The Goodbye Summer/Hello Fall Mash-up: Pastels and Oxblood

Rise & shine, my sweet readers! Summer is almost over and we have to start focusing all of our attentions on Fall (stocking for it, that is). Fashion Week is a month away and the coming season as well, that’s why our wardrobes must be armed and ready. As I told you on my last post (click HERE to read it), I wanted to mix up the best trends from this season with the new ones to bid farewell to Summer and welcome Fall. I wanted to start with a personal favorite from S/S 2012, pastels and probably the strongest color trend from A/W 2012, oxblood. Mixing them both is unexpected and fabulous: drama vs. sugar! So without further ado, let’s start!

  • THE TREND: Pastel colors
  • Season: Spring 2012
  • As seen in: Meadham Kirchhoff (pictured), Louis Vuitton, Jonathan Saunders, Versace, Versus
  • Key wardrobe pieces: mint skinny jeans and a powder pink silk button-down

Pastel was the king of all trends this season, not only did almost every designer used it on the catwalk, but retailers candy-coated their shops from head to toe. It’s fun, it’s pretty and guess what? Not always sugary, depends of the treatment you give it and on the pairings you make. We won’t have to bid farewell to this trend (I am positive that we’ll be seeing a lot of it next season), but we have to make way for the Fall King of trends and sadly powdery shades are not it.

The selection: Necklace, ZARA / Blouse, H&M / Jeans, RAG & BONE / Dress, RIVER ISLAND / Wedges, BOOHOO / Flats, ASOS / Clutch, DVF / Cropped shirt, TOPSHOP

Welcoming new trends and discovering them is my favorite part of a new season and happy I was to discover this bloody and sexy color as the strongest trend when it comes to shades. Oxblood was among the most used colors on the February catwalks, from the Isabel Marant’s chic western and Diane Von Furstenberg’s sexy woman (pictured) to Alexander Wang’s shiny coats. If you ask me, this is the new black (and I am a black hater, but this, this I’m ready to embrace).

  • THE TREND: Oxblood
  • Season: Fall 2012
  • As seen in: DVF, Isabel Marant, Alexander Wang, Rodarte, Acne, Peter Som
  • Key pieces: A peplum top, skinny jeans, slippers, a jumper

The selection: Dress, RIVER ISLAND / Peplum top, TOPSHOP / Jumper, THE ROW / Sunnies, STELLA McCARTNEY / Oxfords, VALENTINO / Skirt, T by ALEXANDER WANG / Skinny jeans, MARC by MARC JACOBS

OXBLOOD + PASTELS LOOK

A look that can work perfectly for work, for everyday life or even happy hour. The clash of the feminine sweater with the wild, wax pants make the whole thing more interesting. The shoes, you might hate them at first, but never underestimate the power of the off-white pump until you try it!

  • Powder pink sweater, CARVEN
  • Double collar shirt, ASOS
  • Wax oxblood pants, ZARA
  • Off-white pumps, ASOS

ACCESSORIES:

BEAUTY

  • Stylenomics nail polish, ESSIE

That’s it for the day! Wishing you a perfect week,

Sweet kisses…

The Goodbye Summer / Hello Fall Mash-up

Cover: Prada Spring 2012 bodysuit, Marc Jacobs Fall 2012 hat

Hello, hello my sweet readers! It’s finally Friday and I’m happily stranded on my little piece of paradise, commonly known as Acapulco. Days at the beach are always good for the spirit, the body and the mind (especially when you need to get that creativity flowing). Anyway, back to what concerns us today, fashion. Since we are done with our Summer Getaways series and this season is coming to an end, I decided to bid farewell to S/S 2012 and welcome A/W 2012 at the same time, mixing them up and pairing them up. Oh yes, this series shall be baptized as the Goodbye Summer / Hello Spring mash-up. You might be wondering how I’m gonna handle and juggle them both, well let me explain. I picked six of my favorite trends from Spring 2012 (the ones that almost left me and you almost bankrupt, damn you Zara!) and six of my favorite ones from the coming season, Fall 2012. Now that I have my teams formed, I’m going to make the pairings. For each Spring trend, a Fall one. One look, two trends (one S/S and one F/W). Hey, anything to make this transition easier. Let’s start with my Summer picks:

Last Spring (2011 that is) I said: “This is my favorite season ever, and I won’t like another one as much as I liked this one”. I was wrong. On September 2011, I fell in love (I think the runway candy coating had a lot to do with it) and yes, this was my favorite season ever and we’ll see if on September I’ll bite my tongue again (I most likely will). From the pastels, to the underwater world, to the pajama land, each and every one of the trends were to die for. Here are my favorite six:

PASTEL COLORS: Almost every runway show of the season did it: Louis Vuitton, Prada (pictured), Jonathan Saunders, Meadham Kirchhoff

SCARF PRINT: D&G (pictured) said goodbye to the world with this spectacular, foulard-inspired show

NEON: From dresses, to jeans, to shoes and box clutches, neon was everywhere this season. Peter Som (pictured) and Nanette Lepore were among the designers who showcased the trend.

