NYFW FALL 2013: The Trend Report

New York Fashion Week ended a week ago (a long time when it comes to the Fashion Month) and left a bunch of trends behind. As we are getting ready to welcome a new season (thank God Spring is just around the corner), we also get to discover what will be in store for us next Fall. Remember, in Fashion, we are always one step ahead. For Fall 2013, New York went back to basics. After a few seasons of surprises (Fall collections that looked more like Spring ones and vice versa), the Big Apple gave us old school, heavyweight, cold weather fashion. No need to mention the regulars, as they are not considered trends anymore: leather and fur were all over the Fall 2013 runways. Moving on to the novelties, designers really went the extra mile this time. They toned down the prints, but they really payed special attention to tailoring and textures. Mash-ups will be the next big thing next Winter.

As I mentioned before, this is a very different coverage from my previous ones. I wanted to focus more on the trends and on the shows that really made a statement than on reviewing single shows. Here’s a recap of the trends that walked the New York runways last week. Ready?military

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The Party Princess (beachwear)

Rise & shine, my sweet readers! The Summer Getaways are still happening and we are in the middle of our Beachwear round. I’m sure that if you are not on vacation already, you are planning the escape. Party Central destinations can only mean one thing: the fun is never over! And that’s definitely what our Party Princess is all about (click HERE to find more about her and the Summer Getaways). So if you chose a city where the party goes on all day long, if all you’ll be doing is sip cocktails and attend pool parties at noon, if you need to rock the pool party scene, if you are heading out to Ibiza, Miami or Las Vegas, then let Jaime show you how to do it! Here’s what she would wear and how she would wear it:

  • Mixing and matching a leopard bikini top and a scarf print bottom can be a bold move, but it certainly works.
  • Silk, boyfriend shirts are an alternative to your classic kaftan or beach cover-up
  • A pool party look will never be complete without a killer pair of sunnies
  • Paint your toes and fingers with colors as bright and as bold as your ensemble
  • PVC totes are great beach companions: chic, practical and obviously, plastic!

For all the details on this look, go to FASHIOLISTA

There you go! Ready for the pool party and the umbrella cocktails? I hope this was useful to you and if you are into groovy holiday destinations, tomorrow the Free Spirit will be on the spot!

Sweet kisses…

We are halfway through with this week, time flies my sweet readers! Today I have for you the second part of our Spring Leather series. I have been obsessed with leather for a while now, everything I design has to always have at least a hint of it. Leather shorts are resourceful and cool, you can wear them in Spring with a sheer top and sandals, on fall with some tights and a jacket and even on Winter with a pair if boots. If you ask me, a caramel shade has to be inside you closet (I can guarantee, you’ll wear them out). Here’s a selection you can find online:

TOP: Vince / Chloe / A.P.C.

MIDDLE: 3.1 Phillip Lim / Kelly Bergin / TOPSHOP

BOTTOM: Emma Cook / Ralph Lauren / TOPSHOP

Mustard, bottle green and navy are a combo that usually works for me. Add a touch of crimson and you are good to go. I love the athletic touch on the shorts, very trendy right now!

For all the details, go to FASHIOLISTA

Do you like this classic and casual look with an edge? Let me know, I’m here to listen and read!

Sweet kisses…

NYFW COVERAGE: The Sugar Princess and the Mad Hatter

Greetings from a less frozen Milan, Italy! As we began to warm-up for our Fashion Week, New York begins to wrap it up. It’s been a wonderful week so far (Proenza Schouler made my heart literally stop yesterday, but their review will be coming up tomorrow), Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren have yet to show their stuff on the runway. As for myself, I have five more reviews in store for you, my sweet and gorgeous readers. Ready for today’s round-up? I have Mr. Elegance, Oscar de la Renta, the showman, Marc Jacobs, and more! Let’s start!

It was a dream, a dream built by the man himself, Oscar de la Renta. It was a display of class, sophistication, femeninity but with a touch of fantasy. Who wouldn’t want to be turned into a de la Renta princess? I bet all of you raised your hands. It was all so old school, all so parisian chic and all so lavish. There was the Audrey Hepburn inspiration and then there were a gazillion jewels going down the runway (some real, some printed).

