WANNA POLKA? The Dress

Good afternoon my sweet readers! Here it is, the fourth post of Sweet’n’Raw’s polka dot series! It’s time for the dress. I could have done the whole dressy & glamour thing, but instead I wanted to show you how I do the dress as a skirt thing: one of my favorite things to pull off these days. But first, here’s a selection of spotted dresses you can find online to start dancing polka:

DRESS SELECTION

THE CREAMY: 1. Sonia Rykiel 2. Topshop 3. Marc by Marc Jacobs

THE BLACK: 4. Dorothy Perkins  5. Lulu & Co.  6. AX Paris

THE NAVY & THE GREEN: 7. Topshop 8. Suzannah 9. Topshop

LOOK OF THE DAY

Using dresses as skirts is definitely a way to reinvent your wardrobe and make it more resourceful. By throwing over a jumper or a shirt over a simple dress, you can transform it into totally new and fabulous ensemble. For this post, I chose this cute and flippy sundress from TOPSHOP. Mixing summery garments with winter wear is another way to have fun with your clothes. I layered a cream cable knit jumper over it with navy details (you can also find it at TOPSHOP). For this chilly days, I chose this beautiful, double lapel, burgundy coat from ASOS. Why I love it? The fitting is perfect, so perfect it allows what you are wearing underneath to be seen as well. Since we are still on bare leg quarantine, I chose this beige tights with a velvet finish, also from ASOS. Since this outfit is casual chic but more on the cute side, I believe some t-bar shoes are in order. This pair of suedee beauties can be found on ASOS.

When it comes to accessories, we need to keep it cool and laid-back. What better way to achieve that than with this gorgeous messenger bag from purse expert, Rebecca Minkoff. We already have the cable jumper, why not add a cable knit beanie? This one is from United Bamboo at La Garçone. For your hands: a vintage looking peacock watch from ASOS, a bow ring trio, also from ASOS and last but definitely not least, from the Daphne Guiness for MAC fabulous collaboration: Blueblood for you nails!

Ready to strut your stuff in a polka dress made skirt? I sure am, that is, of course, when I get back to the cold and cruel Winter in Milan. Right now I am enjoying my last days in Mexico, with my family. Sad to be leaving, but happy for all the things that are coming my way this year!

WANNA POLKA?

Well, hello my sweet readers! Me posting about this trend was absolutely inevitable. It’s been a while since polka dots and I began our love affair (I have a ridiculously large collection of high-waisted shorts with spots and trust me, it wasn’t on purpose). Spotted is often synonym of girly, unless you go all Dalmatian on me, then it’s Cruella de Vil all over. The reason why I love this trend is because it always has a certain retro feeling to it. It’s also always flirty and on the sexy Lolita side. This fall retailers are carrying all kinds of polka: soft colored, leather, burgundy, chiffon, you can even find it on coats. That is why, over the next couple of days I will be presenting to you six looks, all of them trendy and of course, all of them spotted.

AS SEEN IN:

  • Shiny schoolgirl, Yves Saint Laurent PFW F/W 2011
  • Remarkably retro, Marc Jacobs FWNY F/W 2011
  • Sexy and sheer, Stella McCartney PFW F/W 2011
  • City chic, Diane von Furstenberg FWNY F/W 2011

Are you excited? Now you have a reason to come back and check us out! Six polka looks await you!

Sweet kisses and spot on!

Flashy Fancy Pants: COBALT

Finally Friday fun my sweet readers (not so much for me, I’m stuck at home in bee mode)! After seven colorful posts, we have reached the end of our Flashy Fancy Pants series. Without further ado and last but definitely not least (this was among one of the most used colors on the Fall 2011 runways), I give you the always electric, show-stopping and head-turning Cobalt blue.

AS SEEN IN: Yigal Azrouel, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Thakoon, Karen Walker

THE LOOK

A flashy color like Cobalt calls for some fireceness and that’s exactly what I tried to achieve with this outfit! You are the judge, did I pull it off? My bottom of choice were this skinny trousers from ASOS, I love the fit and also the fact that they are perfect to show off a killer shoe. I have to be honest about the top, it was the inspiration for the whole ensemble. This tiger sweatshirt from Nasty Gal is as cool as a sweatshirt can get. No need to tuck it in, it just falls perfectly on top of the pants. For the shoes and to finish off that GRRR factor, Aldo leopard, pointy pumps which can be found at ASOS.

