The Goodbye Summer/Hello Fall Mash-up: Flowers and lace

Afternoon, my sweet readers! August is almost over and so is my Summer, with the bf back in Italy and only two weeks left with my family, I’m starting to feel the nostalgia. God, time sure flies when you are having a good time. Anyway, back to what concerns us, fashion. As you probably know, we are in the middle of our season transition series, the Goodbye Summer / Hello Fall mash-up. Going from a season to another is much more fun (at least for me) than the start of a new one. Why? Because you get to play with the trends from both Spring and Fall, it’s the best of both worlds! Today I combined two trends that ooze romance and beauty, Spring’s vivid florals and Fall’s lovely lace. To me, the result of mixing them both is just a match made in heaven. And yes, to make things even more beautiful, I threw in a peplum (it was around for Spring and it’s even stronger for Fall). So without further ado, let’s start dissecting so we can later proceed to mash them both up.

  • THE TREND: Vivid Florals
  • Season: Spring 2012
  • As seen in: Preen, Erdem, Docle & Gabbana, Mary Katrantzou, Balmain (pictured)
  • Key wardrobe pieces: Nothing like a blooming dress and a chiffon blouse

Flowers are a constant in fashion but on Spring it was all about the real deal. No, not about making a bra out of real peonies but about the prints, prints so vivid and beautiful that they almost looked alive. And since we are not ready to give up this pretty trend, brace yourself for the Fall florals, the baroque ones (thank you Domenico and Stefano).

The selection: Sneakers, WET SEAL / Blouse, ROMWE / Dress, TED BAKER / Pants, TED BAKER / Boots, JEFFREY CAMPBELL / Bralet, TOPSHOP / Bag, DOLCE & GABBANA

  • THE TREND: Lovely lace
  • The season: Fall 2012
  • As seen in: Colette Dinnigan, Erdem (pictured), Lanvin
  • Key wardrobe pieces: the shorts, the jumper, the pencil skirt and the blouse

Lace is definitely one of my all-time favorite trends, I’m always happy to see it on the runway. I’m even more happy when I see retailers carrying a great variety of garments made with this ladylike and sexy fabric. This coming season won’t be the exception. One of the major trends we got to see on fashion week was the lace blouse with a different collar and the pencil skirt. J’adore!

The selection: Dress, TOPSHOP / Bodysuit, NORMA KAMALI / Blouse, FAITH CONNEXION / Shorts, ROMWE / Clutch, ASOS / Skirt, HAUTE HIPPIE / Shoes, CHARLOTTE OLYMPIA / Jumper, ISABEL MARANT

For me, playing around with textures and prints feels like I’m a kid and I just got a new toy. The key: never be afraid to try. You won’t know if you’ll like it until you wear it so start experimenting. I paired up a pair of vivid floral jeans with a blazer. To give it a twist, the hard lace top with the peplum and the pumps to add up some spice. What do you think? Oh, and about that Rebecca Minkoff carved satchel… It’s the ultimate dreamboat!

That’s a wrap for today! And remember, Fashion Week is just around the corner!

Sweet kisses…

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The Free Spirit (evening)

Good Monday, my sweet readers! As I am getting ready for my last vacation destination (Acapulco Bay, I’m coming), I’m giving you the fourth post from our Summer Getaways 2012 series, Evening round. I’m gonna make this quick since I have a plane to catch! I’ve told you before about our lovely Free Spirit, Flora. She’s one who loves to chill, who loves exploring unknown destinations, who loves having a good time by the beach, with some friends and some beer. So, if you are the kind of girl who enjoys bonfire nights, if small bars with a twist are your scene, if you are heading out to an unknown paradise and need the perfect dinner ensemble, here’s what I’m offering you:

  • Kimonos have been on the trend spotlight for a while now. The more prints they have, the better they look. And if you dig that boho vibe, it’s a must inside your closet.
  • For bohemian destinations, white, crisp dresses work to perfection. Choose them in different materials: linen, crochet, silk (possibilities are endless)
  • Multi-strapping is a must for the shoes. Braided heels, wedges or flats, I can guarantee you’ll wear them out.
  • Shoulder mini bags are a girl’s best friend when it comes to going out. Rebecca Minkoff has quality and a good price.
  • Go crazy with some earthy arm candy.

WHAT FLORA IS WEARING

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

Now I’m of to soak up the sun!