I have to admit I was hypnotized from look one, and kept on drooling till the final bow (I have a secret crush on Oscar). The Dominican designer mixed classic black looks with powdery colored ones. He sent out knits, lace, tulle, pleats, embellishments, and even colored fur, it was so overwhelmingly perfect! In the end, he had his usual red carpet moment with some dreamy and fabulous gowns, waiting to be Oscar’d. I loved his collection, I loved each and every one of his garments.

Moving on to a lighter and more minimal runway, 3.1 Phillip Lim’s. For the working woman, for the sleek and cool city chick, that’s the type of crowd the designer went for this season. Tailored pants in different cuts, unusually shaped knitwear, fitted blazers and the turtleneck, which was pretty much everywhere.

He did his fair share of color-blocking and layering, in a clean and precise way. It was a great show, wearable clothes for the glam gal who likes workwear and trendy in the same phrase.

When the tailoring is right, you can never go wrong, that was Derek Lam’s motto for this collection. Cream, black, mustard and a little bit rusty red painted the designer’s runway. Each look resulted in odd pairings, in a good way. Printed bombers accompanied printed midi skirts, fur, leather and silk as a combo, long and flowy skirts with thick and heavy knits. And it all worked out so damn well. It was effortless, it was laid-back with a touch of dressy and a pinch of sporty. I simply loved the movement in his final garments and the shoes, oh those shoes, someone get me a pair before I throw a fit.

This is the way proper draping should look, beautiful, artistic, flawless and wearable. This is the first time I review DOO.Ri and all I have to say by looking at the stellar collection is that it has been a pleasure. The color palette was mainly black & bone, there were a few hints of pink, a little gray and that gorgeous shade of teal she sent down the runway. The show had an air of fluidity and elegance, everything seemed to fit in the right place and at the right time.

Aside from her jersey draped beauties, we also got to see some different elements this time: silk dresses, wool knits, leather, tailoring skills and laser cutting.

Definitely the show most people expect on NYFW. Yes, it is about the clothes, but it’s also because this man sure does know how to put on a show. This time the setting was a castle in ruins, the main attraction were hats and the accessory that you could spot on every ensemble were pilgrim shoes. The collection, as the designer said, was inspired by fashion icons Anna Piaggi and Lynn Yaeger. It was a texture parade, a big time mash-up, just the way his two muses would have done it.

Everything came oversized or cropped, notice the hips with volume and the flesh peeking out underneath those fabulous coats? It was edgy, it was daring, it was beyond dramatic, it was mad-hatter, it was disco, it was, after all,  Marc Jacobs.

Cute schoolgirl does the mash-up, that’s what I like to call today’s look! It’s is pretty but it has an edge. Let’s start with the first layer, a pastel blue sleeveless blouse from TOPSHOP. Second layer: a crocheted lace dress from See by Chloe, it’s flirty and femenine. To contrast with the girly stuff, a menswear sweater in grey with speckles. It’s from Oliver Spencer and you can find it on Mr. Porter. For the last layer, I added more texture and print to the game with this THU THU boucle bomber. For leg coverage, spotted natural tights from Modcloth and navy blue socks from TOPSHOP. For walking distances with style, this See by Chloe lace-up shoes are perfect for the ensemble.

For the bag, a classic in the making, the PS11 by Proenza Schouler in camel. For jewelry, the cute factor with a stripey bow necklace from ASOS and a leather bracelet in beige from Mulberry. Last but not least, pucker up with Dolce & Gabbana’s Scarlett lipstick.

All details from today’s look can be found HERE.

15 down, tons of more reviews to go. Tomorrow LFW kicks off my sweet readers! Which show are you most excited for? Me? Two words: Meadham Kirchhoff.

Sweet kisses…

PS: MFW is 6 days away!

A/W OBSESSIONS: Leather Essentials

Happy Halloween my sweet, sweet readers! I hope you had a blast this weekend with your fabulous costumes, here at Sweet’n’Raw we had also a great time preparing those holiday theme posts we published before. Now it’s time to get a bit more serious, Fall serious that is. Going around the city today, I noticed the beautiful trees in shades of orange and yellow and as leaves begin to fall and Autumn is calling our name, our wardrobes have to be not only ready but perfect for the current season. Yes, I am a self-proclaimed leather lover, I would wear leather pajamas and knickers but that would be rather prejudicial to my pores. I consider leather to be very resourceful, it also has the power of twisting and pumping up any outfit! There was a time when leather was for jackets and boots, nowadays we can even find it on bikins and in different shades (I’m a sucker for pastel leather garments). So for fall, you have to have at least one of the following inside your closets, trust me, you’ll thank me later.

