London’s Finest, part 1

LONDON1

Paris Fashion Week is about to end and with it, what has been a wonderful Fashion month. As promised, I’m trying to keep up with my posts and to give you the best coverage I can. This is the second post about LFW. I’ve already given you the trends, it’s time to review the best shows of the bunch. London is always a pleasant surprise, new talent, new designers, new trends, new everything. I  have chosen eight runways, four for today and the top four for tomorrow. Are you ready to rumble, London style?

simone rocha

She is part of the brilliant and really talented wave of new designers based in London. With each show, she keeps on growing and she keeps on getting better and better. For her Fall 2013 collection, she decided to open up with a series of powerful pink numbers, the kind of pink that’s bound to get some heads turning your way. After the pink came the black, the mellow yellow and of course, more black. Her silhouettes were sharp and structured, her details were meticulous and precise, but more importantly, her clothes were fun and whimsical. She focused on the textures: faux fur, patent leather, tweed and even cotton.

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD

I’ve always considered myself a Vivienne Westwood fan, not only because of her clothes but because I just love her whole persona. After her Red Label Fall 2013 show, even more so. Shapes had a retro feel to them and the colors were as bold as the sexy silhouettes. She mixed electric zebra stripes with tartan and stripes. She paired those fancy colored tights with metallic heels and cobalt pumps. Every model sported wild doll makeup that clashed beautifully with Dame Westwood’s clothes. Overall, it was fun, it was eye-catching, it was pure Westwood.

MULBERRY

Mulberry never disappoints, the clothes are always wearable, trendy and pretty darn cute. For this season, Emma Hill took plaid to a whole new lever, gorgeous one. The color palette was perfect for Fall: burgundy, navy and olive green played beautifully with cream and salmon (I’m still drooling over the salmon coat and the burgundy trousers). As for the shapes, knits were oversize, pants were cropped, shoulders were supersized and the layering was spot on. As usual, the cute poodle made it on to the runway and the bags were a big part of the show. The highlight? The all-leather combos, especially the green one.

GILES

What’s not to love about Giles Deacon’s theatrical ways. His clothes are always dramatic, they always tell a story. For Fall 2013, Giles dreamy presentation went from light to dark. He has Kristen McMenamy as his show opener, in a floor-length, white silk gown with oversize sleeves. Then came the metallic details, oh so decadent, oh so goth! The textures and prints clashed beautifully with each other: silks and laces, laser-cut leather. Even though wearable is not really in the menu when it comes to Giles, seeing his works of art on the runway is always a pleasure. Too bad the award season is now over, that golden leaves dress would’ve been a hit at the red carpet!

What was your favorite show from London? Drop me a line! Wanna discover what were my top 4 shows? Check back tomorrow!

Sweet kisses…

Spring 2013 Trends: SOLID CANDY

CANDY SOLIDS COVER

Happy Monday (if there’s such thing), my sweet readers! Today I have for you the fourth part of our Spring 2013 Trend Report special and a much needed one. Europe’s in the middle of a cold and snowy streak so the hope of Spring is the ultimate pick-me-up. And while we are locked up inside our homes, wrapped in blankets, keeping safe from the rain, we can get a little ahead of ourselves and start planning our seasonal purchases.

For today, it’s all about solid and bright. Yes, some designers went all dark and somber in their Spring collections, thankfully, others remained true to what the real essence of Spring is: bright colors, happy prints and lightweight fabrics. One of the strongest trends of the season are candy solids, colors that can definitely make an outfit pop. Remember how two Springs ago we had bold color-blocking and last Spring we had pastels galore? Solid candy colors are in between: strong mint, salmon, powder blue, bubblegum pink.

WHO DID IT?

  • Christopher Kane / Mulberry / Tibi
  • Gucci / Pringle of Scotland / Marni

You can candy color-block (now that would be a sweet sight for sore eyes), you can add a bright hue to a neutral palette or you can mix it and match it with prints and different textures. The choice is yours!

MUST-HAVE PIECES: A couple of candy-colored, silk button-down shirts, a pair of salmon tapered trousers, a mini shift dress in a bubbly pink shade and sweet version of a biker jacket or a blazer.

