The Goodbye Summer/Hello Fall Mash-up: Scarf print and white

Good morning, my sweet readers! I’m up early, with my cup of coffee while it rains outside (God, it’s the best feeling in the world). Today I’m heading back to the city, leaving my gorgeous piece of seaside paradise and I have for you the second entry from our Summer/Fall mash-up. Scarf print was definitely my weakness this season, ask the Versace-esque Zara selection inside my closet and the whole article I wrote on this trend. Nowadays, mixing and matching prints is a must but since foulard-inspired garments are so beautiful to look at, I paired it up with a minimal Fall trend: white. Let’s see how this two trends clash together:

  • THE TREND: Scarf print
  • As seen in: Thakoon, D&G, Versace, Derek Lam
  • Key wardrobe pieces: Button-down shirt, smart shorts

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, both masters when it comes to all things sexy and dramatic, came up with this homage to the foulard for their final D&G collection for Spring 2012. The result: one of the freshest and most beautiful collections of the season. Who knew scarves could be used in so many ways? Anyway, after the Italian duo, retailers followed. From River Island’s sexy cropped tops to H&M’s flashy colors and prints, this trend was everywhere and thank God for it!

The selection: Pants, RIVER ISLAND / Dress, ROMWE / Top, DOLCE GABBANA / Shirt, DOROTHY PERKINS / Foulard, ROMWE / Skirt, D&G / Shorts, H&M

  • THE TREND: White
  • As seen in: Proenza Schouler, J. Mendel, Alexander Wang, Maison Martin Margiela
  • Key wardrobe pieces: tailored pants, cable-knit jumper, blazer

For Fall, white is the new black (at least that’s how I, the black hater, likes to think about it). Seasons ago, no one would’ve thought white would become such a strong color for the dark season, but since fashion is all about the unexpected, the white, Fall eagle has landed. Whether is a white total look (good luck staying clean) or just a garment, you must rock this color in the coming season. Why not start now?

The selection: Pants, STELLA McCARTNEY / High-tops, ASH / Tuxedo blazer, MANGO / Pumps, CHARLOTTE OLYMPIA / Shorts, ACNE / Jumper, MANGO / Ring, MANGO / Collar, KARL / Blouse TOPSHOP

SCARF PRINT + WHITE LOOK

Using all white for the rest of the look does enhance and focuses the attention on the print.  The mustard and red accessories give the whole ensemble that navy, old school Moschino touch. For arm candy, a gold overload completes the outfit to perfection.

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

Have a great day!

Sweet kisses…

The Goodbye Summer / Hello Fall Mash-up

Cover: Prada Spring 2012 bodysuit, Marc Jacobs Fall 2012 hat

Hello, hello my sweet readers! It’s finally Friday and I’m happily stranded on my little piece of paradise, commonly known as Acapulco. Days at the beach are always good for the spirit, the body and the mind (especially when you need to get that creativity flowing). Anyway, back to what concerns us today, fashion. Since we are done with our Summer Getaways series and this season is coming to an end, I decided to bid farewell to S/S 2012 and welcome A/W 2012 at the same time, mixing them up and pairing them up. Oh yes, this series shall be baptized as the Goodbye Summer / Hello Spring mash-up. You might be wondering how I’m gonna handle and juggle them both, well let me explain. I picked six of my favorite trends from Spring 2012 (the ones that almost left me and you almost bankrupt, damn you Zara!) and six of my favorite ones from the coming season, Fall 2012. Now that I have my teams formed, I’m going to make the pairings. For each Spring trend, a Fall one. One look, two trends (one S/S and one F/W). Hey, anything to make this transition easier. Let’s start with my Summer picks:

Last Spring (2011 that is) I said: “This is my favorite season ever, and I won’t like another one as much as I liked this one”. I was wrong. On September 2011, I fell in love (I think the runway candy coating had a lot to do with it) and yes, this was my favorite season ever and we’ll see if on September I’ll bite my tongue again (I most likely will). From the pastels, to the underwater world, to the pajama land, each and every one of the trends were to die for. Here are my favorite six:

PASTEL COLORS: Almost every runway show of the season did it: Louis Vuitton, Prada (pictured), Jonathan Saunders, Meadham Kirchhoff

SCARF PRINT: D&G (pictured) said goodbye to the world with this spectacular, foulard-inspired show

NEON: From dresses, to jeans, to shoes and box clutches, neon was everywhere this season. Peter Som (pictured) and Nanette Lepore were among the designers who showcased the trend.

