. Right now I have a thing for gray, bottle green and lavender. For today’s outfit, I went for a total look from ZARA. I just can get over how great this season’s collection is and it’s just the beginning. I chose a pair of tailored pants with floral print. I tucked inside a pussybow blouse with a low neckline in cream. To keep on layering textures, a cute sequin, gray jumper. Over everything, a bottle green fitted blazer (you can wear it with the sleeves gathered or down). For the shoes, a closet basic, tan ankle “cowboy” boots with a comfortable heel.

For the bag, I wanted to add a little neutral to the outfit, this YSL bag is just the thing. For jewelry, a peacock ring from Lucky Brand, a fox one from Elizabeth and James and a braided bracelet from ASOS. For your nails, some lavender courtesy of Butter London’s Muggins.

There you go! New mash-up ideas for you to try at home! Did you like it? We still have two more to go. Check back tomorrow for a new one.

Sweet kisses…

THE MASH-UP: Take 1

It’s Monday and the week is only starting, so is our new series of posts! Did you like our trend of the week? I am really enjoying preparing this looks for you. Mash-up allow us to play with our creativity and that’s my favorite thing to do. That is why today I have one crazy mixture of textures and prints. Polka dots, pleats, navy stripes, flowers, patches and woven shoes? It sounds crazy but it sure looks good! Let’s start with a selection of garments, mere ideas so you can head out the door, look for similar ones and start mashing-up (I do not intend for you to splurge on a $1,500 blazer, but there’s always the much more affordable steal version).

SELECTION

BLAZERS:

Think outside the “solid blazer” box. Look for different and interesting prints. Textures like sequins, velvet or jacquard make perfect ingredients for a successful mash-up.

  • McQueen red & gold printed blazer
  •  TIBI leopard, fitted blazer
  • Unconditional silver sequin blazer

TOPS:

From knits to sequins, a mash-up top is easy to find. If you look closely, you might have several candidates inside your closet. A lace blouse, a printed t-shirt, anything with a detail might work.

  • Marcus Lupfer black lace blouse
  • Adam sleeveless sequin top
  • Jason Wu fun printed blouse

SKIRTS

You can walk the fringe road, or perhaps you’d rather go with the leather one. Either way, if it looks good and it’s printed or textured, you have a winner.

  • Michael Kors fringed skirt
  • Antipodium Blissin printed skirt
  • Marc Jacobs leather pink skirt

LOOK OF THE DAY

This time I wanted to go cute all the way. That’s why I chose this Nasty Gal skirt with an asymmetric hem. It has pleats and polka dots, that makes it real mash-up material. I tucked in a neutral t-shirt with a floral design on it from Warehouse. You can find it at ASOS. To cover up, I’ve given you polka and flowers, how about some stripes? This shapely, navy, and white blazer is from Nasty Gal. Rembember those English professor jackets with elbow patches? This original Modcloth tights have that fun detail, but this time over the knees. For the shoes, more mix for the mash! This pair of navy, woven beauties are from Bionda Castana and are available at Browns.

For the purse, some green is just what the Doctor ordered. This beautiful bag is from Golden Goose. Jewelry? A kitsch and floral watch from ASOS, a multi bracelet from Modcloth, an enamel one with stripes from J. Crew, and our beloved ARTY from YSL in peacock green.

There you go! Did you enjoy our mix and match? Did we hit or miss? I’d love to read your comments and thoughts on this edgy and risky take on this trend. Have a lovely week y’all!

All the details about this look can be found at FASHIOLISTA.

Sweet kisses…

THE MASH-UP: Texture Collage

Lazy Sunday my sweet readers! Oh how I enjoy days like this, working inside the covers, with a big, fat cup of coffee while watching Kelsey Grammer’s Boss al day long. Today I’m introducing our new trend series and frankly, this is one I’ve been wanting to do for a while now (you’ll underestand later on why). The mash-up has become very popular in the music business. Who hasn’t seen a video on Youtube featuring one with an Adele or Rihanna song? Obviously, the fashion industry came up with their on wersion of a mash-up. During Fashion Week in February, we witnessed how hundreds of models strutted the runways in particular creations, overloaded with details. Remeber the”print over print” we were given a few season ago? Well, this is the 1.0 version. Not only are we now allowed to mix and match prints, but also different textures, knits and finishes, all at once. So if you like scrapbooking, why not do it on yourself?

RUNWAY SELECTION

Here’s a selection of looks that some of the designers displayed on their runways on Fashion Week A/W 2011.

TOP:

  • Garden collage, Mary Katrantzou LFW AW 2011
  • Futuristic textures, Balenciaga PFW AW 2011
  • Detailed volumes, Marni MFW AW 2011
  • Temptress mix, Givenchy PFW AW 2011

BOTTOM:

  • Retro salad, Marc Jacobs NYFW 2011
  • Romantic randezvous, Valentino PFW 2011
  • Pastel madness, Missoni MFW 2011
  • Shiny contrasts, Anna Sui NYFW 2011

There you go! Over the next few days I will be presenting some looks that can help you get ideas on how you can pull this trend off. I hope you like them! Wanna know why I love this trend so much? You should know by now… I’m allergic to minimalism.

Sweet kisses…