For the bag, let our jaws drop together and let’s drool all over our keyboards with another one of Mr. Alexander Wang’s masterpieces, the Rocco, now in Yellow Citrus (the Gollum inside me is desperate to hold it and scream “MY PRECIOUS!”). For accessories, one of my favorite watches (watches to me are like bracelets, that’s why the cheaper the better), Casio’s Gold pleated one. It’s retro, it’s fun and it’s gold! Ok, I am starting to feel possessed by Gollum. I added a knuckleduster spiked ring from Bling Deenie to keep on having fun with the whole ensemble. You can find the ring at Farfetch.com. And for the dark twist, Butter London’s Union Black Jack nail polish.

You likey? I kind of love it!

That’s a wrap everyone! We are dunzo with the bright pants! Now it’s time to practice!

I wish you a lovely weekend!

Sweet kisses…

Flashy Fancy Pants: JADE

The weekend is almost here and we are almost done with our Flashy Fancy Pants series, 5 down and one to go after this post. Milan’s getting colder and colder by the second but the great thing is we still get to wear bold, bright colors thanks to this season’s trends! I have prepared for you a look in Jade, this color is not only beautiful but also flattering, the effect against the skin is amazing (I’m so pale right now that maybe some Jade can save me from being mistaken for a corpse).

AS SEEN IN:  3.1 Phillip Lim, Yigal Azrouël, Vanessa Bruno, Hermes

THE LOOK

Cheery and cozy, two words that are constantly on my mind when Fall’s cruelest wind and cold hit my lovely bones. I think this ouftit reflects just my state of mind, don’t you? For this jaded look I chose a pair of skinny pants with low rise from Nasty Gal. Since the temperature has seriously dropped, a playful jumper is in order. This is one of the cutest sweaters ever and you can also find it over at Nasty Gal, God how I love this store! Over this lovely garment, we need some hair. And yes, I am now obsessed with hairy coats (as you can see, I acquire new obsessions daily) so this beauty from River Island is just the thing! I know that this is a laid back ensemble, but to make it more chic we need some heels and this belted booties in tan from Modcloth.com seem both comfy and cute.

For the bag, there is only one purse in my world that can offer that effortless chic vibe when sporting casual ensembles, the Balenciaga City in this gorgeous shade of bright powder blue. For the accessories, this beautiful deer skull pendant and a double knuckle ring in Teal, both from Modcloth.com. For the final touch, give your nails a hype with MAC’s Hot’n’steamy Pink nail polish! J’adore!

To all those Americans reading, Happy Thanksgiving and to the rest of us, why not give thanks too for all the blessings we get to have!

Sweet kisses…

LEATHER ESSENTIALS: the shorts & the trousers

It’s fun Friday my sweet, sweet readers and also the second outfit post from our Leather Essentials series. You can click HERE and HERE to read the previous ones. My mind here at Sweet’n’Raw is on full fall mode, and may I say that even though I am a completely S/S person, I am adoring this current season more than ever and all the fashion props we are getting to play with! Today is leather bottom day, I have for you the shorts and the trousers. And to make everyone happy, one of the looks is more on the casual side and the other one is perfect to hit the town on a Friday night like this one. Let’s start, shall we?

THE SHORTS

It has been all aboout shorts these past few seasons and this one in particular, high-waisted, leather shorts are so in trend right now. That is why for this next ensemble I chose this fabulous pair from TWENTY8TWELVE you can find on stylebop.com. I paired it up with a sheer, black tank from Neeed Supply. You must tuck it inside the shorts and as we always say, a black bra with good coverage is absolutely needed, nipple slips are just unforgivable. For the coverage, this season is all about Navajo and wrap cardigans. This warm beauty with woodland prints is from ASOS. Since a little thigh flashing on fall is not crazy, a pair of over the kneee socks can make your outfit cute and chic with a hint of sexy (guys love everything that is over-the-knee). I chose a burgundy pair from ASOS to give the outfit a pop of color. For the shoes, it’s always a Jeffrey Campbell thing for this kind of outfit. This platform wedges in tan can be found on NastyGal.com .

For the bag, I chose this fabulous Miu Miu hairy tote, it’s a winter dreamboat! For the jewelry, an ASOS owl pendant, YSL’s Arty Dots ring and Topshop’s leather clamp with a chain. For some dramatic nails, OPI’s Got the Blues for Red is your way to go!