Sweet kisses…

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The Free Spirit (daywear)

Good Wednesday my sweet readers! I just came back from the magical city of San Miguel de Allende, México. It was a fun and relaxing weekend and now I am back to reality before my last Summer escape, the beach. As promised, this is the last post form our SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012 (daywear) round. I’ve already given you the City Blonde, the Hopeless Romantic, the Party Princess and the Jet-set Junkie. Who am I missing? The Free Spirit! So if you are heading out to chill on a deserted beach or to a Mexican town, this is the post for you. It would’ve also been useful for all of you, Lollapalooza junkies, but sadly, that was this weekend. So if you are heading out to a destination were sandals, ponchos and headbands are just the thing to wear, keep on reading baby, keep on reading.

  • Flowy and lightweight blouses are just the thing to pull off that boho vibe you need.
  • Denim cut-offs, printed or washed up, are the bohemian’s best friend.
  • Do leave your natural waves loose and add a headband for an interesting twist.
  • Always wear shoulder bags, messengers or hobos when in a Free Spirit destination (fringes are optional but always a classic).
  • Layer different necklaces together. The different the length, the cooler the ensemble.
  • Ring packs are useful when pulling off a killer finger candy.
  • To change things up a bit, add a fun and sassy touch with bubblegum pink nails.

WHAT FLORA IS WEARING

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

There you go! Last from daywear, ready for evening wear? I sure am! The Hopeless Romantic will be armed and ready for dinner on tomorrow’s post!

Sweet kisses…

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The Party Princess (daywear)

Good Monday my sweet, sweet readers! As promised, I am here with a new Summer Getaways post (ok, one that I put together two weeks ago but couldn’t upload it) and we are picking up right where we left off. The swimwear round is done and now it’s daywear time. So if you are taking an August Summer holiday and need a couple outfit ideas, you are going to want to be checking back with us in the next few days. Remember Jaime, our very own party princess? If you have not met her yet, click HERE and HERE to find out more about her style. So if you are packing to go to a party central destination, if Vegas or Miami is in your plans, you are definitely gonna need a killer ensemble to wander around this fun cities during the day.

  • You need to look casual and effortless, but with a cool edge. You never know when the party is gonna start.
  • Sequin shorts and bright, simple cami tops, make perfect pairings. You will be toning down the “evening” vibe of the shorts and still get some heads turning your way.
  • Since the shorts we chose had an ethnic detail, ankle booties with fringes make a great match
  • Look for a shoulder bag or a satchel with a detail to make the outfit even more interesting
  • For the nails, candy colors complement the whole thing. It’s the cute factor

WHAT JAIME IS WEARING

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

There you go! Ready to wander around party town with a big-ass margarita in your hand? Need some shopping before dinner and drinks? I definitely hope this helps put together the perfect ensemble! Tomorrow we will continue with our daywear round, while I get ready for my second holiday round at the beach!

Have a great week and keep checking back for more Summer Getaways!

Sweet kisses…

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The City Blonde (beachwear)

Good Sunday y’all! I rarely go four days without posting, this time, I blame it on my sucky internet connection (ok, and some booze ingestion). Since time is of the essence, I’m gonna make things quick. This is the fifth and last post from our Summer Getaways, beachwear round. This next week we’ll be entering into the Daywear round and I’ll be reporting to you from the one and only NYC. Tomorrow I’m flying out to New York and I couldn’t be happier (it’s been three years since my last visit). Perfect timing huh? Since it’s the City Blonde’s turn…

So if you are, like me, planning a NYC getaway, if you are heading out to rainy London for the Summer, if you are ready to breathe in the concrete and take over the asphalt jungle, then this is the pool ensemble you are gonna need with you,

  • Bright solid swimwear always makes a statement
  • Chiffon, silk or sheer shirts make perfect cover-ups
  • Color-blocking is always more fun than matching it all
  • Satchels are the perfect alternatives to beach totes (and since your are probably gonna hit the pool rather than the beach).
  • Ray-ban Wayfarers are classics with swag
  • Make Summer the perfect excuse to buy Dior Vernis Summer Mix collection, it’s a must-have

WHAT ANITA IS WEARING

  1. Bikini top, THOMAS MAIER
  2. Bikini bottoms, TARA MATTHEWS
  3. Neon chiffon shirt, NASTY GAL
  4. Pink shorts, MONKI
  5. Studded sandals, ALDO SHOES
  6. Neon bag, PROENZA SCHOULER
  7. Wayfarer sunnies, RAY-BAN
  8. Mixed bangle set, ASOS
  9. Spiked bracelet, KARMALOOP
  10. Neon pendant, SHOUROUK
  11. Summer Mix collection, DIOR VERNIS

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

I’m off to run some errands, then some packing, then some post planning. See you tomorrow New York City.