SPLURGE CANDY

  1. Blouse, Diane von Furstenberg
  2. Shorts, Valentino
  3. Top, 3.1 Phillip Lim
  4. Belt, Christopher Kane
  5. Sunglasses, Sheriff&Cherri
  6. Jacket, Emporio Armani
  7. Dress, J. Crew
  8. Necklace, J. Crew
  9. Trousers, Stella McCartney
  10. Sneakers, Opening Ceremony
  11. Bag, Mulberry
  12. Heels, Jimmy Choo

STEAL CANDY

  1. Sweatshirt, A.P.C.
  2. Button-down, Whistles
  3. Biker jacket, Vero Moda
  4. Sandals, ASOS
  5. Sunglasses, Henrik Vibskov
  6. Skirt, Topshop
  7. Crepe dress, Tibi
  8. Heels, ASOS
  9. Satchel, Modcloth
  10. Trousers, Topshop

Like the solid candy trend? Like my candy version of Willy Wonka? Let me read your thoughts and comments!

Sweet kisses…

Sweet’n'Raw’s Styling Sheets: BON VOYAGE!

The day is finally here, my sweet readers! Tomorrow I’ll be crossing the Atlantic before touching Aztec soil. Two times a year I get to visit my lovely country, that’s why Summer means so much to me. In spirit of tomorrow’s flight, I whipped up a styling sheet for those of you, who like me, are jetting off in the next few days. Airport style can be tricky. Some women have the misconception that “designer” comfort is allowed when travelling. Designer comfort for those tacky species means: velour Juicy Couture tracksuit, a pair of UGGs, the biggest sunnies on Earth(usually with the D&G or Versace logo in Swarovski crystals) and a big ass Louis Vuitton tote. This is the ultimate airport style sin, no matter how expensive your whole attire (adding the diamond collar on the Chihuaha named Candy Princess), you’ll always end up looking cheap. So yes, you need to look put together, but never over the top. A pair of stilettos and skin-tight clothes will en dup working against you after a 12 hour flight. Anyway, I’m gonna make this quick since I still have to wrap up the packing, the organizing and get a few hours of sleep before the departure. Here’s what I recommend:

AIRPORT LOOK

Chinos are my favorite bottoms when it comes to flying, comfy but never frumpy. Add some knitwear and a cute jacket, throw some killer sneakers into the mix or a pair of ballerinas and voila!

IN YOUR BAG

I think Mulberry bags or similar ones are the perfect travel companions. They have straps and handles for comfort, buckles and zippers for security and they lovely to look at!

Splurge: MULBERRY Alternatives: ZARA & VANESSA BRUNO

Last but not least, the bag essentials (usually I’m quite descriptive and witty with each item , but time is running out and I really need to get everything done):

1. MAKE ME PRETTY: After a long flight, a few touch-ups before leaving the aircraft are needed. Hey, if looking pretty and winking are gonna mekr the whole immigration thing easier…

  • Pocket perfume
  • Lip balm
  • Creamy nude lipstick (this is D&G)
  • Stila stick concealear (better and less messier than liquid ones)
  • Nars Orgasm blush and brush (peachy cheeks are rejuvenating)
  • Benefit brown eyeliner
  • Speedy brow form Benefit (a miracle worker)

2. FIX ME UP: Dehydration, smudges, bad breath and fatigue can all be beaten!

  • Pocket tooth brush (not even gonna comment on this one)
  • Avene thermal water spray (may sound snobbish, but it does help refresh)
  • Hope moisturizer from Philosophy (hydrates, protects form UV rays, HOPE is all you need)
  • Baby wipes (needed when least expected)
  • Ani-bac (let your inner Howard Hughes take over inside the aircraft)
  • Lip moisturizer

3. RELAX, TAKE IT EASY: I’m one who can’t really sleep inside buses, cars or airplanes. This is what I need.

  • Sleeping beauty eye mask
  • Earphones
  • Neck pillow
  • Cozy socks (also for security checkpoints, God forbid I walk barefoot while my shoes are on a plastic tray).
  • Sleeping pills (yes, I need them, don’t judge me)

4. LIFESAVERS: have them at all times with you, you’ll need them

  • Document leather envelope (passport, tickets, visas, money, your whole life)
  • Wallet (we are nothing without the dough, sad, but true)
  • iPhone
  • iPad
  • Tissues
  • Notepad and pen (paper and ink are always useful)
  • Water, lots of it (not the silly little glasses they pour you on coach)

I’m off to finish packing! Next time, I’ll write from Mexico City!