THE PEPLUM: Need I say more? Jason Wu’s (pictured) pink number was among the most coveted looks of the season.

TANGERINE: It was officially named the color of the season. This sassy look was spotted on the Nanette Lepore catwalk (pictured).

PAJAMAS: Stella McCartney’s prints and shapes made her one of the top collections of the season (along with Jonathan Saunders, Peter Pilotto and Proenza Schouler). Is that reason enough to start wearing pajamas? I’d say so.

I had always been a sucker for Spring and a Fall hater, up until the moment designers started using vivid colors and prints for the “darker” season. Seeing those lively prints, shiny textures and lightweight fabrics on the Fall runways, make me wish for it as much as I yearly wish for Spring. Here are my six favorite trends from Fall 2012:

BAROQUE: If more is more, then I’m absolutely in. Opulence ruled the catwalks for the coming season and no one does that better than my favorite Italian duo, Dolce Gabbana (pictured).

OXBLOOD: Remember how Tangerine Tango was the color of the season. Well Oxblood is the new Tangerine Tango. This seductive shade was everywhere, from DVF and Alexander Wang, to Rodarte (pictured) and Haider Ackermann.

FLORAL PRINT: Yep, let’s face it, whether is Spring or Fall, whether it rains or snows, flowers will always be on the trendy side. Erdem (pictured) is quickly becoming the floral master.

GOLDEN GIRL: More is more and the shinier the better. That’s my motto in life. This season brace yourself for those metallic jeans and those heavy and shiny dresses. One of Prabal Gurung’s (pictured) final numbers is proof of that.

LINGERIE: A trend that just keeps coming back and that gets constantly reinvented. A constant in Nina Ricci’s (pictured) Peter Copping’s collections.

WHITE AS SNOW: Absence of black! Absence of black! Another motto of mine. Imagine how thrilled I am to know that I’m gonna be going for white coats instead of dark ones this season. J. Mendel (pictured) shows us how to look fabulously chic and effortlessly perfect with this white and wintery look.

Now that you’ve seen my picks, you can help me do the pairings. Which Spring and Fall trends would you like to see together?

Friday, I wanna be drunk!

Sweet kisses…

SWEET’n’RAW DOES CHICTOPIA vol. 5

It’s Wednesday already, only two more days till Friday! As you already know and I have already told you a million times, I am contributing as a Fashion Editor for Chictopia’s blog, Everybody is Ugly. I always have a blast getting this babies ready for you to read and it really makes me happy to receive all your lovely comments, likes and shares.

For this week’s article, I really wanted to address a trend that I love so much: the scarf trend. I had never been a D&G fan until now (too bad is was the last runway for Dolce & Gabbana’s second line), but that scarf collection was among my S/S 2012 top five. Those picky and fabulous Italians sure know how to work the foulard. So without further ado, here it is:

3 Ways To Wear Scarf Print

It was many years ago in Milan when Designer Gianni Versace made the scarf his signature style. Those late 1980’s ads with Linda and Naomi, all covered in extravagant printed silk, tight bustiers and lavish safety pins became milestones in the history of fashion. Then, his golden years became his legacy to the brand. The golden Medusa, the chains and the baroque shirts gave the Italian house a strong character and a unique identity.

Somewhere along the way, the trend’s glory days were gone and a drug lord and his mistress picked them them up. Yes, the scarf shirt along with the chunky Rolex, the heavy gold chain and matching gun became the ultimate “narco bling”. When a trend goes criminal (or guido) a comeback is highly unlikely, but like the phoenix or the shoulder pads, it has now risen from its ashes.

Thanks to Donatella going back to her family’s roots with the Versace for H&M collection and Dolce & Gabbana’s last D&G runway, scarf print is back and better than ever. The last show for the Italian duo’s second line marked the end of an era, and they decided to bid farewell with an overwhelmingly beautiful and colorful homage to the foulard. Not only was their collection memorable, but proof that with scarves, possibilities are endless.

