LADY DOODLES, the wallpaper

lady doodles

It all began one rainy afternoon, when wanting to creatively personalize my resume… I started with one doodle, then the other and so on. I scanned them and began piling them up. I copied and pasted them like a hundred times and this was the result: a pretty and girly wallpaper I decided to name “Lady Doodles”. You likey?

Sweet n’Raws X-mas Shopping Guide: THE FRANCOPHILE

the francophile

Hello, hello my sweet readers! December is finally here and it’s definitely starting to feel like Christmas (or like Winter, temperature has really dropped today): the big and bright tree in Piazza Duomo, the lights inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, the beautifully decorated windows at the shops in Via Montenapoleone (even if the cold is almost deadly, Milano sure knows how to suit up for the Holidays). As the first parties and dinners start to happen (the one thing I miss about Mexico during this time was the booze-fest me and my friends used to organize every year), so does the shopping. As I told you on Saturday, Sweet n’Raw is armed and ready with a bunch of gift ideas that can help you sort out what to give who. In my Holiday shopping guide you will find that there is everything for every budget: from a $2,000 Chanel vintage bag to a $4.00 lip gloss.

As I mentioned before, Sweet n’Raw’s Christmas shopping guide is personality-inspired. This year, I wanted to think a little bit out of the box, not your usual “rocker chick” “boho chic” kind of guide. I have prepared two selections per personality: the splurge (if you are going all out) and the steal (if you are smart shopping). To get things started, a personality I really identify with: the francophile.

Us francophiles know exactly what “francophile” means. For the rest of you, don’t panic, it’s not a disease (but it is an addiction). A francophile is a non-french individual obsessed with all things gallic. There are many of us out there, we know we are not alone. In fact, I bet you have a friend who dreams about Paris even when she is awake. A friend who dreams of a house in the French countryside. A friend who has read every single expat memoir for sale on Amazon. A friend who, if she had the money and the speediest metabolism in the world, would live on Laduree macarons. In case you wondered, I am all of the above. If you have a sister or a colleague that goes crazy with la France and all that it has to offer, this is the list you need when shopping for her gift. Let’s get started!

splurge pastel

  1. Sea green stone Arty Ring, YSL
  2. Fuchsia gloves, Miu Miu
  3. Pink nail polish selection (Tendresse, May, Ballerina and Rose Exuberant), Chanel Le Vernis
  4. Powder blue vintage bag, Chanel
  5. Mint snakeskin flats, J. Crew
  6. Lace dress, Oscar de la Renta
  7. Detailed jumper, Moschino Cheap & Chic
  8. Glitter sunglasses, Miu Miu
  9. Stripe pajama shirt, Bodas
  10. Santal Blush perfume, Tom Ford
  11. Statement necklace, Erickson Beamon
  12. Pom pom sandals, Charlotte Olympia

steal p

  1. Ballerina flats, ASOS
  2. Essie nail polish selection (Like to be bad, Love and acceptance, Who’s the boss), ASOS
  3. Baby pink satchel, Zatchels
  4. An Extraordinary Theory of Objects book, Stephanie LaCava
  5. Cream dress, Topshop
  6. Ruffle jumper, Romwe
  7. Vanity mirror, Urban Outfitters
  8. Petit Cherie eau de toilette, Annick Goutal
  9. Kitten ring, Modcloth
  10. Ankle-strap heels, Zara

Ready to shop for your wannabe French girlfriend? If you are my friend (or my boyfriend) and you are getting me a Christmas present, this is the post you should be looking at. Need more ideas? A lot more personality-inspired gifts coming your way!

Happy shopping and sweet kisses…

20 days till X-mas!

SWEET TROUBLE: Pink gets me high as a kite…

When it comes to pink nail polish, I admit it, I am a compulsive shopper. But I am not the cheese who stands alone in this one, I know that for sure (my sister is to nail polish, what Berlusconi is to Viagra).

How many times have you had to explain le boyfriend that the pink Dior is creamier than the Chanel one (even though they look almost the same) and that’s why you need them both.