Sweet kisses…

SPRING LEATHER: THE SKIRT

Well good Tuesday, my sweet readers! I’m writing to you from my bed, with an excrutiating stomach ache, but hey, work has to be done right? After a couple of sans post days, I’m back to deliver the fourth of my Spring Leather series. Today we are going to be talking about the leather skirt, an item that got so popular last season (we all got our cream or black, elastic waisted, Zara pleated skirt) and that stuck around for this one. Spring leather is always more fun, whether you go metallic, pastel, neon or even basic black, you are in for the kill if you style it right. Here’s the selection of skirts you can find online:

You won’t be having a problem finding the one that suits you best, this season, floral skirts are to retailers, what bread is to a bakery. LFW COVERAGE: The ‘M’ World

After our much needed, NAIL FILES break, we’re back to runway. Our LFW Coverage has come to an end. This is the last post and the we’re off to my beloved Milano. London’s fashion is always so  new, so diverse and colorful, they are not afraid to play and have fun with their creations. You might be wondering about the title and it’s all about today’s line-up: Mulberry, Mary, Meadham & Moschino… Get it? Let’s start with the only non-M of the day:

ROKSANDA ILINCIC

Twisting the classics, that was what the show was all about. Let the embellished plaid explain it to you. It was a contrast between casual and elegant. Slouchy trousers, sheath dresses, oversized and beautiful coats and some sophisticated sportswear were among the elements presented by the designer in a wide variety of colors: fuchsia, cream, black, gray, blue and more. Some of the pieces were garnished with some large, furry shoulder pads and skirt hems were also embellished with the same material. The texture contrast was outstanding and the collection had a very easygoing vibe. Last but not least, it doesn’t get cuter than those ankle-strap shoes in pretty, pretty shades.

MEADHAM KIRCHHOFF

I am in love with this pair and that love will always keep growing if they keepp on going like this. Last season Meadham Kirchhoff’s collection was my favorite of the bunch and this one, they are definitely on my top five. Ever wonder where all sequins and glitter go to die? MK’s runway otherwise known as Disco heaven. Looking at the venue’s decoration, you could easily guess what was the theme of the catwalk: colored lights bouncing off the walls, rainbow paneled floors and disco music. The looks and pieces were so individual and particular that a trend or pattern, aside from the brights and disco, would be impossible to deduce. As always, their makeup and hair, just as their creations, had lives of their own.

MULBERRY

I refuse to address the presentation of the del Rey bag, inspired by that del Rey girl, so I’ll jut focus on the runway. The show was inspired by Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are and if you look at it with those eyes it really gives out that vibe: the earthy colors, the furry garments, the natural prints and those textured coats.

Each look had a touch of contrast, heavy materials paired up against softer ones (leather dresses with sheer, lace inserts, lightweight pieces with oversized fur ones and so on). For the first part of it, Emma Hill transported us to a day in the forest and for the second part, it all became dark, the forest at night. For the accessories, you can’t help but fall in love with the different colored, fold-over booties and those scarves that were cinched over the beautiful garments.

MARY KATRANTZOU

The goddess of prints, oh yes, that’s how I like to call Miss Katrantzou. I also call her the construction master. Put those two things together and what you get are beautiful works of art. This collection was proof of the designer’s growing confidence: the prints were bolder than ever, the colors more beautiful than ever and the shapes were pure poetry. Playing with silks, chiffon and even neoprene, it was a jaw-dropping, show-stopping from start to finish, display of fashion but above all, art. Bravo!

MOSCHINO CHEAP & CHIC

Cute, quirky, chic and pretty, that’s how Rosella Jardini’s fall 2012 collection was. It was the first time showing in London and I must say that for a first english impression, Moschino Cheap & Chic did rather well. Beauty and fashion merged into the cutest prints, 60′s style. The color palette was soft and femenine with a touch of brights. The lace and knitted patchworks blended beautifully with the rest of the show and the show’s mood. Each look was paired up with gorgeous and femenine pointy flats. It was all so fresh and ladylike, it was a great start for Moschino Cheap & Chic in London.

