SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The Free Spirit (daywear)

Good Wednesday my sweet readers! I just came back from the magical city of San Miguel de Allende, México. It was a fun and relaxing weekend and now I am back to reality before my last Summer escape, the beach. As promised, this is the last post form our SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012 (daywear) round. I’ve already given you the City Blonde, the Hopeless Romantic, the Party Princess and the Jet-set Junkie. Who am I missing? The Free Spirit! So if you are heading out to chill on a deserted beach or to a Mexican town, this is the post for you. It would’ve also been useful for all of you, Lollapalooza junkies, but sadly, that was this weekend. So if you are heading out to a destination were sandals, ponchos and headbands are just the thing to wear, keep on reading baby, keep on reading.

  • Flowy and lightweight blouses are just the thing to pull off that boho vibe you need.
  • Denim cut-offs, printed or washed up, are the bohemian’s best friend.
  • Do leave your natural waves loose and add a headband for an interesting twist.
  • Always wear shoulder bags, messengers or hobos when in a Free Spirit destination (fringes are optional but always a classic).
  • Layer different necklaces together. The different the length, the cooler the ensemble.
  • Ring packs are useful when pulling off a killer finger candy.
  • To change things up a bit, add a fun and sassy touch with bubblegum pink nails.

Rise & shine, my sweet readers! Monday, Monday, bloody Monday. A new week is just starting and we are halfway through with our Summer Getaways, beachwear round. Sweet’n'Raw’s Sweet Dreams: THE DRESS

Hello, hello my sweet readers! It’s Wednesday and I’m counting the days to say: “Arrivederci Italia, ci vediamo dopo”. Don’t get me wrong, I love living in Italy (and Le Boyfriend will be joining me in Aztec soil two weeks after), every second of it. The truth is, after a while, I need my sister, sister quality time, I need to have one too many drinks with my brother, a couple of bottles of wine with the girls and above all, Mommy and Daddy. I’m just 10 days away from boarding that plane that’ll take me to Mexico Lindo and between deadlines, the blog and packing I’m starting to feel the pressure. But hey, bloggers should be like soldiers, they must never abandon their troops (ok, my lovely readers), so I am preparing lots of posts so you won’t go a day or two without news from me.

Well, after this long, long introduction, let’s talk about the thing that matters today. I’m back with the fourth post from our SWEET DREAMS series, one more in the next few days and then it’s a wrap for the pajama trend. It was Stella McCartney’s fault with her fab, shift dresses with lace inserts. Cami dresses, slip dresses and shift ones have been around for a while now. There’s a trick though, if it’s lacy and silky (almost like a nightgown) use it as a sundress, you really want to avoid the stiletto and heavy makeup combo (the bordello look is so 1500′s) . If it’s a pretty, pajama print shift, you can definitely style it more for a night out or also for day. Here’s a vast selection you can find online.

Sweet’n'Raw’s NEON NATION: THE JACKET

SPRING LEATHER: THE JACKET

This week is only starting and what better way to kick it off than with a new trend series. Leather is not only for Fall and Winter anymore, you can have lots of fun styling it with this season’s trendiest and loveliest garments. Today we are going to concentrate on the one piece that you absolutely have to have inside your closet: the leather jacket. Leather jackets are the most resourceful ally for a girl, whether you throw it over some cut-offs and a tank or over a girly, girly dress, it will always look great. WANNA POLKA? The Shorts

First Friday of the year my sweet readers! Now that almost everyone is back from vacations (I’m enjoying my last three days of sun before heading back to Milan’s cold and harsh winter next week), is time to get back to our polka thing. Remember the series (if you don’t click HERE, HERE, and HERE to read them)? This lovely dots really made it on the catwalk this season, that is why they should already be inside our wardrobes. The garment we will be focusing on today is a personal favorite, I love shorts like Bubba  loved shrimp in Forest Gump. So if you lov’em as much as I do, get ready to get them spotted!