THE PEPLUM: Need I say more? Jason Wu’s (pictured) pink number was among the most coveted looks of the season.

TANGERINE: It was officially named the color of the season. This sassy look was spotted on the Nanette Lepore catwalk (pictured).

PAJAMAS: Stella McCartney’s prints and shapes made her one of the top collections of the season (along with Jonathan Saunders, Peter Pilotto and Proenza Schouler). Is that reason enough to start wearing pajamas? I’d say so.

I had always been a sucker for Spring and a Fall hater, up until the moment designers started using vivid colors and prints for the “darker” season. Seeing those lively prints, shiny textures and lightweight fabrics on the Fall runways, make me wish for it as much as I yearly wish for Spring. Here are my six favorite trends from Fall 2012:

BAROQUE: If more is more, then I’m absolutely in. Opulence ruled the catwalks for the coming season and no one does that better than my favorite Italian duo, Dolce Gabbana (pictured).

OXBLOOD: Remember how Tangerine Tango was the color of the season. Well Oxblood is the new Tangerine Tango. This seductive shade was everywhere, from DVF and Alexander Wang, to Rodarte (pictured) and Haider Ackermann.

FLORAL PRINT: Yep, let’s face it, whether is Spring or Fall, whether it rains or snows, flowers will always be on the trendy side. Erdem (pictured) is quickly becoming the floral master.

GOLDEN GIRL: More is more and the shinier the better. That’s my motto in life. This season brace yourself for those metallic jeans and those heavy and shiny dresses. One of Prabal Gurung’s (pictured) final numbers is proof of that.

LINGERIE: A trend that just keeps coming back and that gets constantly reinvented. A constant in Nina Ricci’s (pictured) Peter Copping’s collections.

WHITE AS SNOW: Absence of black! Absence of black! Another motto of mine. Imagine how thrilled I am to know that I’m gonna be going for white coats instead of dark ones this season. J. Mendel (pictured) shows us how to look fabulously chic and effortlessly perfect with this white and wintery look.

Now that you’ve seen my picks, you can help me do the pairings. Which Spring and Fall trends would you like to see together?

Friday, I wanna be drunk!

Sweet kisses…

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The Jet-set Junkie (evening)

Good Thursday, my sweet readers. The weekend is just around the corner and as days keep passing by, Summer’s end is near. This is the last post from our Summer Getaways series, after almost two months of destination and occasion-inspired ensembles. We are closing up with our Jet-set junkie. So if you are still on the chic French coast, if Porto Cervo is on the menu today, if you are happily stranded on an island of the Caribbean and you need the perfect look to party, you’ve come to the right place. As you probably have noticed by now, I rarely use black for my compositions but when I saw the shoes, it was love at first sight. Along came the playsuit and it was a match made in heaven. Let’s see the complete look:

  • Structured playsuits give out both, classy and sexy vibes.
  • If the romper has a plunging neckline and no embellishments or details, add a statement necklace (one that looks like part of the whole thing, not the star of it).
  • Quilted shoulder bags are the perfect complement for this type of outfit.
  • For the nails, add some berry nail polish for a sassy twist. This one is form Essie’s Fall 2012 collection and I think it’s a must-have for the coming season.
  • Pull your hair into a side ponytail to make it clean and primp.

WHAT PEARL WOULD WEAR

It’s a wrap everyone! From tomorrow on, we’ll be tackling the new season and bidding farewell to the current one. Also, the official countdown for Fashion Week has just begun, so brace yourselves for a September packed with new trends and lots of fashion!

