BIKINI SEASON 2013: The Free Spirit

free spirit3

Good morning, my sweet readers! This is the fourth post from our Bikini Season series and on that I have learned to love and wear. I’ve never been a music festival kind of chick and I am not fond of tye-dye. But when it comes to beachwear, the Free Spirit style is as chic and effortless as it can get! It’s all about mixing and matching unexpected bikini prints, adding feathers or fringes for that bohemian touch, taking animal prints to the next level (no patterns, the digital face of that animal in all its glory), wearing cropped tops (think embroidery, think crochet, think ethnic tees) with short, short, distressed, denim cut-offs (details like studs, lace or threads make the look even more interesting). Even if you the Free Spirit trend is not your cup of tea, don’t neglect it until you try it! But first, the selection of bikinis and one-pieces you’ll need to start putting together your look. Ready?

mix match

Tie-dye: A tie-dye bikini set is definitely a must inside your closet. Both top and bottom are perfect for mixing and matching duties. Wear one or the other with a floral top or a paisley bottom.

  • River Island
  • VIX
  • Raquel Allegra
  • Khol’s

Paisley Princess: Paisley has been around always when it comes to beachwear, that’s why the perfect piece must belong in that bikini drawer of yours. Paisley looks good with solids but it also looks great with more prints and why not? With another paisley pattern!

  • Zimmermann
  • ETRO
  • Zimmermann
  • Dolce & Gabbana

Digital Print: It was a matter of time, digital prints took over the pret-a-porter world seasons ago. It was only natural that swimwear followed. Whether you go for a retro beach setting or a wild lion’s face, this style is a fun twist to your usual flower bikini.

  • Topshop
  • New Look
  • We Are Handsome
  • We Are Handsome

Top with a fringe: I’ve been skeptical about this style and the truth is, it’s everywhere! I have big boobs so the fear of the frill, ruffle or fringe has always been there, staring at my face. My advice for big chested girls like me? Triangle with a little fringe. If you have less boobs, wear ‘em all!

  • H&M
  • Nelly’s
  • Tilly’s
  • New Look
  • Nelly’s
  • Charlotte Russe

What will you need to pair up with your Free Spirit bikini of choice? Here’s a selection:

  1. Saddle bag, OrYANI
  2. Gladiators, Zara
  3. Wayfarers, Ray-Ban
  4. Crochet top, Topshop
  5. Knit shorts, Haute Hippie
  6. Tiger one-piece, We Are Handsome
  7. Scarf playsuit, Fashion Union
  8. Caged wedges, River Island
  9. Gem necklace, ASOS
  10. Nail polish duo, Chanel Le Vernis
  11. Head chain, River Island
  12. Classique Summer scent, Jean Paul Gaultier
  13. Fringe bikini top, H&M
  14. Leopard bikini bottom, River Island

And we are done for the day! I’m taking a few days off to go to my lil’ piece of beach heaven so I’ll be blogging from there!

Lots of love and sweet kisses…

Sweet n’Raw does Chictopia vol. 9

Y’all know by know that I have the pleasure of contributing with Chictopia as a Fashion News Editor. In other words, every other week I get to grace their site with an article of my own. This is the first piece I have done as an assignment, the ones before were themes chosen by yours truly. Let’s me know what you think!

3 New Ways to Wear Fur This Fall

It’s officially over— no more easy breezy dresses, no more life in bikini bottoms, no more summer until further notice (9 long, long months). As trees begin to get naked, we start to feel that need to cover up. We are in the middle of the summer to fall transition: sheets for blankets, beach towels for shawls, flip flops for slippers, shaving for stockings and so on. Saying goodbye to summer is not all about mourning and longing. In fact, we get to welcome a new season: Fabulous Fall. We get to embrace new trends, adopt new colors and above all, re-stock our closets!

Months ago, the trend zone began to buzz with new shades (hello oxblood, white, and royal blue), new styles (hello utilitarian, baroque, and futuristic), new textures and prints (hello graphics, leather, brocade) and new garment favorites (hello sweatshirts and jumpsuits). But this time we are going to tackle a controversial trend, a constant when it comes to autumn and winter collections: fur.

