The Bag Bucket List: BIRKIN

thebirkin“The Bikin costs how much? $15,000 for an orange bag? What’s it made of? Gold? You know you can buy a car with that kind of money right? Jesus, I can buy a knock-off for a 100 bucks out of a little Chinese guy’s trunk on Canal St. and nobody could tell the difference. Waiting list? Auction? Why one Earth would I put myself through all of that when I can run to the nearest Macy’s, get a Michael Kors tote and save a lot of time and money?”.

If you have once said the statement written above, we know you were lying. It doesn’t matter if you are fashion savvy, or if you are a collector or if you wear Crocs and shapeless chinos to work, deep inside, you really, really want a damn Birkin bag. To some, it may be about the status. To others, it’s all about collecting works of art (each Birkin is made from the beginning to the end by a single pair of hands, from the cutting of the leather to the last finishing touches). And to most of us, there’s just one simple reason, it’s pretty, it’s top quality and it looks so good. The Birkin is the prince charming of bags, only this French luxury dreamboat actually exists.

Why is it on my bucket list? Becuase when I finally get to purchase it, it will be a clear sign that I’ve made it in this world (yes, a French leather bag lies on top of my success-o-meter). Because it is an investment, it will last forever and you can treat it like an ordinary Old Navy tote. In fact, treating it like a work of art displayed at the museum is tastless. Woman, it’s a bag (ok, a $15,000 bag), not the DaVinci Gioconda. It was made to be worn! And then there’s the color matter, they make the most exquisite shade of pink and green, and blue. Everyone will tell you, if you are to buy one, buy it in black or tan. You will never get tired of a timeless color and you can wear it with almost everything. Me? I would go for the brightest and cheeriest color, the Blue Lagoon, the Rose Jaipur or the Blue Izmir. Happy Birkin, happy Birkin owner, right? Is the Hermes Birkin part of your bag bucket list?

NYFW FALL 2013: The Trend Report

New York Fashion Week ended a week ago (a long time when it comes to the Fashion Month) and left a bunch of trends behind. As we are getting ready to welcome a new season (thank God Spring is just around the corner), we also get to discover what will be in store for us next Fall. Remember, in Fashion, we are always one step ahead. For Fall 2013, New York went back to basics. After a few seasons of surprises (Fall collections that looked more like Spring ones and vice versa), the Big Apple gave us old school, heavyweight, cold weather fashion. No need to mention the regulars, as they are not considered trends anymore: leather and fur were all over the Fall 2013 runways. Moving on to the novelties, designers really went the extra mile this time. They toned down the prints, but they really payed special attention to tailoring and textures. Mash-ups will be the next big thing next Winter.

As I mentioned before, this is a very different coverage from my previous ones. I wanted to focus more on the trends and on the shows that really made a statement than on reviewing single shows. Here’s a recap of the trends that walked the New York runways last week. Ready?military

Spring 2013 Trends: SPRING LEATHER

spring leather cover

It’s almost Friday, my sweet readers and I finally got to see the sun after many, cold and cruel days of thunder. Couture week just wrapped up, NYC is getting ready for the Fashion Week kick-off and as February approaches, so does Spring (I can’t way to put away those heavy coats and get some decent color on my ghostly legs). We are halfway through with our Spring 2013 report, there are so many fabulous trends to cover and I plan on giving you an extensive and detailed coverage of each and every one of them. This is the sixth post from the series and one that I personally adore: LEATHER.  It’s been a while since leather took over the Spring runways (years ago, we only got to see this beauty on the Fall catwalks) and each season, we get positively surprised by the designers and their take on it.

For the coming season, possibilities are endless. There’s the trouser mania. Not your usual black, leathery leggings, but slouchy pants, tapered ones, joggers, neutral colors, bold shades. Dresses: a beige leather dress paired up with a floral jacket or an embroidered cardigan is a must! The barely there garments: whether you choose a pair of drawstring shorts, a sexy bodycon mini or some naked sandals, you’ll be rocking those legs all the way! Perforated leather garments are pure works of art so score one while they are out there! Last but not least, light leather outerwear can add a fabulous twist to your breezy, Spring ensembles.