Wishing you a lovely Sunday, sweet kisses…

Sweet’n’Raw’s Sweet Dreams: THE DRESS

Hello, hello my sweet readers! It’s Wednesday and I’m counting the days to say: “Arrivederci Italia, ci vediamo dopo”. Don’t get me wrong, I love living in Italy (and Le Boyfriend will be joining me in Aztec soil two weeks after), every second of it. The truth is, after a while, I need my sister, sister quality time, I need to have one too many drinks with my brother, a couple of bottles of wine with the girls and above all, Mommy and Daddy. I’m just 10 days away from boarding that plane that’ll take me to Mexico Lindo and between deadlines, the blog and packing I’m starting to feel the pressure. But hey, bloggers should be like soldiers, they must never abandon their troops (ok, my lovely readers), so I am preparing lots of posts so you won’t go a day or two without news from me.

Well, after this long, long introduction, let’s talk about the thing that matters today. I’m back with the fourth post from our SWEET DREAMS series, one more in the next few days and then it’s a wrap for the pajama trend. It was Stella McCartney’s fault with her fab, shift dresses with lace inserts. Cami dresses, slip dresses and shift ones have been around for a while now. There’s a trick though, if it’s lacy and silky (almost like a nightgown) use it as a sundress, you really want to avoid the stiletto and heavy makeup combo (the bordello look is so 1500’s) . If it’s a pretty, pajama print shift, you can definitely style it more for a night out or also for day. Here’s a vast selection you can find online.

PAJAMA DRESS SELECTION

TOP: Topshop / Mango / Mango / L’Agence

MIDDLE: ALC / Stella McCartney / Topshop / Elizabeth & James

BOTTOM: Topshop / Edun / River Island / Miss Selfridge

PAJAMA DRESS LOOK

I wanted to show you how Sweet’n’Raw does boho. My style is definitely more ladylike, that’s why I rarely do the bohemian thing. Anyway, to make it my own, I just throw in some pastels and lace. What do you think?

Two days till Friday, 10 days for Mexico City and then NYC. Sweet Summer, come to mamma!

Sweet’n’Raw’s Sweet Dreams: THE TOP

Another weekend has gone by and I’m just three weeks away form my beloved, Mexican soil. In my last post, I told you about the our new trend series, it’s all about the pajama. This season, the designers’ take on this trend is nothing like the lady (ok, me) that used to go to the supermarket, praying not to run into anyone, in a pair of flannel Mafalda pants, a sweatshirt bigger than a Circus tent and a some knitted booties with an ethnic print. How many of you are gasping right now? Pajama street wear can be sophisticated and posh, it can also be casual and chic. Proof of that are the hundreds of Pajama-inspired garments that I have seen in almost every retail store. From pants and shorts to the cutest, little jackets, I have decided to start this series with the sleeveless top. First of all, let’s see what you can find online.

PAJAMA TOP SELECTION

TOP: J. Crew / TIBI / Topshop

MIDDLE: The Row / Elizabeth & James / River Island

BOTTOM: Mango / DAY Birger et Mikkelsen / Mango

PAJAMA TOP LOOK

Stripes and floral print are a combo that definitely works for me. I wanted to stick with soft colors and add some navy for an unexpected twist. The accessories contrast with the feminine look. What do you think? Are you gonna try it out?

Now you know it, pajamas are not always frumpy. Now I’m off to prepare some chips and beer, it’s EURO 2012 time. Let Italy beat the crap out of Spain (after all, I am Milanese by choice).

Sweet’n’happy Sunday!

Sweet kisses…

Sweet’n’Raw’s NEON NATION: The Dress

The city is officially on fire!  Summer is about to hit us hard and I am armed an ready to welcome it (I sure hope you are too). This is our last post from the NEON NATION series. Don’t get me wrong, I love neon but I think after this electric fashion overload, I’m gonna be doing a neutral palette series. Anyway, back to today’s theme. I’ve already given you the jacket, the top, the skirt and the shorts, someone’s missing… THE DRESS. Neon dresses are the ultimate show-stopping weapon for a girl, you get to show the legs, enhance the tan and if it’s a tight little number, also your figure. But there’s a risk, tacky girls tend to love neon, before buying a dress ask yourself this question: “Is it something Snooki or Ice T’s Coco would wear?”. If the answer is yes, stay away! Here’s a non-tacky selection of dresses you can find online.