Pencil, mid-length, skin-tight mini, pleated or a personal favorite, the A-line are some of the styles you’ll be able to find in your favorite shops this season. The color? With black you can never go wrong, Cognac is the color of the season and Navy blue just because it’s lovely! From left to right:

Shorts have become a must in every girl’s wardrobe, floral, lace, denim, you name it, they make them that way. Leather shorts are wearable in both seasons. You can pair them up with a breezy top and sandals for Summer or throw a heavy knit sweater with biker boots for Fall. A pair of highwaisted shorts in your closet? Always! From right:

Now this is one garment that wasn’t that popular in leather until this season and it’s a personal favorite. It all started with the leather bustier and it evolved so much that now you can find it in many styles:  the button-down, the one with panels (this season and the next is all about panels), cropped, sleeveless, long sleeved and more! From left to right:

Fancy pants? Sexy pants? Leather pants! Ask any guy out there what is the sexiest garment a woman can wear (lingerie does not count as streetwear, ok?), he is gonna answer leather pants for sure. Not only do they accentuate every bit of our gorgeous and womanly figures but they are show-stoppers and head-turners. From right to left:

The leather dress can be a big hit when the fit is perfect, the material is flattering and the shape does not make you look like you just cut some holes into a trash bag. It is not harsh, you can pull off a romantic look with a leather dress when you pair it up with the right accessories. From left to right:

A biker jacket is always one of the best investments a girl should make. It doesn’t matter if you pay a bit more, you are not getting just a jacket. You are getting a classic, you are getting the chic factor, you are getting the one item that you can wear over and over and  without wearing out the look. It’s so versatile, it has become a need. From right to left:

There you have it! All the leather you are gonna want and you are gonna need for this fall! Check back this week for the outfits I have put together with each and everyone of this garments!
Hoping you have a great week, sweet kisses…

MFW Coverage: Pastel Versus, Sexy Pucci and Moschino goes Ole!

Looking fab with my Valentino pumps @ Arco della Pace, Milano

Hello, hello my sweet readers! Fashion Week is almost over, that’s the sad part. The happy one is that we were left with lots of beautiful collections and new trends! We still have a many shows that need some reviewing, the last of Milan and all of Paris! So you know what this means, right? If you have been enjoying Sweet’n’Raw’s Fashion Week Coverage so far, this week and the next you are in for some more. Please keep checking back for updates, reviews and more looks of the day. And don’t be afraid to post comments or give me some feedback, I’m always here to listen (or read). So from la mia bella cittá italiana, antother six fabulous designers!

If you ever wondered how the italian designer would handle tribal and african inspirations, here is your answer. Alberta Ferretti’s S/S 2012 collection was all about that trend, but of course with her romantic twist on it. It was all about the dress! With models the size of Abbey Lee and the always stunning, Anja Rubik, the runway was flooded with textures, hints of sheer, earthy prints, beautiful knits and color. Her looks went from casual to evening, but all of them had something in common: the right amount of skin flashing. Cut-outs, beading and slips, sultry is written all over the collection.

If you ever wondered why the italian brand is considered luxury at its best, take a look at this season’s collection and you will understand. Thomas Maier, the creative director, never seizes to amaze the fashion crowd. It’s always naturally cool and sophisitcated, it never looks like he tried too hard. This time it was with an explosion of bold colors, beautiful prints, shiny panels, corset dresses, pleats and jeans… Ah those jeans! The handwork and cratfiness was overwhelming (the fringing and the embroidery, OMG), the execution was pure perfection. Another hit for the italian house! I would’ve given the man a standing ovation, but then again, my invitation got lost in the mail…

Oh Raf Simons, would you please stop killing us with your amazing work! This is the third season in a row that Jil Sander delivers perfection on the runway. From that moment, two seasons ago, that Mr. Simons blew the world away with his colorblocking madness, he has been doing just that but with other elements. This year it was the paisley, the short suits and the crisp white. It was all so minimal and clean, but so ladylike with that whole Mad Men kind of vibe.