LOOK OF THE DAY

It’s the last look for LFW and I wanted to go all out with the textures and details! The skirt is the main event ton this ensemble. You can find this sequined beauty with an aztec print at ZARA. For the top part, a creme combo: a Bottega Veneta corset top and over it, I tucked in open a ZARA blouse with a golden collar. For some coverage, a gray, knitted vest with fringes (this one from Buckle is close to the one I had in mind, just a bit shorter). For the legs, with beautiful sunny days and 18º, leg bearing is in order. For the shoes, this nice ZARA booties are a perfect match.

For the bag, I’ve been wanting to use this Proenza Schouler baby for a while now and the time has come.  You can find it at Liberty London. For jewelry, a coin pendant from the fantastic Erin Wasson line, a beetle ring wwith a dark stone from Ted Baker and a silver claw one from ASOS. Last but not least, a favorite for your nails: YSL’s La Laque in Black Bronze.

All the details on this look can be found at FASHIOLISTA.

This was the last from London. You know what that means right? CIAO MILANO! Milan Fashion Week runways and reviews are coming up next for us. Meanwhile, enjoy Paris!

Sweet kisses…

The Daily Fashion Bread: SPRING 2012 AD CAMPAIGNS part 2

Good Sunday my sweet readers! There’s nothing better than fresh-baked bread for our Sunday morning coffee. This is the second post regarding Spring 2012′s exquisite ad campaigns. We’ve already seen what Givenchy, Balmain, Balenciaga released for the coming season. Want to know what Mulberry, Bottega Veneta, Fendi and Jil Sander have in store for us? Keep on readin’ baby, keep on readin’.

BOTTEGA VENETA

Ebony princess, model Liya Kebede, embodies the perfect Bottega Veneta woman: effortless chic, with elegance. Clutching a beautiful “Intrecciato” tote and sporting a beautiful pair of sunglasses, she is one of the faces of this season’s campaign with the also stunning Karmen Pedaru.

  • By Jack Pierson
  • Model: Liya Kebede

MULBERRY

Fresh, summery and cute, just like Mulberry’s S/S collection. This season´s campaign features models Frida Gustavsson and Lindsay Wixson, looking all pretty and candy-coated on the beach, with Brighton Pier behind.

  • By Tim Walker
  • Models: Frida Gustavsson and Lindsay Wixson

JIL SANDER

It’s seem’s like a poster from a horror movie, but not just any cheap blockbuster, more like an Alfred Hitchcock one. With a retro take to it, Jil Sander does it again, this time with Natasha Poly and Daria Strokous as the stars (oh and that fabulous mid-length dress that made me drool at the runway). Oh Jil Sander, I may not be a minimalist, but I think I’m falling in love.

  • By Willy Vanderperre
  • Model: Natasha Poly

For more about Jil Sander’s spooky & chic Spring, click HERE

GUCCI

It has Gucci written all over. It’s powerful, it’s strong, it’s sexy and also femenine. That’s the kind of woman Frida Giannini has always presented on the runway. And when that woman is represented by two of the best models, Abbey Lee and Karmen Pedaru, in the biz right now, it’s a win-win situation.

  • By Mert & Marcus
  • Models: Abbey Lee & Karmen Pedaru

PROENZA SCHOULER

It’s Russian godess, Natasha Poly, sporting those fabulous prints that rocked our world on FWNY last September. Another hit for the fashionable duo, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. It’s stunning and retro, but not your usual kind of retro. Everything from the styling and beauty, to the lights, looks picture perfect.

  • By Willy Vanderperre
  • Model: Natasha Poly

JUST CAVALLI

It’s what is always expected from the animal print master, italian designer Roberto Cavalli. It would’ve been boring, instead, by bringin’ in faces like the fabulous Ruby Aldrige, the stunning Lindsay Wixson, the mysterious Monika Jagaciak and the boys, the result is rather interesting.