  • Ferragamo / Jason Wu / Versace
  • Mugler / Giles / Miu Miu

MUST-HAVE PIECES: The nude jacket, perfect companion for those Spring, windy nights. The trousers, worth investing in them. The barely there, leather sandals (sexy as hell). A leather top, a fun twist for your daily outfits.

  1. Biker jacket, Belstaff
  2. Shorts, Drome
  3. Texture shirt, Tibi
  4. Oxfords, Robert Clergerie
  5. Top, Mason by Michelle Mason
  6. Dress, Theyskens’ Theory
  7. Sunglasses, Linda Farrow
  8. Sandals, Chloe
  9. Two-tone tote, Rochas
  10. Zipper trousers, Emilio Pucci

  1. Jacket, Chicnova
  2. Shorts, Topshop
  3. Top, Monki
  4. Pencil skirt, All Saints
  5. Dress, Topshop
  6. Pants, Vero Moda
  7. Oxfords, Zara
  8. Bag, Romwe
  9. Heels, Asos

Digging leather for Spring? I am loving it! It’s almost Friday, hang in there!

Sweet kisses…

MFW COVERAGE: Electric Kane

Monday, never a fun day, my sweet readers! After a weekend of non-stop party, it’s hard to go back to work and study duties. How about a fashionable distraction? Today I have for you more runway reviews from Milan Fashion Week (I know, I know, I’m a tad late). We are one step closer to concluding the coverage, we still have Paris to review and Paris, as our dear Audrey Hepburn said, is always a good idea. Ready to start?

Thomas Maier’s genius has made Bottega Veneta one of the most expected shows in MFW. For Spring 2013, his inspiration was clear: the ladies from the 1940s. The hemlines were midi, the prints and textures had a certain nostalgia to them. Maier payed special attention to the waist, accentuated with skinny and adorned belts. The color palette was vast but always keeping that retro feeling: burnt orange, cream, navy, off-white, navy blue. As for accessories, the famous Intrecciato got the Spring treatment, tights were found on each and every one of the ensembles and loafers, ankle-strap pumps and platform Mary-Janes accompanied the looks.

For seasons, Miuccia Prada has been having a winning streak. She always gets raving reviews, her garments are featured on almost every cover and her accessories always seem to be sold out. That is why I can’t believe what I’m about to say, I have mixed feelings about her Spring 2013 collection. I still don’t know if I like it, I still don’t know if it will grow on me and maybe it’s me that’s wrong, but I’m not crazy about her Japanese interpretation. She gets some points for changing her once perky game into a darker and bolder one. As I said before, Mrs. Prada was all about Asian inspiration and her color palette was simple: black, dark green, red and some neutrals. Her signature, boxy coats made it on to the runway, embellished with floral patches.

Underneath them were hot pants, another signature look from the Italian designer. The runway was a skirt parade: volume numbers with pleats, asymmetrical cuts and structured panels. The dress range went from simple to complex (the folds were obviously origami inspired). As for the shoes, Miuccia has a thing for going all out (still can’t get the flame heels out of my mind). For the show, her own rendition of the Japanese sandal: XL platform, metallic textures and bows. I know it will be photographed a zillion times starting January, it was just not my cup of tea.

Editors around the world were expecting this event for a long time. After Raf Simons’ departure (a tragedy, I loved him at Jil), we all had the same thought: “Jil Sander has some big-ass shoes to fill.” Simons has always had de magic touch, he can make the simplest of t-shirts look flawlessly perfect. Enough with the Raf grief and on to Mrs. Sander. It is safe to say that the Spring 2013 collection kept going in the same direction: clean lines, structured shapes, minimal and oversize garments. The color palette was basic: navy, black, cream, crisp white and a hint of maroon. It was elegant and simple, but we can’t help but miss past season’s paisley prints, graphic sweaters and volumes. I guess we’ll just have to refrain from comparing her to Raf.

