Resort 2012: Chloè, Prabal Gurung & Moschino

We keep on going with Resort 2012. We have seen so far great collections, not so great ones and some we’d like to forget. But overall we can say Resort is better than ever. Today we have another three more shows. So let’s begin dissecting!

CHLOÉ:

First collection without Hannah MacGibbon as creative director of the brand. Made entirely by the group of designers that work for the label since Clare Waight Keller’s debut as the head designer is scheduled for October. A transition collection inspired by military and the 70′s, still going strong as a trend. Tailored pieces and outerwear were the main garments presented. Wide legged trousers and monochromatic looks. A color palette a bit sober for resort, more appropriate for fall (with the exception of a few looks). We’ll have to wait for Fashion Week this fall to se what direction Chloè will be taking in the hands of Keller.

PRABAL GURUNG:

He keeps on charming us and showing us he has what it takes to become fashion’s it designer and that element of surprise (in this case, the video in which rapper Rye Rye showcases his collection). This collection, the first for Resort, was another reason why he was awarded as best womenswear designer by Swarovski at the CFDA. Mastering the art of color blocking with an interesting choice of hues, a well provided dose of polka dots (specially that last long dress I am going bananas for). Packed with sequins and floral prints also, I’d say this one is not only one of my favorites, but one of the best of this season. I love Prabal, I know you do too.

Sweet’n’Raw’s favorite looks:

MOSCHINO:

1960′s everywhere for the famous italian brand. Full, waisted skirts, bubble ones, tulle ones paired with tweed and bouclè cropped jackets were among the garments Rossella Jardin chose for the collection. A collection with hints of color, but where the black and white combination had the main role. The choice of flats for all the looks was to downplay the formality in them. But never taking away the sophistication and flirty feel to it.

The Daily Fashion Bread: June 16, 2011

  • Louis Vuitton’s Resort 2012 in collaboration with Sofia Coppola New York was witness of the presentation of LV’s Resort 2012. Creative Director Marc Jacobs with help of the filmaker designed the Cruise line. Presented at the Four Seasons, with coveted model Arizona Muse as its star, the collection was all about french chic. A mix of materials, tweed, leather, denim, lace, and more, were used to create 32 different looks, perfect for a holiday extravaganza.
  • Jimmy Choo celebrates 15th anniversary 15 years worth of sexy footwear. So the brand has decided to celebrate it by releasing their ICONS Collection. The 15 most emblematic styles overall, including that feather sandal Carrie loses in an episode of Sex and the City. The shoes will only be sold in Jimmy Choo’s boutiques. The styles, as Tamara Mellon said, will not only be the most popular, but also those that have a personal story.
  • Alexa gets Mulberry rich The brand is celebrating their 40th anniversary, but they also have another reason to celebrate. Their profits have skyrocketed thanks to the customer demand for the Alexa bag, named after TV presenter and fashion icon, Alexa Chung. Also very profitable, the styles Edie and Tillie. The sales in their stores have doubled and the brand is expected to keep on growing financially speaking.
  • Oh Dear, oh dear…. Just because I find it amusing, Snookie, yeah that orange girl from the Jersey Shore, is planning to expand her footwear line (I didn’t even know she had one) which already includes leopard print slippers. Snooki Enterprises (I am trying hard no to laugh) has signed a licensing deal for a line of PICKLE flip-flops. The Jersey Shore people sure know how to milk the cow, while it lasts. Will you be buying? (Please don’t).

See you tomorrow for a big, fat, new post!

Sweet kisses…

RESORT 2012: Candy, Sorbet and Alber

Oh the sweet smell of Resort…. There’s not one thing I love the most than to open Style.com to find the latest reviews of the shows. Resort is that guilty pleasure we fashion lovers have while we wait for the next S/S in September. For those of you that are not familiar of the Resort concept, it is a Ready-to-Wear collection presented in between seasons (F/W & S/S). The reason: offer more choice to those jetsetters or just people who are going on holiday. So since many shows have already been presented, starting with Chanel, which you can read all about HERE, let’s start dissecting our first three.

NINA RICCI: Replacing Oliver Theysken seems like an impossible task. Those are some big, genious, shoes to fill. But in these two years as creative director of the brand, Peter Copping has demonstrated he not only gets the brand’s essence but has complete control of it. And Resort 2012 was perfect proof. Hourglass silhouettes, romantic and soft shapes, candy colors but also neutrals. The 50′s and 60′s influence still going strong, portraying an elegant and ladylike woman. But also a dramatic tone to the collection with the long gowns. The shoes, perfection. I’d say lovely, what do you think?

Sweet’n’Raw’s favorite looks:

EMILIO PUCCI: We are now used to big sex atmosphere that we get from Pucci, collection after collection (I love Pucci for that). For Resort 2012, Peter Dundas gave us a lighter dose. The collection was mainly composed by cropped pantsuits in sherbet shades. Supertight jeans paired up with perfectly tailored jackets and shirts. He gave us zebra, zebra is the new python for Cruise. Of course the prints were present, and the sexy vibes too. With see-trough and long dresses, letting us see a peek of bikini. Special mention to the house’s tailoring skills, the garments looked flawless, flattering and painted on the model.

Sweet’n’Raw’s favorite looks:

LANVIN: I cannot begin to express my admiration for the genious mind that is Alber Elbaz. A man who not only does good stuff on the runway, but every year he does it even better. This season, Mr. Elbaz blew us wasy with a mix of mettalic lamè, delicate draping, togas and fringe perfection. And in the middle of all that madness, a white maxi dress, so beautiful my eyes hurt just by looking at it. Of course very ensemble was perfectly accessorized with chunky necklaces, chokers, beads, brooches. Monsieur Elbaz definitely know how to season his concoctions. Overall, beautiful. And just because he can, he gave us the perfect ending to a perfect line, he presented his little girl collection. Let the images speak for themselves. J’adore Lanvin!