Sweet kisses…

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The City Blonde (evening)

Greetings from the beautiful Acapulco Bay, the last of my Summer destinations. I am ready to soak up the sun and finally get rid of this white and pasty Winter skin (yes, I haven’t had the chance to do some proper sunbathing). Anyway, back to what concerns us today, the Summer Getaways post. This is the fourth one from the evening round, we only have one more to go and it will be officially over. This time I bring you the City Blonde. So if you are in NYC and you are ready to party, if the London club scene awaits, if it dinner and then drinks in Madrid, here’s what you could be rocking tonight…

  • Snakeskin has gone from trend to constant, we always get to see this beauty on the runway. With a pair of skin-tight, python print jeans, you’ll seriously get the attention you deserve.
  • To tone down the power of the jeans, how about a peplum (it doesn’t get girlier than a peplum)
  • Some people like to pair snake print wit bold colors, I like to do quite the opposite. Play with the same shades as the jeans. As you can see, the result is all-neutral.
  • Toe caps were big this season, keep on rocking them any chance you get
  • For your nails, if you are lucky enough to find the impossible to find GRIS DECO from YSL, it will be the perfect final touch for the look. If not, any pastel gray will do.

Time flies by and Summer does too. In about one more post, I will start preparing our minds and closets for Fall.

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The Free Spirit (evening)

Good Monday, my sweet readers! As I am getting ready for my last vacation destination (Acapulco Bay, I’m coming), I’m giving you the fourth post from our Summer Getaways 2012 series, Evening round. I’m gonna make this quick since I have a plane to catch! I’ve told you before about our lovely Free Spirit, Flora. She’s one who loves to chill, who loves exploring unknown destinations, who loves having a good time by the beach, with some friends and some beer. So, if you are the kind of girl who enjoys bonfire nights, if small bars with a twist are your scene, if you are heading out to an unknown paradise and need the perfect dinner ensemble, here’s what I’m offering you:

  • Kimonos have been on the trend spotlight for a while now. The more prints they have, the better they look. And if you dig that boho vibe, it’s a must inside your closet.
  • For bohemian destinations, white, crisp dresses work to perfection. Choose them in different materials: linen, crochet, silk (possibilities are endless)
  • Multi-strapping is a must for the shoes. Braided heels, wedges or flats, I can guarantee you’ll wear them out.
  • Shoulder mini bags are a girl’s best friend when it comes to going out. Rebecca Minkoff has quality and a good price.
  • Go crazy with some earthy arm candy.

SUMMER GETWAYS 2012: The Party Princess (evening)

Finally Friday, my sweet readers! And Friday definitely calls for the perfect party outfit! That’s why today I wanted to give you a club ready ensemble, from the one and only Party Princess, our dear Jaime. This is the second post from the Summer Getaways series, evening round. So if you are at the gate, waiting for your Vegas flight while you are reading this, if Miami is what’s on the menu this weekend, if you intend to party till you drop, then you’ll need a killer look to get some serious heads turning your way. Colorful, shiny, bright and sexy, that’s all you need! Here’s what I came up with:

  • Sequin shorts are definitely a party girl’s best ally. Whether you go colored, silver or with embroidered details, it’s the best choice.
  • If you have a larger bottom, look for shorts with more coverage. Nude cheeks hanging out in the open are for Rap guys girlfriends.
  • I like to pair detailed garments with simple ones, to give them the attention they deserve. Go with a basic, sleeveless top. Avoid the necklace, you want all the attention on your legs and cheeks (lower cheeks).
  • There was a time when matching your purse to your shoes was a rule, my newest obsession is matching my purse to my top.
  • For jewelery, golden arm candy and a thin ring
  • For your nails, a sweet shade of pink to keep on with the colorful vibe

WHAT JAIME IS WEARING

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

There you go! Now you are ready to party, Vegas style!

Happy Friday! Sweet kisses…

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The Hopeless Romantic (evening)

And so the end is near, we are entering the Evening round on our Summer Getaways series and 5 posts away from wrapping it all up. To kick this round off, the Hopeless Romantic. As I told you before, this Sweet’n’Raw character is completely inspired by me, my style and my likes (just take a look at today’s outfit). So if you are packing your suitcase for one last Summer escape and you are heading out to the land of wine and romance, if you need the perfect ensemble for a candelit dinner followed by drinks with a view, if Napa Valley is that final destination, if a midnight stroll in Paris is what you’ll be doing in the next few days, then this look is just for you!

  • Pulling off a monochromatic look with a detailed top is more fun and the result is even prettier.
  • Nothing says romance more than a lady in blush
  • Belts are a girl’s best friend when it comes to enhancing the waist
  • Add a touch of color with the shoes. Teal and blush are a match made in heaven
  • Add more sparkle with statement bracelets (just the right amount to make everything fall into place)
  • Dark, berry nails will give the whole ensemble a dramatic twist

WHAT SOPHIE IS WEARING

That’s a wrap for today! Let me remind you, Sweet’n’Raw just joined Tumblr. It’s not a blog, it’s just a visual summary of what goes on here and on the FB fan page. If you wish to follow and recieve my updates, click HERE.