Fur has been in the hot seat for a while now. There’s been endless quarrel between those who fight against animal cruelty and those who defend their right to wear their hair of choice. Since fashion has given us the choice to wear faux fur that not only looks but feels like the real thing, and since we don’t want to raise PETA hell or we have respect and love for all the living creatures in the world, we are going to celebrate and thank mankind for the gift of faux fur.

This season, as every fall/winter season, the fur menu was vast and diverse: Dries Van Noten, Giorgio Armani and Blumarine colored it, Cavalli, Wu and Pugh made skirts out of it, Pucci and Fendi supersized it, Nina Ricci and Oscar de la Renta accessorized with it. In the end, there’s enough choice for us to take what we like and discard what we don’t. Here are the five faux fur, must-have items for fall:

- The leopard jacket: whether it’s cropped, fitted or oversize, you can find them in almost any store. From DKNY and Isabel Marant to ASOS and River Island, you’ll be glad you bought it.
– The Mongolian gilet: Nothing looks better with that pair of skinny jeans and some booties than one of this babies. River Island and Topshop have great options.
– The furry bag: Shoulder bag? Trunk? Messenger? Leopard? Zara has them all!
– The combined garment: whether it’s leather and sheepskin on a bomber, or rabbit (faux) and knit on a cardigan, this is a major trend for Fall.
– The colorful collar: collars are among the hottest accessories right now, so are stoles. Add a punch or color to give your outfits an original twist.

When it comes to styling fur this Fall, we have prepared three different ensembles. Get ready to go fur it!

If Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have taught us one thing in life, it has to be that flowers and leopard print are a match made in heaven (sexy heaven). A dress over a graphic jumper and an animal print jacket? Boom, you’ve got three hot trends in one outfit.

1. Leopard Jacket, DKNY
2. Floral jumper, Dolce & Gabbana
3. Black dress, MAJE
4. Black wedges, ZARA
5. Pelican bag, ALEXANDER WANG
6. Black bangle, KATE SPADE
7. Leopard bangle, J. CREW
8. Ring pack, ASOS
9. Infusion prune nail polish, LANCOME

Who said pastels were only for spring? And who said you can’t pull off a powdery combo for fall? We did it and we liked it! You’ll need your mongolian gilet, a pastel pair of skinnies, neutral pumps and another one of the hottest trends of the moments, the dressy sweatshirt.

1. Mongolian gilet, RIVER ISLAND
2. Tiger sweatshirt, ZARA
3. Mint skinny jeans, ZARA
4. Salmon pump, GIANVITO ROSSI
5. Metallic satchel, J. CREW
6. Pink beaded bracelet, NELLY.COM
7. Spike silver bracelet, ASOS
8. Rhinestone bracelet, J. CREW
9. Cat ring, MODCLOTH
10. Rose Astrait nail polish, YSL

Want a laid-back look with a pinch of edgy? A leather and fur bomber, a sweatshirt, a pair of leather shorts (leather on leather is flaming hot right now) and the famous high-tops (Isabel Marant is to blame for this one) is all you need.

1. Combined bomber, ZARA
2. Grey sweatshirt, ZARA
3. Leather shorts, ROMWE
4. High-top sneakers, ZARA
5. Pashli bag, 3.1 PHILLIP LIM
6. Ring trio, TOPSHOP
7. Ace pendant, LAURA LEE
8. Velvet Voyage nail polish, ESSIE

Pastel, wild or edgy? What’s your favorite style? And remember, tights are still optional (but not for long).

It’s finally Friday night and I’m ready to have some fun! What are you up to this weekend?

Sweet kisses…

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The City Blonde (evening)

Greetings from the beautiful Acapulco Bay, the last of my Summer destinations. I am ready to soak up the sun and finally get rid of this white and pasty Winter skin (yes, I haven’t had the chance to do some proper sunbathing). Anyway, back to what concerns us today, the Summer Getaways post. This is the fourth one from the evening round, we only have one more to go and it will be officially over. This time I bring you the City Blonde. So if you are in NYC and you are ready to party, if the London club scene awaits, if it dinner and then drinks in Madrid, here’s what you could be rocking tonight…

  • Snakeskin has gone from trend to constant, we always get to see this beauty on the runway. With a pair of skin-tight, python print jeans, you’ll seriously get the attention you deserve.
  • To tone down the power of the jeans, how about a peplum (it doesn’t get girlier than a peplum)
  • Some people like to pair snake print wit bold colors, I like to do quite the opposite. Play with the same shades as the jeans. As you can see, the result is all-neutral.
  • Toe caps were big this season, keep on rocking them any chance you get
  • For your nails, if you are lucky enough to find the impossible to find GRIS DECO from YSL, it will be the perfect final touch for the look. If not, any pastel gray will do.