Now this picky Italians always know how to cheer us up. After a bunch of shows that made us feel more Fall than Spring, Domenico and Stefano washed it all away with a wave of Summer. As always, all their inspiration came from their beloved Sicily and its sensual women. Prints were as artistic as artistic can get, their signature lace was inserted in all the right places and the umbrella stripes (Spring’s biggest trend) were poured into fitted garments and shapes. It was an ode to the Sicilian culture (the Taormina dress kind of gives it away).

A-line skirt, hourglass dresses and embellished mini dresses were all paired up with bandanas, tassel earrings (yeah, we won’t mention the “mamie” earrings controversy, people just get offended with just about everything this days. As for the Azealia Banks “boycott” threat: “Honey, I don’t even think they know who you are, let alone care if you like their collection or not, you self-centered idiot.”). The thing about this designer duo, they send out about 80 looks down the runway, some are more reserved, some are definitely over-the-top. But there’s always something for everyone, almost everyone (right, Azaelia Banks?).

First of all and worth mentioning, having Beth Ditto singing live as a soundrack is always bound to get a lot of attention. Second, when you have Christopher Kane to design for you, you can’t go wrong. Third, a bright and flashy color palette can only make things better. For this season, Kane focused on textures and hardware, chains were present in almost every one of the looks. The patterned knitwear was meticulous and eye-catching, the hems were short, really short. The footwear? worth the splurge. The result? Fantastic!

All black may sound boring and uninteresting. But all black when doing leather on leather is not only sexy, but bold. Pairing up a peplum with skin-tight leggings is always bound to be a hit: stylish and flashy, but not over-the-top. To make things racier, red accents all the way.

For all the details on today’s look, go to Fashiolista.

So far, what has been your favorite show from MFW? I’m gonna go with Versus, I’m a sucker for Kane!

Sweet kisses…

Sweet n’Raw does Chictopia vol. 11

Never, since I started the blog, had I gone sans posting for more than 10 days. I broke my record, I did 16 and I blame it on the wi-fi. I’m not gonna give you 1000 excuses, I’m just gonna make it up to you. I still have a bunch of runway reviews (even if posting them seems a little out of time) and new trends and series in the oven. Today I have for you another one of my Chictopia collaborations. They gave me the topic and this is what I delivered. Hope you like it!

The Hottest Ways to Wear Leather This Fall (Plus Extra Leather Essentials)

There’s no summer without sun, there’s no fall without leather. That is an unquestionable truth. Leather may have made the leap into the S/S collections a few seasons ago, but there is no doubt that when it comes to A/W, it is definitely the king.

When it comes to leather, just when you think you might have seen it all, along comes a new season. For Fall 2012, leather was a constant in almost every collection presented on the runway: Valentino made it ladylike, Thakoon injected some color in it, Tibi went all shiny disco ball and tired of wool, and Marni made coats out of leather. Craving to get some leather goodies this fall? Here’s all you need to know!

→ As seen in: Valentino
1. Top, Maje 2. Cardigan, Marni 3. Shorts, Haute Hippie 4. Ankle boots, Burberry 5. Trousers, J Brand

It may sound dangerous, it may sound bolder than bold, but layering leather over more leather is one of the strongest trends this season. No, we are not asking you to look like you just got lost from the Sons of Anarchy set. No, we are not asking you to raid the Undertaker’s closet. No, we don’t want you channeling the Village People’s leather dude. And no, there is not a handbook on how to pull it off and how to avoid that Matrix Reloaded look. There may not be a formula, but here are some tips that can help us along the way:

- Go for solid garments. Textures, embroidery and embellishments may book you a ticket to the land of tacky, where Snooki is Queen.
– It’s not mandatory to go all black, you can color-block. Try putting together shades with a similar intensity: rusty with rusty, bright with bright, neutral with neutral and so on.
– Go for feminine or simple shoes. Thinking of adding a chunky boot? That’s Sons of Anarchy all the way.
→ THE LOOK: We put together a jersey top with a leather peplum and a pair of skintight leggings. To add more drama, a statement pendant and a pair of black pumps with multiple straps.