Whether you go for a bohemian approach, a 70’s vibe or a dressy style, we should all try it at least once. Here are three different ways to style the scarf print trend!

DENIM DIARIES
When different trends (crochet, scarf, cropped top, boyfriend shirt, tangerine) unite for a Bohemian result.

Silk shorts, KOOKAI
Crochet bralet, TOPSHOP
Boyfriend denim shirt, ASOS
Buckle wedges, ZARA
Messenger bag, ZARA
Bangle set, FOREVER 21
Wire bracelet, TOPSHOP
Buddha bracelet, TOPSHOP
Arty ring, YSL
Bazooka nail polish, ESSIE

TRENDY TWEED
A soft colored jacket can definitely make a scarf print pop. It doesn’t get cuter than a pink, blue and cream color combo.

Scarf tunic, RIVER ISLAND
Skinny jeans, ZARA
Jacquard jacket, ZARA
Nude belt, ZARA
Delta pumps, NASTY GAL
Quilted bag, MARC JACOBS
Rhinestone friendship bracelet, DOROTHY PERKINS
Circle chain bracelet, WHISTLES
Love bracelet, ACCESSORIZE
Ring, VIVIENNE WESTWOOD
Rose Abstrait nail polish, YSL

MONOCHROMATIC MADNESS
Monochromatic is one of the biggest trends of the season, why not mix it in with the scarf style?

Retro print dress, ROMWE
Chiffon blazer, NASTY GAL
Hot pink sandals, ZARA
Yellow frame clutch, ZARA
Chain bracelet, MADE
Beaded bracelet, TOPSHOP
Lion bangle, ASOS
Ring, ZOE & MORGAN
Pink statement necklace, FOREVER 21
Indian Pink nail polish, TOM FORD

Works for Spring, works for Summer… Let’s get scarf’d!

What did you think? Are you going to try this trend anytime soon? Speak up, I’m here to listen (or read).

Sweet kisses…

MAN UP! The Tux Jacket

Hello, hello my sweet readers! Remeber last night’s post about the fabulous tuxedo trend (click HERE to read it)? As I promised, this is the first of three posts from our series. We needed to start big and to do that we had to go with the jacket. The tux jacket is one of the most resourceful garments a guy or gal can have inside the closet. There was a time when only men wore it and on special occasions, it was long, long ago. Today, tuxedo blazers come in every shape, size, color and material one can imagine. So let’s start with a selection of blazers you can find online:

STORE SELECTION

1. Tibi  2. D&G  3. Rag & Bone

4. Maison Martin Margiela  5. Jason Wu  6. Elizabeth & James

7. MCQ Alexander McQueen  8. Emilio Pucci  9. Topshop

LOOK OF THE DAY:

Browsing through my last outfit posts, I noticed that is has been a while since I posted an outfit for a night out. Naturally, a jacket is the perfect excuse for that. For this time, I chose a tuxedo blazer from Nasty Gal. I paired it up with a low neckline blouse in peach, also from Nasty Gal. For the bottom part, shiny disco ball is all we need. This sequin pants are from IRO and you can find them over at MY WARDROBE and on sale. Enough with the booties and tights, let’s just throw on some sandals. This nude beauties are from Miu Miu.

For the bag, a touch of vibrant is perfect for our look. Elie Saab has a colorful selection of purses. I went for a dark turquoise, box clutch. For jewelry, a black pendant from ASOS and two rings from River Island: a black one with stones and a zebra one. For the final touch, classic Chanel Le Vernis in Jade Rose.

You ready to party, even though it’s Monday? Now you have what to wear next time you go out with the girls! Hope you like it and have a great week.

Sweet kisses…

PS: We still have the pants and the shirt, be sure to check back!

A/W OBSESSIONS: Leather Essentials

Happy Halloween my sweet, sweet readers! I hope you had a blast this weekend with your fabulous costumes, here at Sweet’n’Raw we had also a great time preparing those holiday theme posts we published before. Now it’s time to get a bit more serious, Fall serious that is. Going around the city today, I noticed the beautiful trees in shades of orange and yellow and as leaves begin to fall and Autumn is calling our name, our wardrobes have to be not only ready but perfect for the current season. Yes, I am a self-proclaimed leather lover, I would wear leather pajamas and knickers but that would be rather prejudicial to my pores. I consider leather to be very resourceful, it also has the power of twisting and pumping up any outfit! There was a time when leather was for jackets and boots, nowadays we can even find it on bikins and in different shades (I’m a sucker for pastel leather garments). So for fall, you have to have at least one of the following inside your closets, trust me, you’ll thank me later.