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

Time flies by and Summer does too. In about one more post, I will start preparing our minds and closets for Fall.

Sweet’n’sunny kisses…

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The Hopeless Romantic (beachwear)

It’s Tuesday and I’m just five days away from leaving rainy Mexico City for a sunny New York one. We are almost done with our Summer Getaways, beachwear round. And today it’s my turn, the Hopeless Romantic. Girls like Sophie (that’s me, by the way) usually love quiet and visually stunning destinations. We like to pack the same amount of books as we do clothes.  There’s nothing we enjoy more than a Tuscan villa with a pool (surrounded by Lavender, of course). Oh well, there is something we enjoy more, a bottle of wine under the Provence sky. So if your Summer vacation is all about romantic strolls and discovering Parisian hidden gems, if you are up for some major views and some major wine tasting, if you are ready to take all that French Country in, then you’ll need a pool (or beach, if there is one) ensemble worthy of a romantic escape.

The Hopeless Romantic doesn’t compete with the view, she likes to be a part of it. That is why we love all things floral and all things cute. The color palette I used (soft pink, teal, ivory and lilac) will make you look like the ultimate Tuscan garden goddess.

  • Balconette bikini tops always have that air of romance and old school glamour, great for this type of destination.
  • A floral kimono is the ultimate cover-up for a day at the pool and garden.
  • Go for a pair of tan, leather strap sandals
  • Leather shoppers are the perfect companions on a trip, you can take them with you all day: to the beach, to the pool, to lunch, to run errands…
  • For the nails, go with bright but cute colors (pink, teal, lilac, peach, coral)

  1. Bikini top, JACK WILLIS
  2. Bikini bottoms, PRISM
  3. Floral kimono, RIVER ISLAND
  4. Tan sandals, ASOS
  5. Leather shopper, ZARA
  7. Friendship cuff,  BIBI BIJOUX
  8. Leather bracelet, SELECTED
  9. Green & gold bangle, FOREVER 21
  10. Heart ring, TOPSHOP
  11. Pearl ring, TOPSHOP
  12. Cascade Cool nail polish, ESSIE
  13. Go Overboard nail polish, ESSIE
  14. Playdate nail polish, ESSIE

Four down, one to go! Tomorrow I’ll have the perfect rooftop outfit for all of you city girls. So if you are a New York lover or a London (let’s hope you catch some sun instead of some cruel rain) Summer camper, be sure to check back tomorrow. I am gonna start early with my packing process, in an attempt of making things more organized and efficient (let’s see how that goes). If you want a glimpse of that and of my NYC trip, be sure to follow me on Instagram.

Sweet kisses…

Wear me out and dress me up: CROCHET SHORTS

Finally Friday, my sweet readers! It’s really hot out there, Summer has arrived and it definitely shows. What are your plans today? Are you gonna go out for some drinks with the girls? Dinner date with the boyfriend? Housewarming party at your best friends home? How about wearing some crochet shorts tonight? I have for you the third and last part form the WEAR ME OUT: CROCHET SHORTS series. And since it’s Friday and we usually wear of best clothes for the evening, I dressed up some burgundy crochet shorts. To dress up this pair of beauties, you can add a blazer, a cropped jacket, a silk blouse and some fabulous, sky-high heels. I went for a textured ensemble, but first, the crochet shorts selection.

TOP: Miss Selfridge / Romwe / River Island

MIDDLE: Valentino / Haute Hippie / Opening Ceremony

BOTTOM: River Island / River Island / River Island

All lace and crochet with a statement necklace to make it more interesting for today. The burgundy, bottle green and blush combo is definitely one of my favorites. A more is more look that manages to keep that delicate and sophisticated vibe.