→ As seen in: Thakoon
1. Bag, Proenza Schouler 2. Jacket, Balmain 3. Skirt, Karl 4. Dress, Richard Nicoll 5. Ankle boots, Chloé

The Summer nostalgia is always around, no more leg flashing, no more lightweight fabrics and welcome heavy garments. What better way to cheer us up on those gray and gloomy days, than with a pop of color. We all know that a good, black biker jacket is an all-time wardrobe basic and that those black liquid leggings are a Fall must-wear. But we also know that in Fashion, you gotta think outside the box. And there, outside that box, is where we will find some fabulous and show-stopping colored leather. From bright pink leggings and bottle green jackets to royal blue shift dresses, leather just got a bright and fun makeover this Fall.

- You can choose to color-block (it doesn’t get better than a pair of bright blue pants and a pink blazer) or you can go for mute shades to make your leather item pop.
– Colorful, leather accessories can be the perfect twist for your outfit.
– A pair of Oxblood skinny pants or a bright biker jacket are staples for your closet this Fall.
– Don’t be afraid of adding fun details. Leather can be strong, but sometimes, just the right amount of leopard can make the whole thing work.
→ THE LOOK: We paired up the Oxblood leather pants with a Western embroidered shirt (another big trend this season thanks to the always chic, Isabel Marant). It’s an interesting contrast and the leopard slingbacks just make the ensemble more fun.

→ As seen in: Creatures of the Wind
1.Circle, Markus Lupfer 2. Colored, DKNY 3. Mini, Mango 4. Pleated, Miu Miu 5. Pencil, E Luxe

Forget about the bodycon leather skirt that has been hanging inside your closet for years now. New shapes, lengths and styles are in the house! The pleated one was already a bestseller last Fall (raise your hand if you are the proud owner of the Zara version) and this season, it’s making a comeback. The circle skirt is both edgy and feminine at the same time and pencil ones just scream sexy. The colored and metallic versions are fun twists to classic black. And last but not least, a leather mini is always welcome!

- With leather skirts, possibilities are endless. You can go for a button-down and a blazer for a clean and dressy look. You can pair them up with a t-shirt and Converse for a casual ensemble.
– A match made in trend heaven: mini skirts and graphic sweatshirts. Sweatshirts are the new black.
– For the shoes, add some edge with a pair of booties.
→ THE LOOK: A simple look with some special details thanks to the studs from the skirt and the graphic print on the sweatshirt .

1. Coat, Marni 2. Skirt, Balmain 3. Sweatshirt, DKNY 4. Top, Maje 5. Trousers, Mango

- Leather coats: Whether is long and black, fire red and glossy, a trench or coat with leather accents, you are going to want one of this babies hanging inside your closet.
– Quilted leather: Balmain mastered the art of quilting for Fall 2012 and while a lucky few can afford their $3,000 skirts, we are just as happy with Zara’s version of them.
– Combined garments: A sweatshirt with leather sleeves? A skirt with leather panels? Garments with a texture combo are a must-have this season.
– Leather trousers: From Cavalli’s leggings to Theyskens’ Theory’s slouchy pants, the Fall 2012 runways were flooded with leather bottoms.
– Metallic leather: Shiny leather? Need we say more?

Which leather trend is your favorite this Fall? We love and want them all!

Well good Tuesday, my sweet readers! I’m writing to you from my bed, with an excrutiating stomach ache, but hey, work has to be done right? After a couple of sans post days, I’m back to deliver the fourth of my Spring Leather series. Today we are going to be talking about the leather skirt, an item that got so popular last season (we all got our cream or black, elastic waisted, Zara pleated skirt) and that stuck around for this one. Spring leather is always more fun, whether you go metallic, pastel, neon or even basic black, you are in for the kill if you style it right. Here’s the selection of skirts you can find online:

TOP: Oasis Stores / Topshop / Marc Jacobs

MIDDLE: Chloe / Marni / Stephen Sprouse

BOTTOM: Karl Sachi / Monki / Miu Miu

I’m back to pastels, this time mixed in with leather (coincidentally, pastel and leather are my two all-time obsessions). This look is cute, it’s flirty and it’s comfy, dare to try it out?