DRESS SELECTION

TOP: Topshop / Topshop / Alexander McQueen / River Island

BOTTOM: Michael Kors / Lipsy / Ilaria Nistri / Lipsy

LOOK OF THE DAY

Since I really, really dislike the neon and black combo, I wanted to do the opposite: neon and white together is my ultimate delight. I threw a statement necklace to make it more interesting and since the color is the same, it almost looks as part of the dress Add some neutral accessories and a colored clutch for some pop.

ACCESSORIES:

BEAUTY:

  • Sand Tropez nail polish, ESSIE

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

I hope you really enjoyed the NEON NATION posts as much as I did preparing them. I’m still deciding the trend for the next series so if you have any suggestions, I’m all ears!

It’s almost Friday, it’s almost Summer, what’s not to love?

Sweet kisses…

Sweet’n’Raw does Chictopia, vol. 4

Happy Monday, my sweet readers (if that’s even possible). A bright and punchy post to start up your morning! As you probably know by now (because I’ve repeated it over and over and just won’t get tired of it), I am contributing as a Fashion News Editor (God I love saying EDITOR) for Chictopia’s very chic and trendy blog, Everybody is Ugly. This was my fifth piece for them, and I decided to take on the very popular and lovely Tangerine Tango trend. In case you haven’t read my fashionable prose, here it is!

It Takes Three To Tango: 3 Chic Ways To Wear Tangerine

It is considered THE color of the season. It’s fun, it’s bright and it’s sexy, it’s Tangerine Tango! In a season where pastels have officially taken over, this non-powdery and lively shade has taken the throne

Last September, designers colored the runways tangerine: Derek Lam made it minimal and Haider Ackermann used it as the perfect complement to match his beautiful and architectural shapes. It was digital and printed for Peter Pilotto and Proenza Schouler went in for the kill and colored their leather tangerine.

Now that we’ve covered the catwalk, making the transition to high street has never been easier. Retailers seem to have the same style craving, after a sugar and pastel overload, a taste of sour citrus is just what we need.

Since it’s a strong color, it may seem overpowering at first glance. The trick? Don’t be afraid to grab tangerine by the horns— that means nail polish or a clutch is not enough anymore! The color itself is all about fun, but it gets even better when styling it and mixing it up in overpowering ways! We all like to see heads turning our way, and tangerine is just the shade to make that happen!

LOOK 1: BEJEWELED TANGERINE
Color blocking meets my jewelry box. More interesting than doing it with brights, more flashy than doing it with pastels.

Teal top, NASTY GAL
Tangerine pants, ZARA
Studded pumps, ZARA
Teal clutch, BERSHKA
Pendant, SHOUROUK
Viper nail polish, TOM FORD

LOOK 2: WILD TANGERINE
Tangerine is great mash-up material. If mix it with hot pink, it’s a match made in Vitamin heaven. Add a touch of leopard, now that’s what I call spicing things up.

Chiffon tangerine blouse, NASTY GAL
Pink Bouclé shorts, ZARA
Leopard long cardigan, NASTY GAL
Color-blocked sandal, ZARA
Vintage bag, CHANEL
Sunglasses, CHLOE
Black and gold bracelet, MADE
Cuff bracelet, JUST ACCESS
Tangerine bracelet, ORELIA
Owl bracelet, RIVER ISLAND
Stone ring, RIVER ISLAND
Bazooka nail polish, ESSIE

LOOK 3: CREAMY TANGERINE
Mixing it with neutrals is a great way to make this color pop. It doesn’t get sexier than a bodycon skirt, tone it down with some flowy and soft garments.

Chiffon waistcoat, ZARA
Blush top, ZARA
Tangerine bodycon skirt, NASTY GAL
Metallic sandals, ZARA
Mirror clutch, DOROTHY PERKINS
Spiked bracelet, DOROTHY PERKINS
Cross bracelet, DOROTHY PERKINS
Ribbon bangle set, FOREVER21
Stretch silver bracelet, ACCESSORIZE
Snake ring, LULUS
Pure Narcisse nail polish, LANCOME

Creamy, wild, or bejeweled? What’s your tangerine style?

What do you think? I am looking for this week’s theme, if you have any suggestions, I will really appreciate it!

Have a great week! Sweet kisses…