Printed kints, gingham pants and jackets, solid colored garments, plunging necklikes and his different takes on THE cotton shirt (even for those stunning white, flowing dresses at the end). The tailoring was flawless, the prints were eye-catching and the collection was modern in every single way. Overall, another great fashion display from Mr. Simmons. This is why he deserves YSL and he will kill it over there if he gets it!

Pucci is a synonym for sexy. From the fabrics, to the silhouettes, to the models (bombshells Iza Goulart and Isabeli Fontana are sex on a pair of brazilian legs). For Peter Dundas, it was all about the gypsies. The show opened with a trio of midriff-baring ensembles with their fair share of prints and lace. Embellished numbers, ruffled skirts, he even managed to make a short suit look bohemian. Models were styled with ankle-strap shoes, deep, dark eyes and beaded necklaces with big crosses hanging from them. Paisley, dramatic lace in red and black and crocheting added up to a stunning and always sexy result.

Que viva España! I am not really a fan of  La Fiesta Brava, but if Rossella Jardini wants to dress me as a bullfighter, then I’m game. This FW Moschino’s inspirations were clear and literal, the spanish matador and his flamenco dancers and some wild, wild american west.  Cropped jackets in black and gold paired up with skin-tigh trousers, tailored shorts and skirts and heavily emboridered, almost baroque dresses were among the things presented by the italian brand on the catwalk. There were also ruffles, embellishments, all very Spaniard, all vey Moschino. Then, along came the cowboys and the indians. Leather jackets and shift dresse with fringes paired up with hats, western hats. Dr. Quinn meets chic and fashionable. The show was styled by the amazing Anna Dello Russo (the headpieces made that so obvious). Wrap snadals in gold and showstopping hair accessories were part of the props chosen by the italian to style the models. If you want one of those jackets, you can wait for Spring and pay the full price or you can strip down a real matador for it (that sounds sexy enough).

Only a dinamic duo like Donatella Versace and Christopher Kane could pull this one off. Mr. Kane got rave reviews for his collection presented in London this Fashion Week, and Miss Donatella gave us the mermaid vibe on her first line show three days before. Funny how both of them used pastels in their own collections, because this one was all about those colors. It was pastel meets sporty, meets cheerleader, meets edgy. It was a wild ride, cut-outs, pink leather, cool prints, sheer, leg slits and that dress (in the middle above) which made me feel love at first sight. A mixed combo, but a successful one! Special mention to the shoes, I can’t even begin to describe the lust I’m feeling for them right now (my piggy bank needs to be fed if I plan on getting them for myself).

Yes, Fashion Week is about style but more importantly, it is about having fun with what you are wearing and mixing things up. That is why today I chose an outfit that seems a little matchy when it comes to colors, but when it comes to the pairing, it is completely unexpected. I chose a pair of tailored and pleated shorts from 3.1 Phillip Lim in camel. The thing about smart shorts is that they are very dressy but also playful and flirty. For the top, I went with a printed, sheer blouse from ASOS. The black top has two front pockets, you need to tuck it into the shorts. A black bra underneath is mandatory (remeber the bra has to have a good coverage, nipple slips are unforgivable). For the shoes, this coveted and popular Valentino Rockstuds are among the favorites of style icons out there and with our ouftit, they are a match made in heaven! You can find them in different styles, but the brown snakeskin one clashes to perfection with the spotted blouse and the camel bottoms.

For accessories, you can never go wrong with a Chanel bag. This fabulous vintage one from the 70’s can be found at  www.lindestore.com. To make it more chic, a black, felted hat I found at my-wardrobe.com. For jewelry, it’s all about the rings: YSL’s very resourceful Arty and this Roberto Cavalli’s foxy one. Add some vintage Chanel studs into the mix and some cream nail polish for your paws, this one is Illamasqua‘s Load and your are ready to go!

Two posts down and one to go from Milan Fashion Week, then som tasty delights from Paris! Oh Fashion Week, please don’t come to an end!

For all the details about today’s look, click here to go my list on Fashiolista!

Have you made your Polyvore set? If you have, best of luck! If you haven’t, do it now!

Sweet kisses…