  • By Terry Richardson
  • Models: Benjamin Eidem, Monika Jagaciak, Lindsey Wixson, Ruby Aldridge and Josh Beech

FENDI

It’s everyone’s favorite girl she’s wearing Fendi. Like some other brands this coming season, the italian fashion house also decided to go retro. With the mastermind behind the collection, Karl Lagerlfed, also behind the lens, the result is really breath-taking.

  • By Karl Lagerfeld
  • Model: Arizona Muse

No doubt this will be a fun season, with lots of trends and contrast. What is your favorite one so far? Jil Sander’s spooky chic posters, Fendi’s italian retro or Gucci’s glamour? I’m sticking with my beloved pastels, Mulberry is the one for me!

Wishing you a lovely Sunday, sweet kisses…

LEATHER ESSENTIALS: the top & the dress

Hello, hello my sweet readers! I’m back again with the last of my “Leather Essentials” posts. This time is all about the top and the dress, two items that are very in trend right now and that you can find in almost every shop. Leather is a powerful fabric and like all things powerful, it has to be used right or you can risk of ruining the whole ensemble. So here for you today, two more looks for you to try out!

THE TOP

Sleeveless, long or short-sleeved and even strapless, it doesn’t matter as long as it looks good and it fits right! For this occasion I chose a black short-sleeved top from Pied a Terre. I tucked it in some maroon tailored shorts from TOPSHOP. I love the color and the print is absolutely adorable (they come with a braided belt, but since the coat we used already has one, you might as well keep it inside your drawer this time). For your body coverage, I threw on this lovely skirted-belted coat form TOPSHOP. As you probably have already seen, burgundy is one of the top color choices for the season. For this chilly days, your legs are gonna need some warm aid, that’s why this knitted tights from TOPSHOP in cream are the perfect choice. For your feet, Topshop’s oxford booties, beautiful and affordable!

For the bag, they are so good I always go back. This fabulous Mulberry Bayswater Heritage satchel in pheasant green is absolutely amazing. For the accessories part, an all-time favorite of mine, fingerless gloves in tan! They are perfect for the outfit and they are simply fabulous! For the last rays of sun, Oliver Peoples Emelita square sunnies. For the final touch a couple of studs from Marc Jacobs and always a classic for your nails, Chanel’s Black Satin.

Want the details on this look? CLICK HERE!

DRESS LOOK

Leather dresses can be tricky but they can also be very fun to style. For this look I wanted to play down the garment. I didn’t want a dressy, dressy result, I wanted a more laid-back one. This flirty mini dress is from Zara, I don’t think it’s available for purchase anymore but you can find similar ones at H&M and Forever 21. To tone it down a bit, this ASOS oversized cardigan is fabulous. I have a crush with cable knit so when I saw it, it was love at first sight. Since it was a bit sunny today, half bare legs with some socks seemed like a good idea, this ones are from ASOS. For the shoes, it is always important that the style goes well with the whole sock thing. I chose this Steve Madden Leopard ones, they are like a mary-jane/peep toe/wedge hybrid. I love them!

For accessories, the always dreamy Proenza Schouler PS1 Medium bag, a ring trio: from ASOS, the ball & claw, the eagle head and the arrow stacked ones from TOPSHOP. For your nails, Deborah Lippmann’s Bitches Brew.

For all the details on this ensemble, CLICK HERE

That’s it, now you know all the leather you need to have in your closet to go through this season looking absolutely fab! Have a gorgeous weekend!

Sweet kisses…

LFW Coverage: Berardi’s twisted romance, the berries and more…

What do you think of Sweet’n'Raw’s take on the Queen’s Guards uniform?
Photo taken from google, illustration Ana Sofia Alanis

Hello, hello my sweet readers! Fashion Week London is ending today and Milan starts tomorrow! Let Fashion overwhelm my beloved italian city! I still have some posts in the oven about London, this is the first one. The thing about FW is that it all happens so fast and there is so much to cover, that falling behind is inevitable. In my attempts to try to keep up, I have for you 6 shows and one look, very much inspired in the traditional Queen’s Guards. So without further ado, let the round-up begin!