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The Free Spirit (daywear)

Good Wednesday my sweet readers! I just came back from the magical city of San Miguel de Allende, México. It was a fun and relaxing weekend and now I am back to reality before my last Summer escape, the beach. As promised, this is the last post form our SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012 (daywear) round. I’ve already given you the City Blonde, the Hopeless Romantic, the Party Princess and the Jet-set Junkie. Who am I missing? The Free Spirit! So if you are heading out to chill on a deserted beach or to a Mexican town, this is the post for you. It would’ve also been useful for all of you, Lollapalooza junkies, but sadly, that was this weekend. So if you are heading out to a destination were sandals, ponchos and headbands are just the thing to wear, keep on reading baby, keep on reading.

  • Flowy and lightweight blouses are just the thing to pull off that boho vibe you need.
  • Denim cut-offs, printed or washed up, are the bohemian’s best friend.
  • Do leave your natural waves loose and add a headband for an interesting twist.
  • Always wear shoulder bags, messengers or hobos when in a Free Spirit destination (fringes are optional but always a classic).
  • Layer different necklaces together. The different the length, the cooler the ensemble.
  • Ring packs are useful when pulling off a killer finger candy.
  • To change things up a bit, add a fun and sassy touch with bubblegum pink nails.

WHAT FLORA IS WEARING

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

There you go! Last from daywear, ready for evening wear? I sure am! The Hopeless Romantic will be armed and ready for dinner on tomorrow’s post!

Sweet kisses…

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The City Blonde (daywear)

Good morning, my sweet readers! Getting ready for the weekend to begin? Sure hope so! Since we are in the middle of Summer and just in time to escape to a sunny destination, the Summer Getaways series might be just what you need. Remember, we are in the middle of our Daywear round (I already gave you beachwear and evening is coming right after this) and this time it’s the City Blonde’s turn. If you want to find more about Anita, click HERE and HERE. So if you, like this city lover, are planning to spend what’s left of your Summer on a New York roof top pool, shopping on 5th, brunching on Sundays or sightseeing around London, you’ll need the perfect ensemble for it. Here’s what I came up with:

  • Silk, button-down shirts are great Summer-in-the-city. A white one is a must-have and a must-pack.
  • Smart shorts (like this leopard ones) are just the thing to pair up with the shirts. You’ll look summery but always clean and dressed up.
  • Large leather handbags make the correct statement in an asphalt jungle. Phillip Lim’s Pashli is the best investment one can make.
  • Wedges will make your legs longer and they are also easier to walk with.
  • Always pack a pair of flats inside the tote, wishing you’d brought them with you is the worst feeling on Earth.
  • Burgundy nails are the perfect match for leopard and tan

WHAT ANITA IS WEARING

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

Just one more Daywear post and we are done! What do you think of today’s look. Are you a City Blonde gal? If you are more of a Free Spirit, check back tomorrow!

Sweet kisses…

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The Hopeless Romantic (daywear)

Another day, another post, my sweet readers! Summer is halfway through and so is our Daywear round: two more to go and then we are off to evening wear. This is definitely one of my all-time favorite looks, after all, the Sophie character is all about me. The hopeless romantic is definitely a girl who enjoys late night strolls after a candlelit dinner and a bottle of wine (yeah, it may sound like a cliche, but it’s the best cliche ever). The Hopeless Romantic loves small town destinations, lovely views, quiet resorts in the middle of the country and Paris, Paris is always good for romance (if you can escape those tourist traps, and you totally can). So if you are planning a Summer getaways filled with love, books, wine, breathtaking sights and relaxation, this is the perfect outfit if you want to wander around town and get lost in it, followed by a lovely lunch in a terrace and of course, some wine (yeah, wine is really my thing). Let’s start with today’s ensemble:

  • Chiffon blouses are cute, dressy, flattering and light. Also, a girl in floral print will always get some heads turning. Pack a bunch of blouses and shirts, you’ll thank me later.
  • Ivory on Ivory is definitely a winning combo (I’m really into the matchy, matchy trend right now). The flowers just add that cute factor that screams romance.
  • To clash with the flowers, striped sandals are the way to go.
  • For more contrast, polka dots will do the trick
  • If the sun is really hitting hard, you can add a cute, straw hat
  • If you are gonna walk long distances, pack your flats or switch to wedges
  • Last but not least, put together a killer and eclectic arm candy and top it off with a floral ring.

WHAT SOPHIE IS WEARING

Check out all the details on today’s look on FASHIOLISTA

That’s it for the day! Hope you like it and you have this in mind when packing for your romantic escape! Enjoy what’s left of this Summer!

Sweet kisses…