Pencil, mid-length, skin-tight mini, pleated or a personal favorite, the A-line are some of the styles you’ll be able to find in your favorite shops this season. The color? With black you can never go wrong, Cognac is the color of the season and Navy blue just because it’s lovely! From left to right:

Shorts have become a must in every girl’s wardrobe, floral, lace, denim, you name it, they make them that way. Leather shorts are wearable in both seasons. You can pair them up with a breezy top and sandals for Summer or throw a heavy knit sweater with biker boots for Fall. A pair of highwaisted shorts in your closet? Always! From right:

Now this is one garment that wasn’t that popular in leather until this season and it’s a personal favorite. It all started with the leather bustier and it evolved so much that now you can find it in many styles:  the button-down, the one with panels (this season and the next is all about panels), cropped, sleeveless, long sleeved and more! From left to right:

Fancy pants? Sexy pants? Leather pants! Ask any guy out there what is the sexiest garment a woman can wear (lingerie does not count as streetwear, ok?), he is gonna answer leather pants for sure. Not only do they accentuate every bit of our gorgeous and womanly figures but they are show-stoppers and head-turners. From right to left:

The leather dress can be a big hit when the fit is perfect, the material is flattering and the shape does not make you look like you just cut some holes into a trash bag. It is not harsh, you can pull off a romantic look with a leather dress when you pair it up with the right accessories. From left to right:

A biker jacket is always one of the best investments a girl should make. It doesn’t matter if you pay a bit more, you are not getting just a jacket. You are getting a classic, you are getting the chic factor, you are getting the one item that you can wear over and over and  without wearing out the look. It’s so versatile, it has become a need. From right to left:

There you have it! All the leather you are gonna want and you are gonna need for this fall! Check back this week for the outfits I have put together with each and everyone of this garments!
Hoping you have a great week, sweet kisses…

MFW Coverage: Prada’s hot wheels and Donatella’s mermaids

My sweet readers, it all happens so fast in Fashion Week that is almost impossible to keep up (I’m about 4 posts behind). I’m trying my best and working my butt of to make sure you get your reviews and all the scoop from Milan and Paris (I already gave you a pretty decent coverage of New York and London). My city has gone back to normal, all the madness is now in Paris (my body could not join, but my mind certainly did). Back to what concerns us today, Milan and another fabulous Fashion Week.

Each fashion capital has a personality of its own. New York is hip, London is eclectic, Paris is elegance and drama, and Milan, Milan is all the glitz and glamour any sequin junkie could hope for. And this year it was that and more. Those italian big names showed us why they are so big in the fashion world! So lets get right to the point, here for you, our first five reviews and your look of the day.

FENDI S/S 2012

Hey lady, how about some stripes? Mr Lagerfeld’s girl for the next season is chic and femenine. With a playful and an easy to wear collection, the designer made us forget about that sexy-in-lace stereotype of the italian woman and say hello to a no less italian one that’s fresh and elegant, but not over-the-top. It was all about the A-line skirt, the wide-legged trousers, the shift dress, the trench and last but not least, the skirt suit. Almost everything with stripes, the only print of the show. The color palette: red, white, navy, neutral and black. It was polished and classy but with a twist (hello cut-out shoulders, knitted sheer panels and those oversized goggle glasses).

D&G S/S 2012

It was the last collection for the italian duo’s second line and also the end of an era. And you know what? Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana made sure we remebered their last D&G show. For me, they hit it out of the ball park. It was a color explosion, a mix & match game. It was the 70’s, it was hippie chic, it was lavish, it was sunny, it was pure fun. The main star, the scarf. It was on every garment and everytime with a different usage, a different color and perfect execution.

Flirty sundresses, tight or with halter necklines, short shorts and mini skirts paired up with loose blouses or bandeau tops. It was like a printed, silk parade, even the shoes were made out of scarves. Tons of leg, tons of sexiness and glamour, after all that’s what Dolce & Gabbana is all about. The result: memorable, just like they intended it to be.