THE TROUSERS

Ready for some sexy and lavish outfit? Oh yes, for leather pants I really wanted to go all out! I picked out this skin-tight ones from ASOS, one of my happiest places on earth. I tucked in one of the loveliest and most beautiful blouses my eyes have ever seen, it’s sheer, it’s blush and it’s from Alberta Ferretti. And if that wasn’t enough, it’s on sale over at The Outnet. For a chilly night, a chic, chic cape is just what the doctor ordered. This one is from Birger et Mikkelsen and can be found at my-wardrobe.com. For the shoes, I had to do it, I’m sorry I had to. My latest obsession, my current object of lust, Alexander Wang’s Simona heels. Don’t you just adore them? seriously I’m two seconds away from robbing a bank to get them.

For the bag, to keep on splurging, Jimmy Choo’s snakeskin clutch. For your lovely hands, I wanted to break with the black and blush pattern, so I chose two teal rings, a skull one from TOPSHOP and the beetle one from Piperlime. And the vintage Chanel one just because I liked it. And for the final touch, get your nails some Cuckoo, with OPI’S Cuckoo for this Color. Sensual lips? Tom Ford’s Spanish Pink will do the trick!

For all the deets on this look, got to FASHIOLISTA!

There you go! Two more down, two to go! I wish you a fabulous and fashionable weekend! May you sleep till noon!

Sweet kisses…

LEATHER ESSENTIALS: The skirt & the jacket

I don’t know about you but rainy days make me über-productive, I have been sketching and drawing non stop! And you know what this means right? Tons of new posts and fashion coming your way, my sweet, sweet readers! For today I have some more leather! Remeber my last post, the one about the leather pieces you absolutely need to have inside your fall closet? If you don’t or haven’t read it, just click here to do so. Like your usual cooking recipe, after the ingredients come the directions, and in our very fashionable case: THE STYLING! So if you are ready to rock those killer pins in a show-stopping leather skirt or make that biker jacket of yours the star of your ensemble, keep on readin’ baby, keep on readin’!

THE SKIRT

This baby is no longer skin-tight and sexy, she has evolved into a more sophisitcated and chic version of herself. The leather skirt can now be found with pleats, volume, ruffles and other cute details never seen before in it. Taking this into consideration, I chose a Zara big seller, the pleated, leather mini (they also made it in blush, j’adore!). I paired it up with a duo I am loving right now, it’s kind of preppy chic, the sweater over the button-down. The blouse has a leopard collar which gives the whole ensemble a cute and wild kind of twist. The camel sweater from J. Crew has the perfect shape and fit to pull the look off! Since it’s chilly out there, I chose this “fake garter” tights, I am absolutely mad about them (a tip, get them while you still can). For the shoes, since it’s a bit too girly on the top, we gotta tone it down a bit. What better way to achieve this than with a pair of Alexander “the Master” (my master) Wang booties. Newsflash: this Constance boots are on sale over at the Outnet.

For accessories we have to go classic and classic means Chanel’s 2.55 bag in black. For jewelry, Topshop pearl clip-ons, a deep red ring shaped as a heart and the also classic Hermes enamel bracelet in black. For beauty, give your pucker some crimson with this Tom Ford lipstick and go for a high bun, you wanna show everyone your lovely earrings!

For all the juice on this look, CLICK HERE

THE JACKET

For the skirt I gave you cute, for the jacket I had to give you cool. Leather jackets have become must-have items, so here is one idea on how to put together a fun and laid-back, but always chic look. I chose this Zara python trousers, you should now know that python is all over this season. And since this is a very strong garment and we do not want the whole femme fatale look, by pairing it with a blush pussybow blouse and a v-neck gray sweater we add more freshness to the whole thing. And now to top it off, the leather jacket of your choice, I went with this one from Mango. For the shoes, a twisty detail. This Maison Margiela metallic oxfords took my breath away ever since I set eyes on them (for a nuetral junkie and a shiny disco ball spirit just like myself, that combo is just pure perfection).

For the bag, back to the Master. Mr. Wang’s Rocco Duffel in black. For accessories, a black spiked ring, a skull, cooper one and a gray bracelet fron Sence Copenhagen . For you beautiful nails, from Essie’s stunning collection, Cocktail Bling.

For all the dirty deets on this look, CLICK HERE

There you go! Two leathery looks for a leathery season. Four more coming up! Come back tomorrow to check them out and also, it’s still on the works but a big, big surprise is coming soon! Are you excited? I AM!