How many times have you stood before the impressive nail polish line-up at drugstore aisle, trying to decide between barbie pink, candy pink or mauve. After a 30 minute deliberation (the security guard walking around you, eyeing you suspiciously, as a potential shoplifter means you’ve been in there for too long) you decide to take them all along with that neon pink that just caught your eye (even though you promised you would only buy one).

You feel the need to gift yourself Tom Ford’s Private Blend Nail Lacquer set this Christmas (click HERE if you wish to see it, at the risk of feeling greedier than Gollum). You are willing to pay 400 pounds for the box, only if the sales lady agrees to substitute the 16 shades inside with 16 bottles of Indian Pink.

You get your Essie parcel at home, only to discover you bought 15 shades of pink and one coral.

Your Instagram account could easily be mistaken for an OPI catalogue (the pinks and roses section, of course).

Does pink get you high as a kite? Is pink your favorite crayon? Yes, I’m kinda quoting Aerosmith.

If the answer’s yes, I rest my case.

A girl can never have too many bottles of pink nail polish.

Sweet kisses…

LFW COVERAGE: Rain, rain don’t go away. I wanna wear my metallic trench!

Happy Thursday, my sweet readers! It’s almost Friday and our fashion month is almost over. Lucky for you, since we still have a bunch of pending reviews, Fashion week will still be hanging around Sweet n’Raw for a few more posts. Today I am delivering to you another five shows from London: Christopher Bailey gets metallic for Burberry Prorsum, Mary Katrantzou’s breathtaking works of art, eccentric meets Disney for Meadham Kirchhoff and Christopher Kane in all his sorbet glory. Ready for it? Let’s go!

BURBERRY PRORSUM

Christopher Bailey has twisted and turned Burberry Prorsum through the seasons, making it one of the most important shows in LFW. This season, the designer didn’t fail to stun by presenting a collection in which metallic shades and lots of leg flashing had the main roles. The show started out as sexy as sexy can get: a coat and some hotpants (shiny, disco hotpants), confirming that we gotta start squatting and lunging since this little garments will be everywhere on Spring 2013. The color palette was bright and bold with a pinch of taupe and blush: bubblegum pink, teal, fuchsia, midnight blue and so on.

Color-blocking, peplums, lace, fitted dresses, cute and sassy capes (remember last show’s cropped bombers, it’s like that, only better), colorful lace (lots of it) and pencil skirts were among the elements presented on the catwalk. The highlight of the show? How Bailey managed to re-vamp, reload and reinvent the brand’s staple garment: the famous Burberry trench (satin, leather, lace, metallic, you name it). The model line-up? Sellar. The front row? Even more so.

MARY KATRANTZOU

She is the print, drama Queen and we all know it. She stunned with the lampshade dresses seasons ago, she has been doing the same ever since. For her Spring 2013 show, the Greek designer was all about post stamps and bills (yes, as strange as that may sound, it was a bold and beautiful move). The color palette is so hard to define, there’s so much going on with those prints that the colors are just one of the many elements you can find in one garment. About the shapes and lengths, you just have to keep it simple to make those prints pop: pantsuits, button-down shirts, flowy dresses and some cleavage. Trend spotting? Brocade, it’ll be everywhere next Spring (mark my damn words).

PREEN

We missed this show in the NYFW line-up, but it was definitely worth the wait. Prints and panels are definitely one of their signature styles and this time it involved python and flowers, navy and leather, printed chiffon and lace. The trousers were slouchy enough, the slits on the skirts were sexy and high and the sheer, well there was sheer in all the right places. Wild elements met romantic ones for a feminine look with an edge. The mix between python and those chunky roses was my favorite part of the show, so were the barely there shoes.

MEADHAM KIRCHHOFF

Why are they my favorite duo? Because they sure know how to get that over-the-top vibe to awesome heights. They enchanted me last Spring with their candy cartoon show, then came the crazy disco, and now they enchanted me all over again. The show had some opulent, Marie Antoinette-esque elements paired up with some Minnie Mouse t-shirts. Socks were high, hats were big, jewelry was lavish, bows were everywhere and the drama was on! If you ask me, I want to be wearing that black little number and the lace, pajama yellow jumpsuit right now and forever until the day I die and after the day I die. You might as well throw me into the casket and bury me wearing them but not just the garment, the accessories, the headpieces, the make up and even the curls.