FRANCESCO SCOGNAMIGLIO S/S 2012

It was bold, it was dramatic, racy and a somewhat romantic. The italian designer sure does know how to handle lace. Evening gowns and suits in black, white an nude flooded the runway last Wednesday in Milan. There was not one garment that didn’t have at least one hint of sheer. The ruffles and giant peplums were all over his S/S collection. It had eccentricity written all over, and that’s what Francesco Scognamiglio does best.

VERSACE S/S 2012

It’s a big year for the italian house. With the H&M collection hitting the stores on November, Versace was expected to give a great show this Fashion Week. And dare we say Donatella Versace did a fine job. With a soft color palette and sea inspiration, the italian designer’s models seemed like mermaids, fresh out of the water and on to the catwalk. Big industry names, such as Lindsay Wixson (we forgive her catwalk stumble just beacuse she looked stellar) and Daphne Groenveld, strutted the runway with long and flowing manes and sky high platforms.

Structured, neoprene shorts paired with cropped, fitted jackets and bandeau tops, mini dresses with movement and pencil skirts. And of course, Versace’s legendary and red carpet worthy display of evening gowns. Arizona Muse in a sky blue revealing number, our Lindsay covered in studs and a starfish embellished Abbey Lee Kershaw, great finale for a great brand. All the glitz and glamour that can only come from Versace. And as for that H&M thing, you will find my fabulous self camping outside the store freezing my also fabulous cheeks (butt cheeks that is).

PRADA S/S 2012

This right here ladies and gentleman is the one show to beat at Milano Fashion Week. Season after season, the genius behind Prada, Signora Miuccia, seems to always deliver. She has become that annoying kid from school who always snags the honor roll. This year was not the exception, from the first to the last look, the italian designer had everyone including myself drooling. Rember the Prada stripes effect from S/S 2011? The Mary-jane boot effect from A/W 2011? Well this year it’s the same with her “Flaming Hot Rods” collection.

It was car meets girl. Leather skirts with automobile designs, also pleated and girly ones, crocheted garments, oversized coats with beautiful jeweled belts, flower printed bodysuits and that dress, that yellow printed number that stole my heart away. For accessories, there is no doubt she always scores in this department. Next season everyone will want to have the bag with the car or those fabulous 50’s sunglasses. For sure Miss Anna dello Russo will get to sport them first. There is no doubt in our minds that Miuccia Prada likes to always come first, this season’s theme just confirmed it!

MFW LOOK OF THE DAY

You know what MFW means right? You need to go all out! And that’s exactly what I did for the outfit. I have a weakness for sequins and when they are attached to hotpants, it is hot mess for me, hot, hot, hot. I chose a red violet, high waisted pair. Since the shorts are already flashy enough and there is a lot of leg action going on, you might want to avoid the cleavage, For that reason I chose a white button-down shirt, but not just any shirt. To keep on the shining, this Miu Miu blouse with navy blue sequins on the collar is perfect! To cover up a bit of derriere, unless you want to cause traffic incidents, a simple, classic trench coat is mandatory. I love how the traditional clashes with eccentricity.

For the shoes, the outfit would not be complete without a pair of huge Louboutin pumps. This emerald green ones are definitely worth its price.

For accessories, Sweet Sophie would dream… Yes, it’s a Birkin, a beautiful purple Birkin. And since I have this bag only in my dreams (for now), any other purple handbag will do. For your beautiful hands, YSL’s Arty ring and McQueen’s skull one (both classics and must-haves). Throw in some gemstone earrings, this ones are from Juicy Couture (keep it simple, don’t go all chandelier on me!). Last but not least, if there is something that drives me crazy: YSL’s La Laque in Ultra Violet.

Voilà… First post about MFW as promised. We still have to go over Ferragamo, Miu Miu, Dolce Gabbana, Versus and more. Now you know you have to come back to check the rest, right?

For all the details on today’s look, remeber to click here to go to my Fashiolista list.