Hoping this rain will go away, sweet kisses…

A/W OBSESSIONS: Leather Essentials

Happy Halloween my sweet, sweet readers! I hope you had a blast this weekend with your fabulous costumes, here at Sweet’n’Raw we had also a great time preparing those holiday theme posts we published before. Now it’s time to get a bit more serious, Fall serious that is. Going around the city today, I noticed the beautiful trees in shades of orange and yellow and as leaves begin to fall and Autumn is calling our name, our wardrobes have to be not only ready but perfect for the current season. Yes, I am a self-proclaimed leather lover, I would wear leather pajamas and knickers but that would be rather prejudicial to my pores. I consider leather to be very resourceful, it also has the power of twisting and pumping up any outfit! There was a time when leather was for jackets and boots, nowadays we can even find it on bikins and in different shades (I’m a sucker for pastel leather garments). So for fall, you have to have at least one of the following inside your closets, trust me, you’ll thank me later.

Pencil, mid-length, skin-tight mini, pleated or a personal favorite, the A-line are some of the styles you’ll be able to find in your favorite shops this season. The color? With black you can never go wrong, Cognac is the color of the season and Navy blue just because it’s lovely! From left to right:

Shorts have become a must in every girl’s wardrobe, floral, lace, denim, you name it, they make them that way. Leather shorts are wearable in both seasons. You can pair them up with a breezy top and sandals for Summer or throw a heavy knit sweater with biker boots for Fall. A pair of highwaisted shorts in your closet? Always! From right:

Now this is one garment that wasn’t that popular in leather until this season and it’s a personal favorite. It all started with the leather bustier and it evolved so much that now you can find it in many styles:  the button-down, the one with panels (this season and the next is all about panels), cropped, sleeveless, long sleeved and more! From left to right:

Fancy pants? Sexy pants? Leather pants! Ask any guy out there what is the sexiest garment a woman can wear (lingerie does not count as streetwear, ok?), he is gonna answer leather pants for sure. Not only do they accentuate every bit of our gorgeous and womanly figures but they are show-stoppers and head-turners. From right to left:

The leather dress can be a big hit when the fit is perfect, the material is flattering and the shape does not make you look like you just cut some holes into a trash bag. It is not harsh, you can pull off a romantic look with a leather dress when you pair it up with the right accessories. From left to right:

A biker jacket is always one of the best investments a girl should make. It doesn’t matter if you pay a bit more, you are not getting just a jacket. You are getting a classic, you are getting the chic factor, you are getting the one item that you can wear over and over and  without wearing out the look. It’s so versatile, it has become a need. From right to left:

There you have it! All the leather you are gonna want and you are gonna need for this fall! Check back this week for the outfits I have put together with each and everyone of this garments!
Hoping you have a great week, sweet kisses…

Fall Couture 2011: THE MEMORABLE

Twice a year in Paris, we get to see more than fashion and trends, we get to see art on the runways. In those few minutes, the designers give us a piece of their genius, their hard work, drama, elegance, eccentricity, lavishness and luxuriance. Couture is not just a show, it’s art at its best. And this year was no exception, some of them blew our minds, some enriched our pupils, others made us swoon and drool, and others, well let’s just say we’d rather forget. But to my humble opinion there were three who exceeded my expectations.

First honorable mention goes to italian wonder, Giambattista Valli

A game of volume and flowing fabrics. Movement in colorful fucsia and red. Monochromatic floral and animal print embellished with feathers. Garments cinched with golden, baroque belts. Overall, a gorgeous collection, but also a fun one. Fun to watch, would have lots of fun wearing. Lovey Signore Valli.

Sweet’n’Raw’s favorite looks:

A standing ovation to the man of the hour, Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy

Godesses in gold and white. Heavely bodies wrapped up in beautiful, crafted gowns. Mr. Tisci showcased 10 angel looking beauties, among them my favorite brazilian bombshell, Iza Goulart. White, gold and sheer reigned in Paris for the show. Embrodiery, handwork, lots of it, beading, and more. An exquisite technique that can only belong to the master of darkness, the gread Riccardo Tisci.

Sweet’n’Raw’s favorite looks

Better than ever, Azzedine Alaïa

He has always dealt with fashion his way, he has always done fashion setting his own times. He doesn’t believe in pressure. And this is the result of how he creates. His first Couture in eight years, and it was a great one. Fur, croc-stamped leather in coats, coat dresses, each garment perfectly crafted and tailored. A standing ovation at the end was expected and well deserved.

FRONT ROW ROYALTY

For more Couture and some sunny posts, check back tomorrow. From Acapulco,