CHRISTOPHER KANE

It was Frankenstein for Christopher Kane’s Spring 2013 show. But not the supermarket costume, green mask kind of Frankenstein. He managed to take the monster and transform him into a lady, a sorbet, sugary one (thank you, Mr. Kane, thank you for keeping those colors alive). Biker jackets were paired up with ladylike garments, sheer inserts and embellishments were held together by what looked like a sort of fabulous black, duct tape (in a very Victor Frankenstein fashion), even the simplest of the looks had that dark but subtle twist.

The color palette went from pastels to soft shades of gray and the textures, we’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.  For the accessories, the sandals looked almost like hardware, delicate hardware (if that is even possible and if it is, get me the number of that hardware store). Overall, a masterpiece. Oh Mr. Kane, you just make it so hard not to adore you. The critics may agree with me on this one, he is the star of LFW (even if my beloved Mr. Saunders may be hurt by this remark).

LOOK OF THE DAY

Well, I can’t stick to pastels and neutrals forever… I came up with this look thanks to the fabulous, Balmain inspired jacket. I added some boots and the crossover shorts to put more edge to it. The Givenchy clutch just belongs there, there’s no doubt about that!

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

It’s a wrap! Two down, two to go and then we will be moving on to MFW. Tomorrow’s Friday!

Sweet kisses…

The Goodbye Summer / Hello Fall Mash-up: Pajamas and Baroque

Hello, hello my sweet readers! Another day, another mash-up post. August is almost over, Fashion Week is almost here and Fall is really catching up with us quickly. Three reasons why we need to get our closet ready for a month full of events, I like to call it September the Beautiful. This is the fourth post from the series, we still have two more to go and we are done. Today I have a Spring trend that drove crazy all the fashion world, pajamas. I also have the trend that seems to be driving everyone crazy as we speak: baroque (seriously, D&G, you are killing us with some lovely and fashionable showers). Let’s start, shall we?

  • THE TREND: Pajamas
  • Season: Spring 2012
  • As seen in: Stella McCartney, JW Anderson
  • Key wardrobe pieces: the pajama shirt, the printed loose pants, the slippers

Dubbed by everyone as one of the best collections of the season (along with Jonathan Saunders, Peter Pilotto and my candy coated Louis Vuitton), Stella McCartney’s lavish pajama kingdom is definitely one to remember. No wonder all the retailers later followed with their own pajama sets. From Zara’s perfectly tailored, printed pants, to Theory’s silky shirts, wearing pajamas has never been more fun!

The selection: Shirt, TUCKER / Pants, DVF / Top, J. CREW / Slippers, OSCAR DE LA RENTA / Shorts, ADDITION by THAKOON

  • THE TREND: Baroque
  • Season: Fall 2012
  • As seen in: Dolce & Gabbana, Balmain
  • Key pieces: The clutch, the dress, the shorts

Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana have been just killing it since Spring 2011 (who could forget the white Broderie Anglaise mania or the fresh produce prints from Spring 2012), now they swept us off our feet with their opulent and beautiful work of art. Baroque is everywhere this season and for a girl like me (my motto in life is “more is more”) I couldn’t be more happy! So embrace the lavish, embrace the gold, embrace the details, embrace Baroque.

The selection: Cardigan, RIVER ISLAND / Tank top, ALEXANDER McQUEEN / Bangle, RIVER ISLAND / Slippers, MIU MIU / Box clutch, ALEXANDER McQUEEN

I know, I now, I am not that much into black, but the leather, silk and baroque mix is my match made in heaven. I put together a flirty and romantic (with a touch of dark) look. Te lining on the pajama shirt fit in perfectly with the printed cardigan and the ruffle skirt. The bag was just the cherry on the cake!

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

That’s it for today! Tomorrow’s Friday! Who’s excited?

Sweet kisses…
