Hello Spring!

spring96

Tomorrow we officially welcome the prettiest seasons of the year (even if thanks to Mexico´s lovely climate, I have been wearing shorts and sandals for about three weeks now), Spring! It’s time to get those heavy coats and boots inside some boxes and start wearing lighter and cheerier clothes. I know, I haven’t been posting as much as I usually do, but there is an explanation, something I will be able to reveal to you soon (hopefully). In the meantime, I’m celebrating the warmer weather and in a week or so, my birthday. Yes, another year, another candle burning (I have to confess that each year I get less excited, Sophie Pan is kind of taking over). Anyway, back to what concerns us today: Spring has sprung and I couldn’t be happier about it! What’s your favorite season of the year? You already know mine!

HAPPY 3rd!

3rd96

Three years ago, while living in the lovely city of Milan, I decided to take a jump. It was a jump I had been wanting to take for a while but somehow kept putting it off and off and off: opening my own blog. Thirty six months ago, after much thinking, I published my first blog post. 1095 days have gone by and Sweet n’raw is still here and keeps growing and growing. It has been an evolution, not only when it comes to content (I have killed many of the sections I used to do and created new ones) and blog design, my illustration is completely different (it now has a signature of its own), my writing has evolved and I, the author and brains behind Sweet n’raw, have changed a lot.

What hasn’t changed is Sweet n’raw’s philosophy, I’m happy to say that we have stayed true to ourselves, the blog and yours truly. We curate meticulously every detail, every trace, every word. We publish only when we have quality material ready, it’s not only about generating more traffic, it’s about offering our visitors what they are used to getting from us. We cherish every single one of our readers. We celebrate each time we get a new like on the FB fan page (we also think buying likes and followers is extremely sad). We are not interested in going viral if it’s not for the right reasons and we are definitely not sell-outs who settle.

After this obnoxious, self-praising and righteous monologue comes the most important part, the thank yous. And in the form of an award ceremony speech (that was self-absorbed, I just gave myself an imaginary award), I want to thank the people who read me, who like my posts and the ones who take the time to write the most beautiful and encouraging comments (my Aunt Marité especially, my most avid and precious commentator). To the city of Milan, we loved each other without question and even though we knew our affair wouldn’t last forever, but it changed us (the “you can never go back to way things were” kind of change) and we will remember it for the rest of our lives. To the people who inspire me everyday, you know who you are, you are not that many (I’m a little picky when it comes to sharing my love). And to my mom, my greatest blessing and the most skilled to ever walk this Earth, everything I am I owe to you (the good part of me at least).

Happy 3rd B-day Sweet n’raw! Let the cake and the champagne come our way (well, not the cake, we are kind of cutting down on carbs at the moment).

Wishing you a great week,

A Modern Day Dorothy

dorothy96

I know, I know, I’m supposed to be covering the frenzy that is Fashion Week right now, but time is not on my side here. I’ll be doing it little by little, in case you are still interested. But now let’s go to today’s image.

The first time I saw the Wizard of Oz when I was a kid, I immediately fell in love with the slippers. Who cared about the lion that talked, or the Good Witch of the North’s sparkly princess gown, or the yellow brick road, I could only focus on the magical and glitzy pair of heels.  Dorothy’s red, glittery slippers quickly became top of the list when it came to Christmas and birthday wish lists. But my mom wasn’t gonna gift her child a pair of red, shiny heels so I used to get Keds instead. Then came the discovery, a pair of silver glittery pumps inside my mother’s closet. Naturally, those became part of my outfits whenever we played pretend. I was about 8 so they obviously didn’t fit but I walked around the house all the time like a waddling duck in my mom’s magical silver slippers. It never was about the color, it was about the glitter, until now. Dorothy’s red slippers and my mom’s silver heels have morphed into a new aspirational item, a pair of pink glitter Miu Miu pumps and trust me on this one, now that I’m old enough to buy them for myself, I will (as soon as I find $650 bucks lying around somewhere).

Wishing you a great week!

The Bag Bucket List: BIRKIN

thebirkin“The Bikin costs how much? $15,000 for an orange bag? What’s it made of? Gold? You know you can buy a car with that kind of money right? Jesus, I can buy a knock-off for a 100 bucks out of a little Chinese guy’s trunk on Canal St. and nobody could tell the difference. Waiting list? Auction? Why one Earth would I put myself through all of that when I can run to the nearest Macy’s, get a Michael Kors tote and save a lot of time and money?”.

If you have once said the statement written above, we know you were lying. It doesn’t matter if you are fashion savvy, or if you are a collector or if you wear Crocs and shapeless chinos to work, deep inside, you really, really want a damn Birkin bag. To some, it may be about the status. To others, it’s all about collecting works of art (each Birkin is made from the beginning to the end by a single pair of hands, from the cutting of the leather to the last finishing touches). And to most of us, there’s just one simple reason, it’s pretty, it’s top quality and it looks so good. The Birkin is the prince charming of bags, only this French luxury dreamboat actually exists.

Why is it on my bucket list? Becuase when I finally get to purchase it, it will be a clear sign that I’ve made it in this world (yes, a French leather bag lies on top of my success-o-meter). Because it is an investment, it will last forever and you can treat it like an ordinary Old Navy tote. In fact, treating it like a work of art displayed at the museum is tastless. Woman, it’s a bag (ok, a $15,000 bag), not the DaVinci Gioconda. It was made to be worn! And then there’s the color matter, they make the most exquisite shade of pink and green, and blue. Everyone will tell you, if you are to buy one, buy it in black or tan. You will never get tired of a timeless color and you can wear it with almost everything. Me? I would go for the brightest and cheeriest color, the Blue Lagoon, the Rose Jaipur or the Blue Izmir. Happy Birkin, happy Birkin owner, right? Is the Hermes Birkin part of your bag bucket list?