  • Scarlett O’Hara nail polish, ESSIE

Sweet’n’Raw’s Sweet Dreams: THE DRESS

Hello, hello my sweet readers! It’s Wednesday and I’m counting the days to say: “Arrivederci Italia, ci vediamo dopo”. Don’t get me wrong, I love living in Italy (and Le Boyfriend will be joining me in Aztec soil two weeks after), every second of it. The truth is, after a while, I need my sister, sister quality time, I need to have one too many drinks with my brother, a couple of bottles of wine with the girls and above all, Mommy and Daddy. I’m just 10 days away from boarding that plane that’ll take me to Mexico Lindo and between deadlines, the blog and packing I’m starting to feel the pressure. But hey, bloggers should be like soldiers, they must never abandon their troops (ok, my lovely readers), so I am preparing lots of posts so you won’t go a day or two without news from me.

Well, after this long, long introduction, let’s talk about the thing that matters today. I’m back with the fourth post from our SWEET DREAMS series, one more in the next few days and then it’s a wrap for the pajama trend. It was Stella McCartney’s fault with her fab, shift dresses with lace inserts. Cami dresses, slip dresses and shift ones have been around for a while now. There’s a trick though, if it’s lacy and silky (almost like a nightgown) use it as a sundress, you really want to avoid the stiletto and heavy makeup combo (the bordello look is so 1500’s) . If it’s a pretty, pajama print shift, you can definitely style it more for a night out or also for day. Here’s a vast selection you can find online.

TOP: Topshop / Mango / Mango / L’Agence

MIDDLE: ALC / Stella McCartney / Topshop / Elizabeth & James

BOTTOM: Topshop / Edun / River Island / Miss Selfridge

I wanted to show you how Sweet’n’Raw does boho. My style is definitely more ladylike, that’s why I rarely do the bohemian thing. Anyway, to make it my own, I just throw in some pastels and lace. What do you think?

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

Two days till Friday, 10 days for Mexico City and then NYC. Sweet Summer, come to mamma!

Sweet kisses…

Wear me out and dress me down: THE CROCHET SHORTS

Summer is around the corner, we are just 10 days away from it’s official start. I promised you that for our Summer Sessions, I was going to give you new sections and new material to obsess over (acquiring new obsessions is my favorite pastime), and that’s exactly what I’m doing right now. Let me introduce “THE WEAR ME OUT” series to you. How many times have you gone shopping and end up buying something that’s going to go die inside your drawer? How many times have you said to yourself: “This would look amazing with that pair of shorts I didn’t buy.” This sections is all about preventing that shopping guilt and retail regret. In a series of three posts, I will be giving you one Summer essential and three ways to wear it: the dress me up, the dress me down and the barely dressed. For our first trio I chose one item that is definitely one you will be wearing over and over this season: THE CROCHET SHORTS. Crochet shorts are great for showing your legs and for putting together cute and feminine ensembles. This particular garment is so versatile, you can wear it with blazers, with t-shirts, with sweaters or just with a bikini top for the beach. Do you have your pair? If not, here’s a selection of shorts you can find online.

TOP: Miss Selfridge / Romwe / River Island

MIDDLE: Valentino / Haute Hippie / Opening Ceremony

BOTTOM: River Island / River Island / River Island

This is the dress me down part. The casual, laid-back, running errands, going to the park kind of look. For the styling, I wanted to contrast the romantic vibe from the shorts with an off-duty piece: the parka vest. For a special twist, a printed blouse really does the trick. For accessories, satchels and cross body bags fall right into place. If you want to elongate your pins, wedges or clogs are the way to go. If you are gonna walk long distances, a pair of tan woven flats fall right into place. Oh, don’t forget your sunnies! Ray-ban always adds that final and really cool touch to our outfits.

  1. Crochet shorts, RIVER ISLAND
  2. Floral top, RIVER ISLAND
  3. Parka vest, TRF ZARA
  4. Buckle wedges, ZARA
  5. Saddle bag, RALPH LAUREN
  6. Clubmaster sunnies, RAY-BAN
  7. Religious stretch bracelet, TOPSHOP
  8. Leopard cuff, ASPINAL OF LONDON
  9. Spike bracelet, TOPSHOP
  10. Peace bracelet, TOPSHOP
  11. Kiss ring, ASOS
  12. Touville nail polish, NARS

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

In the next few days, I’m gonna be showing you how Sweet’n’Raw dresses up crochet shorts and how we barely dress them. Keep checking back! Also we are halfway through with our Sweet Dreams series and in a few day, the Summer Getaways 2012 edition kicks off!