ANTONIO BERARDI S/S 2012

Among the ingredients written in Mr. Berardi’s recipe for his S/S collection were cream, romance, perfect tailoring, color, texture and a touch of futuristic vibe. The result was pure perfection, from the first look, that embellished, panelled gown to the very last. The british designer’s woman is one who has romance written all over, but not the kind of sublte, lovey-dovey romance, but that of a warrior.

He gave us a dramatic and beautiful palette. Cream and silver, then blush and berry red, then off to a more intense one ending with beautifully crafted black dresses. Bodycon ones with baroque hints were everywhere, panelled bodices, flowing gowns, everything adorned with sequins and detailed to the maximun. Those ankle cuff shoes in green and crimson, to die for!

JULIEN MACDONALD S/S 2012

Modern and edgy, that’s the Julien Macdonald girl for the S/S season. Models sported rad sunglasses made by Porsche Design along with slick hair and bright lips on the designer’s runway. A collection of contrasts, leather jackets and skirts, and army caps for the strong woman. Sheer, flowers, shimmer, asian motifs and more for a softer one. Each piece was perfectly executed, we are used to seeing this from him. Loyal to his style, this collection was lavish and ostentatious, like he has always been.

MULBERRY S/S 2012

Over the years, Mulberry has become one of the must-see shows from Fashion Week London, this year was no exception!  With the queen of all models, the always fabulous Kate Moss, as one of the front row guests, Emma Hill, the brand’s creative director, gave us more than we expected. She presented a collection that can only be described as lovely. Inspired by the english seaside, we saw long and flowy dresses made out of chiffon and with their fair share of sheer, embellished skirts and short, short, shorts. Everything in soft colors and paired up with a wide range of raincoats, some short, some long, some even cropped. All models sported big, big hair and socks with platform. Fun, playful and pretty, that’s what Mulberry has in store for us for the next season. The bags? They deserve a post of their own.

MATTHEW WILLIAMSON S/S 2012

You know you are big in LFW when you have your majesty, Queen Anna dell Russo as one of your front row personalities. The fabulous and stylish italian and the american stylist, Rachel Zoe, were among the people who gathered at the Tate Modern for Matthew Williamson’s new collection. A wide rage of prints were showcased by the british designer on the runway, embellished gowns in bold colors such as the one worn by one of my favorites, Miss Anja Rubik. He added fringes and sequins to the equation. Overall, a colorful and sophisticated display of fashion!

BURBERRY PRORSUM S/S 2012

I know I am not an acclaimed fashion critic (I will be someday, fingers crossed) but I am entitled to an opinion. The past years I was constantly left drooling with Christopher Bailey’s collections, he always swept me off my feet. If I can be blunt for a second, this year I did not find myself drooling, probably because the designer went on a totally different direction. I think I just need to adjust to Bailey’s proposals.

One of the highlights of the show was definitely the hand-work. We also had african prints, tribal inspired garments, but most importantly the re-invention of the trench coat. Burberry’s classic piece like we have never seen it before.

LFW LOOK OF THE DAY

It’s London time, is also time to have fun. Why not play a little with one of London’s trademarks, the Quuen’s Guard? I could have gone with a red jacket and some black pants but it would have been a little to severe or costumey. So playing only with the colors, I think the result was what I expected, you can tell it’s all about the guards but it’s casual and fun. I chose an ASOS Burgundy blouse with a peplum (my latest obsession from the trends) cinched with an embellished belt from Zara in black (you can trade it for something more jolly if you want). For the bottoms, Zara’s lace shorts underneath the blouse. Go buy them while they still have them, the fit is so nice and they are very resourceful. For the shoes, a style that shoul definitely be inside your closet by now, patent slippers also from Zara. I love the boyish look they give away.

For accessories, this Zara leopard bag is great for the ensemble. I bought it on sale this July, only 30 euros, talk about a baragain! What I like most about it is that it can be used as a shoulder bag or you can hide the strap and use it as a clutch. Since it’s still sunny out there, YSL sunnies from net-a-porter.com. For jewelry, the coveted VANITIES skull bracelet and this beautiful spiked one from Eddie Borgo (he is doing some amazing things).

So that’s it for today! Tomorrow more from LFW, some leopard and my first impressions from FW Milano. I just got some last minute tickets for a show tomorrow, I’ll let you know how it went!

Sweet kisses…