SWEET FEBRUARY

sweetfeb96

January, one of the coldest and saddest months of the year (you know, the holiday season aftermath, when your bank statement is just sitting on the counter, unopened, waiting to choke you with debt), is finally over! And we are welcoming one of the loveliest months of the year, February. To be honest, my favorite month of the year has to be March. In March, we say hello to Spring and yours truly was born. A second favorite is definitely July. Why? Summer! Need I say more? And third in my list is February. Why? Because of my Rana’s birthday (my beautiful Schnauzer who makes life better, who can brighten up even the darkest day), Fashion Month (why of course), Valentine’s Day (not that I am a fan of this sappy holiday or that I really celebrate it, but it’s an excuse for stores to sell all kinds of pink and pretty things and an excuse for me to purchase them) and last but definitely not least, this baby’s third birthday. Yes, Sweet n’raw will be turning three years old on February 24th and I am truly proud and happy of what I’ve created so far. This three years have been a beautiful reminder of why I decided to start a blog and how much love I have for what I do.

So welcome February, I know you will be a good one!

THE SOPHIE DOODLES

sophiedoodles2

I’ve been doing the character doodle thing for a while know, I’ve done Coco Chanel, Marie Antoinette, Holly Golightly and many more. And then it dawned on me, if I’m a character (a very complex character), why not do a doodle print about little Sophie?

So first I drew myself, my “after the curling iron” self. My “after the shower” hair is messier, curlier and a little bit hectic (but the rack is real, I do have those boobs). I chose the color palette, now that was a no-brainer: powder pink & blush pink forever. About my choice of accessories, I have a thing for toe-caps, pointy pumps with NO PLATFORM, all kinds of shoes (with no platform) as long as there’s animal print involved and shoulder bags in neutral tones. I love pink lips (not flashy and hot but pastel and natural), Agent Provocateur and white wine. I would say macarons are my third favorite dessert, cookie dough is my first but it’s not that pretty to draw or look at. Last but not least, I have a serious obsession, bunny slippers. I’ve never owned a pair, I’ve never found a pair, but as soon as I do, I’m not planning on taking those off.

So there you go, Sophie’s doodles, Sophie’s all-time favorite shit, Sophie’s very pink and powdery world. You likey?

The Bag Bucket List: CITY

cityI’ve never been a fan of the Balenciaga City, not because I don’t like it, but because it became an aspirational bag. You know, the bag every girl wants to have or already owns but wants in every color and size. I’m not saying I hate trendy stuff (half of the content in this blog are new trends and styles), I just don’t like overrated.

I have a bucket list, a bag bucket list, a list of bags I’m gonna buy, own and wear someday (someday soon I hope). My number one has always been the nude Chanel 2.55, a classic that will never go out of style and since it’s vintage Chanel (not those ghastly hula hoop things Uncle Karl has been doing lately), you can never go wrong . My second one is a new entry, the LV Vivienne. Never been a fan of Vuitton, but that little shoulder bag just stole my heart (and it doesn’t have the annoying monogram print). The list goes on and on and on and it keeps growing. And recently, that overrated Balenciaga city made the list and got its illustration. Why? Because they made it pink and little (remember my love for those little bags?), and who can say no to a pretty pink bag? Not me, that’s for sure!

SHALLOW SOPH: Enjoy the little things…

littlethings96

Shallow Soph is back, more superficial and sharper than ever! Here she is:

Someone once said that good things come in small packages. I have always disagreed with the statment, I’m a fine package but I’m not bottle sized, I’m quite tall actually. My shoe closet is filled with good packages (all from Giuseppe, Gianvito and Jimmy) but I’m a 9 1/2, that doesn’t qualify as small. I like wine, I like the six bottle box better than the bottle alone. Now is the time for you to agree with me, not all good things come in small packages. In fact, most good things come in big-ass (my ass is not big, it’s actually petite) packages.

But as in all things, there’s an exception (or two, or three) to the rule: The smaller the bikini bottom, the better my petite bottom will fit. Jewelry, now that’s a good small package. Tiny liquor bottles and perfume ones, they always come in handy. And last but definitely not list, the bags. You like yours oversize? Then you haven’t seen the mini versions and you are really missing out. They are tiny, they are pretty and absolutely delightful. You know, like a cupcake, only they last forever and they don’t make you fat. So my advice for you:

“Enjoy the little things in life”.

(The Little Vintage Chanel, Little Hermes Kelly, Little LV Vivienne, Little Celine Luggage Little Pashli, Littly City Balenciaga  and Little Valentino Lock).

Have a great weekend y’all!

Oh Paris!

oh paris

I’m an “obsession du jour” kind of girl, new day, new obsession. But there are three constants in my life, the color blush, the pastel palette and Paris. I know, I know, I’m a walking cliche and you know what? I also have a thing for cliches. Lately, I have been transforming my doodles into prints and patterns. You’ll never get digital, vivid or abstract from me, I’m old school, I’m hand-drawn and I like ironic and fun. So I whipped up this little Paris poster, because Paris (in real life, in a dream, in a drawing, in a picture, or in a dress) is always such a good idea!