Sweet kisses…

Last day of May and you know what that means, right? Summer is finally hitting town! And while we get our gear ready to embrace the sun (and some color on our skin), I have for you my sixth piece for Chictopia’s blog, Everybody is Ugly. So far, being a Fashion News Editor for the site has been a great experience. Choosing my theme, preparing my illustrations and writing the article has become a weekly ritual for me (one that I really, really enjoy). But my week’s climax comes when it’s published, receiving all that positive feedback from you and welcoming new readers really makes me happy. For this week’s piece I wanted to do something that really represented my style and personality, of course I had to go with flowers and lace. In case you haven’t read it yet, here it is!

The Style Mash-Up: Three Ladylike Lace and Floral Print Outfits To Try

Fashion never ceases to amaze, it never stops changing, and it always manages to surprise. Long gone are the days when matching your belt to your purse and shoes is the golden rule and bold choices were always part of the “don’t” department. Nowadays, it’s all about fun and self-expression. It doesn’t matter if it’s dressy, messy or daring, as long as you can make it work. Trends are not to be followed in a text book kind of way and there are no step by step recipes for style. You take what you like, and you make it your own, which brings us to our main concept: The Mash-Up.

In music, a mash-up is the blend of one or more pre-recorded songs, in other words, a sound collage. Mash-ups have become really popular lately, hence the Rihanna and Adele composition overload that has taken over the Internet. And since fashion always keeps up with what’s current and never gets left behind, designers came up with the garment version of it. The fashion mash-up is all about mixing and matching different trends, textures, patterns, and prints.

Last September, the Spring 2012 runways were flooded with beautiful and complex ensembles (keeping the collage trend from Fall 2011 alive). Jonathan Saunders presented a collection in which colorful knits, paisley, graphic prints, and delicate appliqué swirls merged into pure fashion poetry. Signora Miuccia showcased her take on mash-ups in both Prada (crochet, cars, jewels and leather, need I say more) and Miu Miu (the A-line lace coats, the micro prints and the ornate cowboy boots still haunt my dreams) and last but not least, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana paired up to perfection their fresh produce prints to their always exquisite lace. They even threw in a pinch of crochet and jacquard.

Dressing up mash-up style is all about using our imagination to create a stylistic and beautiful chaos. Before trying out this trend, here are some tips to take into consideration:

The Garden Mash-up

1. Lose the fear, it’ll only make you match your purse to your shoes and your belt.
2. Have fun and don’t take it all too seriously. That’s the point of this game and you’ll get a better result.
3. It might not look good in your mind, but you’ll never know unless you try it on.
4. Detailed garments are mash-up material, bright solids are not (that’s color-blocking).
5. Mash-up is not a synonym for costume. Think feather skirt, not feather boa.
6. Use evening pieces to pump up day ones.
7. Use day pieces to down play evening ones.
8. When it comes to mash-ups, more is more. Layering, statement jewelry and metallic pieces can help you get the look.
9. Go for textured shoes to add another twist to your ensemble: mirror wedges, embellished pumps, woven sandals.
10. Mashed-up is not the same thing as messed-up. Yes Snooki, we’re talking to you.
11. Floral prints are a girl’s best friend, which brings us to the next argument…

Rise & shine my sweet readers! I’ve managed to have my post ready so you can enjoy it with your morning coffee! This is the third post from our Peplum Series. Since I’ve already given you the top and the skirt, it’s only fair I give you the dress today. Peplum dresses are the perfect cocktail or wedding companions (assuming no evening gown is required for the wedding), they are cute, dressy and appropriate. But since here at Sweet’n’Raw we like to do things the other way, I wanted to dress it down. Before we start with the look, I leave you with a selection of dresses that can be yours with just one click!

NEUTRAL: Topshop / Project D / Topshop

FLORAL: River Island / River Island / AX Paris

BRIGHT: Alice + Olivia / AX Paris / Miss Selfridge

Relaxed but dressy at the same time, this look is perfect for a sunny day. I’ve been wanting to use a rucksack for a long time and this outfit was just perfect for it. I like how the leopard touch gives it a special twist but also blends in perfectly with the rest of the items.

  • All Tied Up nail polish, ESSIE

Thoughts? We are almost done with the peplum, only one post left. If there is any trend you would like to see on the blog, let me know! I’m still deciding on the theme for our next series. Only one day till Friday, hang in there fellas! Off I go with the rest of my day!

Sweet kisses…