THE LOOK OF THE DAY

I’ve been known to be a sucker for smart shorts, this time I decided to go with a more casual and tight alternative. This black and white ones are from one of my favorite online shops, the always fab, Nasty Gal. Here at Sweet’n'Raw we always like to to do the whole dressy, dressy thing. For this ensemble I decided to go with a more casual vibe. I paired the shorts with a comfy, printed sweatshirt from ASOS. To battle the infamous cold, a leather bomber, also from ASOS. Since last season, bombers have come back to become musts in every girl’s closet. Since bare legs are definitely not an option, a pair of cute tights are in order. We got the spotted shorts, why not add a bit more to this equation? This lovely polka dot ones are from Modcloth. For the shoes, Steve Madden makes the most comfortable platform booties ever, add lace and tassel and you have the perfect combo.

For the bag, there’s nothing more street chic than Balenciaga. I chose the classic, light grey CITY. To add some cuteness factor and protect your ears from freezing out in the cold, a cable knit beanie, also in gray. Last but not least, one of Erin Wasson’s belted bracelets (psst, psst, it’s on sale on ASOS) and the lovely Illamasqua‘s Loella for a bit of color.

Style Diaries: Welcome to La la land

Hello my sweet, sweet readers! I’m back posting and stronger than ever! Remember I told you about my American holiday? I spent one week in the wonderful city of Los Angeles, California and another week in the sinful Las Vegas, Nevada. First holiday with the boyfriend and also his first time visiting the US. There was a lot of sightseeing, lots of adventures, party nights, shopping and more. Heading out to LA was absolutely amazing! There is something about that city, the people, their lifestyles, it’s fabulous! So, I have prepared for you today some of the looks I put together for my lovely vacation. I hope you like them!

LOOK 1: Take me out to the ball game!

I’m a born yankee fan, I have been all my life. The kind of fan that cries when stepping into Yankee stadium. So anytime I find myself in a city where that has a baseball stadium, I am there. When I found out Dodgers were playing against Phillies, that was it. I bought my tickets two months in advance and got a pretty good deal for some great seats! For the game I wanted to look comfortable but chic. I am not a sneaker gal, I have never been. But in the name of baseball, everything is possible. I chose a vintage t-shirt from the Dodgers, v-neck and a little washed out. I found it at Urban Outfitters. I paired it with some cut-offs in pastel pink. I tucked the tee in a bit to flatter my waist. Striped canvas trainers in white and blue. And since the game starts when the sun is still out, it is important for you to wear sunscreen and put on a pair of sunglasses, my choice: aviators. This ones are from AX.

For accessories, a simple backpack like this one from ASOS and a cute watch in pink, this one from Glam Rock in ceramic is to die for! For beauty, lip gloss with SPF, Clinique’s Long Last Glosswear in Bamboo Pink. Play ball!

LOOK 2: Big City Lights

There’s nothing I enjoy more than drinks after dinner! If LA has one thing to offer is its nightlife. But what I loved the most was to discover that our hotel, The Standard, had a rooftop pool that turned into a bar at night. So sipping Mojitos and Vodka Tonics while gazing at the goregous view of Downtown LA became one of our favorite activities. Here’s what I wore one night: A silk olive tank from Zara tucked inside my high waisted mini in strawberry, also from Zara (I also have it in green and floral). I cinched it with a braided belt in Salmon from H&M. I am obsessed with this combination, strawberry-salmon-olive, the perfect trifecta. For shoes, I wore a pair of my favorite babies, Steve Madden’s Karmenaf, floral pumps in white.

For accessories, an olive clutch with fringes, cute, cute as a button. For jewelry, a belted bracelet form Marc by Marc Jacobs, also in strawberry. Yeah I know, call me Miss Match. A white ring, this is from Disney Couture (I love their line).  For the final touch, Essie’s Need a Vacation to add on more sweetness to it!