Wishing you a fabulous week, sweet kisses…

IN YOUR CLOSET: Heels, part 2

If you have been checking in, you have probably realized I haven’t posted anything in the past days. I was in a far away land, with no internet connection. But I am back, this time bringing you the second part of what to me are other must-have styles for the current season. After dissecting (more than once) L’Officiel, Elle Collections and Vogue Collections, magazines that cost 25 euros, very well spent (my boyfriend is still shocked that I am willing to spend this amount on paper), I came to the conclusion these were the most showcased styles on the Milan, Paris, NY and London runways.

FLOWERS IN THE WINDOW

As seen in: D&G

Obession, that’s how I feel now and how I will feel about flowers in fashion, ALWAYS. Also, and it suits me just fine, flowers are all over the season. Now that the cold winter is over, now that the sun is burning our legs while trying to wear a pair of jeans, begging for shorts, like the dessert misses the rain (ha!), flowers are showcasing themselves. Just look around, even the tiniest plant is in fashion, with flowers all around. Obviously, if they look good by themselves, they are going to look even better parading on our feet.

  • Karmenaf flower pumps, Steve Madden, $129.95
  • Floral t-straps, ASOS, $73
  • Flower embellished platforms, ASOS, $97
  • Floral print wedges, River Island. $113

I SEE COLORS IN THE AIR

As seen in: Pierre Hardy

You are probably tired of me speaking about color blocking and bright hues. But I have to, it’s the strongest trend of the season. Jil Sander, Gucci, Dior, you should be familiar with this by now. Indulge in it, enjoy it, play with it like you did when you were little with a box of crayons. This is the time to exploit it. A coulpe of months from now, when the season is over, you shall not have any regrets from when you bought that pair of canary platforms, or those hot pink wedges. Fashion it’s all about getting spotted, and noticed. So this trend is the perfect excuse to go mad and wild with color!

  • Tricolor suede wedges, Carvela, $242.50
  • Purple platform pumps, River Island, $113
  • Green with envy sandals, Carvela, $242.50
  • Yellow ankle straps, Zara, $98
CUT HERE
As seen in: Louboutin
No, this is not a conventional strappy sandal. Think of it as a piece of leather with holes cut in it. Made in a particular way so the pieces of skin are shown in a hide-and-seek kind of way. It’s like a puzzle, where the remaining pieces are parts of your feet. Sexy peek-a-boo, that’s what I like to call it. Satin, leather, even laser cut, find the pair that goes the most with your ways.
  • Idore cut out sandals, Novushoes.com, $145
  • Python platform sandals, Carvela, $161
  • Satin cut out sandals, ASOS, $72
  • Camel slingback sandals, ASOS, $75
LACE & LEATHER
As seen in: Dolce & Gabbana
Va va boom! Nothing says sexy like a piece of lace. Lace can often be defined as a banner for women, for femeninity. You wear a lace dress, you will definitely get heads turning. It’s the fabric, with a little bit of see-thorugh, that gets that effect. So, like a recipe, sheer lace, with some leather and a sky-high heel that elongates the leg, you have got a winner. Wether you choose a bootie, or a peeptoe, even a pump, you can never go wrong. Ladylike but always sexy, Lace is a timeless classic, that when transformed into heels, Ladies and Gentleman, we’ve got a winner.
  • See-trough lace pump, Zara, $70
  • Peep tpe platform pump, Zara, $70
  • Satin & Lace bootie, ASOS, $72
  • Lace black bootie, BEBE, $160
WITHOUT THE PRETTY PINK RIBBON
As seen in: Moschino
Oh the ribbon! Oh the bow! And on shoes? Oh my lord! Creating the illusion your feet have been wrapped in a perfectly chic gift confection, this type of shoe not only embellishes your feet, but your ankles seem to be lost in the bow paradise. The ankle bracelet doesn’t seem enough. The lace ups go feeble. The ribbon front tie is the way to go. Found mostly in a platform or wedge, this style is must-have for the season. So wrap it up!
  • Navy scarf heel, Diane Von Furstenberg, $280
  • Gingham & floral wedges, ASOS, $161
  • Tan and floral wedges, New Look, $40.50
  • Floral espadrilles, River Island, $81
I hope you liked my S/S choices for shoes and I sure hope you are making some space in your budgets to get one of these styles. And for those ladies that are more into flats, stay tunes for my post, IN YOUR CLOSET: flats. I personally like to wear both, heels and flats, so if you are like me, check back to read on the best flat styles for the season.