All details from today’s look can be found at FASHIOLISTA

We still have one leathery post on the works, then I’m gonna start tackling Summer trends. Bikini season is just around the corner (I’m seriously considering a Jersey Shore fake tan, I look like a steamed dumpling) and Sweet’n’Raw has all the fashion scoop.

Sweet kisses…

Before temperatures reach boiling point, leather pants are a sexy way to flatter you legs without actually showing them. Let me tell you something, men go crazy for women in leather pants. Are you ready to take yours out to play? Here’s a selection you can find online!

TOP: J Brand / J Brand / Curent Elliot

BOTTOM: Roberto Cavalli / Joseph / Notify

I wanted to go a little bohemian, hence the lace and suede. I rarely wear black, in fact, it’s my least favorite color, but when it comes to leather pants, black is definitely my favorite.

  • Carry on nail polish, ESSIE

We are halfway through with this week, time flies my sweet readers! Today I have for you the second part of our Spring Leather series. I have been obsessed with leather for a while now, everything I design has to always have at least a hint of it. Leather shorts are resourceful and cool, you can wear them in Spring with a sheer top and sandals, on fall with some tights and a jacket and even on Winter with a pair if boots. If you ask me, a caramel shade has to be inside you closet (I can guarantee, you’ll wear them out). Here’s a selection you can find online:

LEATHER ESSENTIALS: the top & the dress

Hello, hello my sweet readers! I’m back again with the last of my “Leather Essentials” posts. This time is all about the top and the dress, two items that are very in trend right now and that you can find in almost every shop. Leather is a powerful fabric and like all things powerful, it has to be used right or you can risk of ruining the whole ensemble. So here for you today, two more looks for you to try out!

Sleeveless, long or short-sleeved and even strapless, it doesn’t matter as long as it looks good and it fits right! For this occasion I chose a black short-sleeved top from Pied a Terre. I tucked it in some maroon tailored shorts from TOPSHOP. I love the color and the print is absolutely adorable (they come with a braided belt, but since the coat we used already has one, you might as well keep it inside your drawer this time). For your body coverage, I threw on this lovely skirted-belted coat form TOPSHOP. As you probably have already seen, burgundy is one of the top color choices for the season. For this chilly days, your legs are gonna need some warm aid, that’s why this knitted tights from TOPSHOP in cream are the perfect choice. For your feet, Topshop’s oxford booties, beautiful and affordable!

For the bag, they are so good I always go back. This fabulous Mulberry Bayswater Heritage satchel in pheasant green is absolutely amazing. For the accessories part, an all-time favorite of mine, fingerless gloves in tan! They are perfect for the outfit and they are simply fabulous! For the last rays of sun, Oliver Peoples Emelita square sunnies. For the final touch a couple of studs from Marc Jacobs and always a classic for your nails, Chanel’s Black Satin.

Want the details on this look? CLICK HERE!

Leather dresses can be tricky but they can also be very fun to style. For this look I wanted to play down the garment. I didn’t want a dressy, dressy result, I wanted a more laid-back one. This flirty mini dress is from Zara, I don’t think it’s available for purchase anymore but you can find similar ones at H&M and Forever 21. To tone it down a bit, this ASOS oversized cardigan is fabulous. I have a crush with cable knit so when I saw it, it was love at first sight. Since it was a bit sunny today, half bare legs with some socks seemed like a good idea, this ones are from ASOS. For the shoes, it is always important that the style goes well with the whole sock thing. I chose this Steve Madden Leopard ones, they are like a mary-jane/peep toe/wedge hybrid. I love them!

For accessories, the always dreamy Proenza Schouler PS1 Medium bag, a ring trio: from ASOS, the ball & claw, the eagle head and the arrow stacked ones from TOPSHOP. For your nails, Deborah Lippmann’s Bitches Brew.

For all the details on this ensemble, CLICK HERE

That’s it, now you know all the leather you need to have in your closet to go through this season looking absolutely fab! Have a gorgeous weekend!

Sweet kisses…