LOOK 3: Sky High Sushi Dinner

The day after a night out in town partying, the right thing to do is a cute dinner in a nice restaurant and then some room service Cheescake. One night we went to Takami Restaurant, on the 21st floor of a building located in Downtown LA. The view is stunning and the food is to die for! Rock shrimp, tuna tartare, Spicy Tuna and more… We ordered like 7 or 8 plates. For this night, I went for a more casual look. A pantsuit from Zara. I got it on sale and when I tried it on I wasn’t that sure it was going to flatter my figure. Well, it did! To play with the styling a bit, I added a navy blue belt with a golden buckle (same color of the garment). For shoes, my tan t-strap platform sandals. This ones are from ASOS. This shoe style is so resourceful! I need to buy another pair, they are wearing out on me!

For accessories, a green envelope clutch (this one is from ASOS) and a chain, gold bangle. For the nails, I got this nail polish at Walgreen’s. It was on sale and it is the cutest shade of lilac, from Revlon, Lilac Pastelle.

IN YOUR CLOSET: Heels, part 2

If you have been checking in, you have probably realized I haven’t posted anything in the past days. I was in a far away land, with no internet connection. But I am back, this time bringing you the second part of what to me are other must-have styles for the current season. After dissecting (more than once) L’Officiel, Elle Collections and Vogue Collections, magazines that cost 25 euros, very well spent (my boyfriend is still shocked that I am willing to spend this amount on paper), I came to the conclusion these were the most showcased styles on the Milan, Paris, NY and London runways.

FLOWERS IN THE WINDOW

Obession, that’s how I feel now and how I will feel about flowers in fashion, ALWAYS. Also, and it suits me just fine, flowers are all over the season. Now that the cold winter is over, now that the sun is burning our legs while trying to wear a pair of jeans, begging for shorts, like the dessert misses the rain (ha!), flowers are showcasing themselves. Just look around, even the tiniest plant is in fashion, with flowers all around. Obviously, if they look good by themselves, they are going to look even better parading on our feet.

You are probably tired of me speaking about color blocking and bright hues. But I have to, it’s the strongest trend of the season. Jil Sander, Gucci, Dior, you should be familiar with this by now. Indulge in it, enjoy it, play with it like you did when you were little with a box of crayons. This is the time to exploit it. A coulpe of months from now, when the season is over, you shall not have any regrets from when you bought that pair of canary platforms, or those hot pink wedges. Fashion it’s all about getting spotted, and noticed. So this trend is the perfect excuse to go mad and wild with color!

No, this is not a conventional strappy sandal. Think of it as a piece of leather with holes cut in it. Made in a particular way so the pieces of skin are shown in a hide-and-seek kind of way. It’s like a puzzle, where the remaining pieces are parts of your feet. Sexy peek-a-boo, that’s what I like to call it. Satin, leather, even laser cut, find the pair that goes the most with your ways.

LACE & LEATHER

Va va boom! Nothing says sexy like a piece of lace. Lace can often be defined as a banner for women, for femeninity. You wear a lace dress, you will definitely get heads turning. It’s the fabric, with a little bit of see-thorugh, that gets that effect. So, like a recipe, sheer lace, with some leather and a sky-high heel that elongates the leg, you have got a winner. Wether you choose a bootie, or a peeptoe, even a pump, you can never go wrong. Ladylike but always sexy, Lace is a timeless classic, that when transformed into heels, Ladies and Gentleman, we’ve got a winner.

WITHOUT THE PRETTY PINK RIBBON

Oh the ribbon! Oh the bow! And on shoes? Oh my lord! Creating the illusion your feet have been wrapped in a perfectly chic gift confection, this type of shoe not only embellishes your feet, but your ankles seem to be lost in the bow paradise. The ankle bracelet doesn’t seem enough. The lace ups go feeble. The ribbon front tie is the way to go. Found mostly in a platform or wedge, this style is must-have for the season. So wrap it up!
